    Hey Tim and Jenn! Thanks for another awesome vid! Jenn- curls will hold better when your hair hasn't been washed for like a day or two- if you're like me and this is just too much (I like to wash my hair everyday albeit bad for natural oils) then apply lots of mousse when wet, let it dry, back comb it to add texture and then hairspray. After this, curl it, then pin your curls against your head and hair spray again. Leave time for the curls to set, then un-pin and voila! Long lasting curls :)

    Hi Jenn! If you want tighter curls, you should try either using a wand or wrapping your hair around your curling iron as if it was a wand. You could also try spraying a small amount of hairspray on the piece you're curling before you curl it. Those always seem to work for me! (:

    Hey Jen,
    I seen the comments where people are suggesting the curling wand. There really isn't a difference between the curling wand and a curling iron except some wands are bigger starting from the top and the size tapers down at the point. Makes it look more like a natural curl. I guess it is just the convenience of not having to deal with the clamp. But if you do want to try out an inexpensive curling wand, I use the conair infinity curling wand. My hair wont hold a curl with anything else unless i use this wand. Its also only like 20 bucks at Walmart. My hair will still have curls after 2 days.

    Hi, Curling irons don't work as well as hot curlers. Dry your hair (and curls stay better in hair that isn't freshly washed...) and put in some hair gel or even mousse (yea, old school...). Don't get it too wet, but put some in there. Then, roll your hair in hot curlers and spray it with hair spray. Then wait long enough for the curlers to really cool off. Uncurl and go! You can brush them out and put a little hair spray on your hair or run fingers through the curls for a different effect. Or, you can just throw your hair back and forth until the curls loosen up. Good luck!

    If I use the curling iron clamp in any way on my hair it never holds the curl, but if I just wrap it around the curling iron, it always works. I also find that my hair holds curls better when its a little dirty.

    The way that I curl my hair is i take a regular curling iron, but i don't use the clasp at all!! I wrap my hair around the iron, and when it is warm enough I slide it off onto my fingers. I then pin it with a bobby pin against my head. I find it when you pin all your curls and take them all out after they cool they last a really long time. Without hairspray they will stay tight for 12 hrs, and sometimes into 24 hours! Hope that helps a little ;D

    You need a curling wand! I tried using straighteners/curling irons for years but my curling wand is the only thing that leaves me with curls for 2 days!!! (And I have long hair!!!!)

      ***** But what is the difference between a wand and a curling iron with out the clip?

    • @olivia94tennis
      @olivia94tennis 9 років тому

      TheTimTracker Hmmm, not too sure? I guess the iron with the clip might do the same thing? I'm not really sure! I just know that the wand is tapered in size slightly, so it is thicker at the base and goes slightly thinner at the point- the whole of the wand is hot (usually ceramic like straighteners) and you just wrap your piece of hair around it, leave for a few seconds and it curls! I could never use a curling iron but the wand is so much easier! I will tweet you a pic...

    Try putting your hair into a few small buns and letting them dry. That's how I do my hair a lot of the time, and it gives beautiful curls to my hair. Just twist the hair, curl it around it's self and secure with bobby pins or a hair tie.

    I don't know if anyone suggested this yet but I also have the same problem where my hair refuses to hold a curl I've tried everything but I finally found something that works. I actually curl my hair with my straightener and I have never gone back to a curling iron. It holds the ENTIRE day. I made one of my friends try it one day and it works just as well for her also. Let me know if you have a question about how it works!

      In my opinion, it provides better curls because wands usually taper off at the top and makes the shape so much better and it's faster for me because you quickly wrap your hair around and BOOM! awesome curls are the result. They're not that expensive, try for yourself and maybe you'll see what im talking about! :)

  • @boydabus
    @boydabus 9 років тому

    Jenn your too cute! Try taking small horizontal sections (about an inch) and work from the bottom of your head and go up. It does take more time but you will have more curls to support other curled hair. Use a light hairspray too before curling. At the end, after its cooled, comb your hair through, then go back through and twist the curls around your fingers. It will define them but give it a soft finish. Don't forget to hairspray the final look. I have straight slippery hair like yours that will NEVER hold a curl! I know your pain! Your hair probably kinks in an elastic and stays because of moisture either in the hair or environment. It's giving you a "wet set" effect! Maybe even try a wet roller set and let it air dry or blow dry it and see if that type of curl works better for you in the Florida climate! Ps you guys are awesome! Thanks for sharing your lives! I enjoy your videos so much!! :)

    For your hair you can try the bobby pin/clip method. Its for people who can't hold a curl. Basically what you do is after you curl your hair release it into your hand for about 5 seconds then roll the curl around your fingers which ever way the curl is going then pin it together and leave it until it is fully cool. You should check out Kayley Melissa's channel she does great hair tutorials and can explain it better then I just did! haha Good Luck! (:

Views are the best in the UK (weather... not so much, probably best to come in summer ;) and people are always really friendly. Scottish highlands are spectacular, and our loch's are awesome during a sunset.

    Jen I have some tips for your hair! Its better to curl your hair on dirty hair, freshly clean hair doesn't have the oils to help keep those curls in tact. I don't like very dirty hair, so I was it the day before I curl it, and let it dry naturally. Let it have a little texture in it, if you blow dry it you will be using heat to tell it how to act, and it will be harder to keep that curl. Try a pomade that you put in your hair before you curl it instead of spraying it after. Make sure to let the curl COMPLETELY cool in a tight ringlet shape before dropping it, it needs to cool in the shape so it doesn't fall as much later. You could also pin the curls to your head to let cool as you curl the rest. Once all the curls are done you can take your hands and gently tousle them to loosen them to your preference, If you want to then use some hairspray, use some light non aerosol kind to give a little extra hold without making it too crunchy. My last tip has helped me a bunch, i got a clipless curling wand. It really made a huge difference in my hair and how long it took to curl my hair. I got a $25 Bed Head curling wand on amazon (Curlipops). They are on sale right now, and they have different shapes for different hair curling styles! Watch the little videos in the product images, it shows you what the style is supposed to look like! Good luck!

    1. STOP CURLING CLEAN HAIR!!! 2nd day hair holds heated curls better. Non-heat (head band curls, soft rollers, etc.) holds better to freshly washed product-ed hair, ie gel or mousse.
    2. Invest in a clipless curler or an auto curler like the conair tulip for more natural looking consistent curls whether you're leftie or rightie.
    3. Damaged hair like ours (ice blonde) needs a lot of love so use an argan or grapeseed oil after freshly washing and try not to shampoo more than twice a week, 3 times if you've been working out or swimming but try not to exceed that.
    4. Dry your hair in a 100% cotton t-shirt over night, you'll have less frizz/fly-a-ways and in combo with an above oil you'll have celeb status shine and natural long hold bouncy waves!

    Hot rollers! I have fine, thin hair that typically won't hold a curl for the life of me. A few years back (when I also had longer hair) I was in a play, HARVEY, which is set in the 40's and I had to have my hair styled in curls. I told the lady responsible for my hair that it NEVER held a curl and that I would probably have to wear a styled wig she scoffed and told me to have faith. She told me to go out and buy Revlon's travel rollers (which are less than $20 at Target) and to bring them in next rehearsal. I did and I would never use anything else to curl my hair. Do Heat protectant/Serum, then some mousse all over, comb through and then dry your hair. Brush your hair and then start sectioning and putting in the rollers, spritz with a very modest amount of a medium/light hold spray. The rollers don't get as hot as a curling iron, so they take a little longer, but you leave them in until they are completely cool - maybe 15 minutes. Roll them out gently (DON'T PULL, it'll ruin the curl and make it fall) and once they've been removed gently comb through the curls with your fingers and style whatever way you'd like. Once your hair is how you want it spray quickly one more time with hair spray and voila! Curls that last longer than 10 mins.... I was amazed! Hopefully it works for you too if you try it! You have much thicker hair than I do

But I once tried curling my hair by just wrapping a strand around the barrel without clamping it and somehow it worked and my hair lasts all day! After you brush and sleep on the curls they will fall into gorgeous waves. I also don't spray it with anything, the wetness will make curls fall faster. Hope this helps!

    I use a ceramic curling wand and I believe the brand is Helen of Troy and it works extremely well. I find that curling wands make the hair stay longer.

    Hey Jenn,try curling your hair without washing it, although it might sound gross, you shouldn't actually wash your hair everyday and with day-old hair it usually holds the curls for longer! I use babyliss curl secret which is super easy but I sometimes use an iron like yours just wrapping my hair around it and not clamping it at all! Also, for wavy hair you could try plaiting all of your hair into small plaits over night and taking it out in the morning, it's easy and a different look :) xx

    not to sure if you know this or not jenn but you shouldn't use keratin/protein on your hair too often because it can actually have a reverse effect and make your hair straw like. i also have the same issue whenever i curl my hair ugh nothing ever worked until i invested in a clipless curling iron. for some reason that worked. you could also try letting your hair cool down first after curling it before spraying it with hairspray (i use a finishing spray because it doesn't leave my hair crunchy). living proof also makes a hair primer that's supposed to make your hair style last. You could also try pin curling your hair but it takes way too long unless you sleep on it. Anywaaaay,i hope this was kind of helpful LOL :)

    Jenn, this is the only thing that works for me - i scrunch my hair right out of the shower with some mousse (I use a light one so that it doesn't get crunchy). This will work to set the heat of the curling iron rather than just putting on hair spray afterwards. it also gives your hair a little bit more volume before you curl it. I scrunch my hair as I blowdry it and then curl it after that. my favorite hairspray is w8less by rusk. it holds really well (esp. in humidity) but is not crunchy. Hope this works as well for you as it does for me! :)

    Jen I learned in a salon, you clamp the middle of the strand (thick or thin) of hair you want to curl (in the center) .. then begin wrapping the curl around the wand .. then wrap it to your head.. it's hard to explain but if you look up how to use a salon clamp curling iron it's really good .. if you start at the ends of your hair by the time you wrap all the hair around it's too thick for the heat to sink in which is why you do it from the center..

    Hey Jenn, try hair spraying your hair first, then brush it. Then curl the entire strand of your hair and then once its curled hairspray it again and then scrunch it... That always worked for me! :) If you need further instruction please respond to this! I'm good with hair curling!

    Jenn, try rolling your curl back up and clipping it to you head like a pin-curl to cool right after curling it, alligator clips should do the trick. Alternatively just cup the rolled curl it in your hand and hold it up for a few seconds to cool a little before letting it fall. Also a good setting spray (different to hairspray) is AMAZING when it comes to vintage wet-sets but I don't know if it works well with heated curling wands/irons, never tried it.
    Awesome shots of the moon there Tim!
