Coming from someone who left Microsoft at the start of the Kinect era it’s great to be back. Had no reason to purchase an Xbox one but I’m enjoying the series x even more than the PS5.
I’m surprised that I end up booting it up more than the ps5. It’s just a more consumer friendly experience for the time being. Looking forward to seeing what Sony brings for their Gamepass competitor.
My only purpose of the PS5 is literally Gravity Rush 1 and 2 (In fact, the series will be 10 years old next month!) It feels empty without hidden gems, tbh…
I'm on the same boat I was out of gaming for a couple years and gamepass plus backwards compatibility makes it so easy to catch up on lost times with the xbox ! I'm not saying one is better then the other I'm just super glad to have an xbox let's say that (also I'm an og since 2003 lol)
My whole life (since ps2) I have owned and been adamant on using playstation each generation. Let me say this, Microsoft's new features this generation are, quite simply, making playstation seem lazy. The fact that on a $300 console, I have access to 360/ original Xbox games that very often run at boosted resolutions, have quick resume, and then don't even get me started on FPS boost. The fact that Assassins creed unity, a game that struggled to hit 30 on ps4/ xbone, can run at a locked 60fps for FREE on a $300 piece of hardware is unbelievable. It is one of the most consumer friendly features I've ever seen in the gaming landscape.
I don't know what Sony's gonna offer as a response. A cloud PS3 games? Thanks but no thanks. Another bunch of poorly emulated PS2 games? Sorry Sony, but what about f**k you very much?
@@nathansellars3757 ummm, retro games are extremely popular. If you did a poll if older games are better than new games I'd bet it would be more yes than no.
@@nathansellars3757 Games like Gran Turismo 4 and the first three Halo games are still hella fun to go back to, even today. I play more retro games than newer games because retro games actually had to come out finished.
I never been a Microsoft fan but the Series S has definitely made me change my mind. Microsoft has pretty much done everything right with Series S with backwards compatibility, Game Pass, and now they are adding studios to develop games exclusively for their Xbox division and PC. Definitely an exciting time to be an Xbox owner.
@Roberto Marx And your display isn't holding your system back? These consoles are holding themselves back now with cross gen, anyways. Series S is solid right now.
Imagine a world where CoD has bi-yearly releases split between the 3 rotating studios so they won’t need to pull in the other support studios to work on them
Overall, it looks great for Microsoft. It's nice to see them seriously competitive again. I hope this means Sony will fight back by looking into their back catalog. Sony has so many IPs that are just dormant and would really be great to see revived. Sly and Twisted Metal would be my biggest picks to see come back.
Sea of Thieves was boring garbage with a pretty paint job. Microsoft has only had a handful of really good games in the last two generations. Hopefully by the end of this generation they will have something to show for all of these acquisitions. I'm counting on it since I pay yearly for GamePass Ultimate lol but ps5 is still going to have more great games, no doubt about it
The deal actually can close between July 1st 2022 - the latest June 30th 2023, because thats what fiscal year 2023 means. 🥊Microsofts gonna be pushing for sooner rather than later.
Good reminder for everyone. A lot of people read the news that the acquisition is gonna close on June 30th, 2023... when instead, they were given a year window when it was expected to close & finalize.
I'm not even mad about the buy out. Maybe Microsoft will make blizzard and Activision great again. Specially blizzard, I want to see them explore more games like they planned on with starcraft ghost or bring back the vikings.
I'm a little excited about it, if their studios have time and money like Microsoft has promised, then hopefully we'll see some great old and new ip's come up. Of course, that's if Microsoft doesn't screw it up lol
Even to the people that are mad about it what they don't understand is that Activision was looking to be sold and they eventually would be by someone else if Microsoft didn't pick them up. Unfortunately it's just business and how this industry works.
Now that call of duty has a chance to rest and not be a yearly ordeal the studios can hopefully be freed up. Oh and to the guy that mentioned timeshift... God I hope so! One of my fav series from the ps2 era.
I'm glad Microsoft is trying to buy Activision and not Google, Amazon, or Meta who would of probably just kept the format of several studios tied to making Call of Dookies every year. Plus it'll only keep Sony from being complacent and they'll have to continue to make really good games. Its a win win for gamers.
Sony was getting a little crazy. They needed a wake up honestly. This should bring balance and make sony work hard in earnest and just not assume this gen is a slame dunk. It should work out for everybody. Especially those with both.
Here's the thing though, yes they'll have a ton of studios by mid 2023 and Xbox wants a lot of old IP's to start being made again by Activision, but if that doesn't start until 2023, we're looking at 2026-2027 until there's any real output by Activision studios. Right now they're all working on Call of Duty and Warzone. Once Microsoft takes over that will change and studios will start developing their own IPs again which will take 3-4 years to complete. When Phil Spencer said it's a move for a future, it really is. It's going to be a long time before we see much new from these acquisitions.
very true will be basically the end of the generation before everything is running at 100%. that being said, with all the previous aquisitions it really doesn't matter much. The graph he showed we saw that the majority of the 50+ projects are outside of Activision Blizzard. They were already in line that starting at the end of this year they will start a strong cadence of releases
Lol these studios are in the works of making games before the acquisition, after the acquisition studios are still in the works. Meaning games are going to be released regularly as they have been. You act like the acquisition erased current work and started all over.
Hopefully they can revitalize some of those studios. Let them get back to unleashing their creativity and making games they like. Hopefully they'll be good and gamers will respond by buying them.
Money can buy you companies end IP, but not people. When Microsoft bought Rare, I know some of the top talent went elsewhere. Some of that top talent formed Free Radical. The brains behind that were the brains behind the likes of Goldeneye.
The only problem is what phil says about free speech. Sigh we will no longer have the xbox live of 360 Era anyone more (where you get messages thst are very threatening.)
Phil Spencer's been spending the better part of 10 years trying to save the Xbox brand from the disaster fire Don Mattrick left behind. Don Mattrick got millions on the way out and a new CEO position at Zynga mobile! Don Mattrick then made the stocks at Zynga tank and got millions more on the way out the door 2 years later. I love America!
@@dragoon1090 You would have had to have played Halo 2 and 3 back into the day to really understand how it was fun to be competitive and aggressive with one another online. People are crazy, but I miss the wild west of Xbox live for sure.
" Great Services " I must say Xbox consoles isn't doing great to be real, as let's just say Sony's or Nintendo's, but in terms of services like Game Pass Xbox is on top right now, what Sony is offering with the Playstation Now and especially Nintendo with its hilarious Switch Online it's not putting any dent on game pass. if Xbox stop making consoles and just go with the Game Pass putting it on everything. it would made them more money than selling consoles.
Could we please get a breakdown video like this showing what Sony has? Being able to compare both company's holding side by side, would really help bring this into focus.
Obvious good thing to come out of this like you mentioned is the fact that so many of these devs in the COD dungeon can finally work on something else. Activision has so many IPs that it’s been sitting on just because COD has been an endless cash cow.
I definitely hope Activision brings back Spyro and remakes Crash Bandicoot Wrath of Cortex or the other Crash Bandicoot games. There's a ton of franchise that they could bring back.
Microsoft certainly aren't messing about this generation. It's a very different Xbox brand from where it was back in 2013. It's a good time to be an Xbox owner.
I disagree. I got a series x and it collects dust and is 4th in the lineup at my house. I don't touch it other then to download the free monthly games or install something I game pass that interests me. It's fine, but did fat I've put a ton of money into a console that hasn't delivered much if anything
I had completely forgotten they bought obsidian(and minecraft). They for sure are going to make COD studios make COD games. On the other hand, it'll be interesting to see how people react when they have access to 34 CODs in games pass
Well, Sony did make a MOCKERY of Xbox and Microsoft every single chance they could last generation. They underestimated Microsoft's commitment and now they are in a difficult situation.
This isn't about Sony. MS could've done this years ago if they wanted. MS has bigger issues to worry about besides establishing GP as the go to gaming as a service
with all these studios I can see alot of networking and support, a game on crunch to make deadline might not be so bad if they have another studio that just finished a game that shipped able to support that stuido
That's the nice thing... With do many studios, and with the specific needs of GamePass, delays and deadlines aren't so critical. MS can take the time to polish and if something is delayed, they just slot something else in
I think a delay might be the better option than passing stuff over to another studio. Picking up someone else’s project near the end without being close to it is a recipe for disaster unless it’s just run of the mill stuff.
I would not have been as positive to this acquisition a few years back, but a lot of factors (including my 2 years of being locked into gamepass from my Series X purchase) has left me me hopeful at the very least. 😅😅
Yeah, leaving out the huge issues of harassment cause that's it's own disgusting can of worms, Activision's way of going about franchises and laying off workers after a huge success is immensely frustrating. Seriously, many times numerous teams at Activision make a great game, then it's sequel doesn't do as well, and then it's just dead (Prototype, Transformers War for Cybertron, Crash.etc) And even when it does work out people get layed off anyway. MS buying Activision is only a good thing right now, now a sequel or new IP doesn't have to make millions, it just needs people to play it on Gamepass
Look - it is simple. With ONE message to the gaming community, Phil Spencer has created MUCH more excitement for anything to do with Activision Blizzard than it has seen for years with just CoD. The internet is rife with ideas and talks about which franchises MS could revive...everything from Pitfall and Chopper Command to Blur and Skylanders. AB has some great IP - but Activision became a COD factory, and Blizzard has been in decline for some time. They were making a lot of money but let's face - AB were sinking and even if this set of scandals hadn't occurred, they'd be gone - bankrupt or bought - in a few years anyway. Kotick went for short term profit, while MS, for now at least, seems much more interested in the long term. GamePass rewards diversity - it doesn't rewards short term cash grabs and Phil Spencer seems to realise that. Long term, GP needs diversity of content and profitability or how much money a game can rake in isn't the only factor to be considered. A game which sells poorly may still bring more than enough to attract players to GamePass.
@@dude9904 people play it a couple of times. Probably don't even complete the game. How is this going to generate a lot of monies fir Microsoft? Games like warzone, fortnite are cash generators.
@@josecuervo8487 it's clearly about more then Money, it's about boosting those Game Pass numbers. A game doesn't need to sell a lot it just needs to be played, and if you have a Game Pass membership why not download the newest Activision releases? Better especially if Activision starts getting all different kinds of games out the door. Also they are Going to own King (Candy Crush) and CoD. I think they're fine for cash lol
I had a 360 day 1 and was really happy with it throughout its life. I never purchased a One because I didn’t like the direction and messaging from Xbox. It’s good to be back with a Series X and to be excited about Xbox’s direction again.

Probably the best chance for Sony is to find a "niche" similarly to Nintendo. But being a company that has a great potentional (hardware, Hollywood studios, Game studios,...) it seems they still haven't found their way since they dropped from being a trend setter in the 90's. Many younger people maybe don't realize that Sony was like Apple ar least in the 90's
I do agree though. I hope they'll continue to make their high quality single player games and explore new gaming experiences with their hardware. Basically just do what they've been doing and avoid directly competing with the other tech giants
I sooooo hope toys for Bob will continue the works on spyro, crash bandicoot and perhaps a reboot of banjo Kazooie. Who knows but gamepass is in dire need of these type of games compared to all the other titles in development.
Not really, they are giving the studios freedom to do what they want. They just need to ensure the releases make sense from marketing and sales perspective.
@@sumomaster9144 yea, managing and organizing ALL of those titles, keeping tabs on their development progress, figuring out what games are going to be ready on time, or delayed. With so many potential releases, a delay or 2 could then have the marketing for that game, bump into another game release of theirs. U might say that with game pass, it's not a big deal. But ideally, they would probably want to have a 1st party title every other month in order to give them some time to shine on their own. They have to be super in-tune with the development of 40+ projects now. Can Phil Spencer and Matt Booty run a tight ship? Again, I'm interested to see how it goes.
@@thisisnotreallife20 I get what you mean and where you are coming from. But no worries, MS is the largest software maker, surely they have that figured out. They are managing fine with Windows, Office, Hardware..etc releases, I don't imagine managing games should be any different.
I've never cared about which system has what exclusive because I just get every platform. Been that way since NES/Genesis days. Microsoft is really starting this gen off strong. I haven't been able to find a PS5 but I did get a Series X day 1. I'm not even mad about it. I'll probably get one but I'm not in a hurry anymore for sure.
The Xbox Series X and Game Pass has gotten me back into gaming. Microsoft/Xbox has made an incredible machine with unrivaled services. The amount of games is mind blowing already now it’s in an entirely different galaxy. I know 5 people that’s already sold their PS5 and purchased a Xbox Series X and Game Pass since the other day. As gamers I think we should applaud Microsoft and support Xbox for a service like Game Pass instead of charging us $70 for the same third person games and remakes of the same games we already played.
Sony has managed to release quite a few next-gen games for PS5 and it's outperforming the Series X in most comparisons in the first year, only marginally though so far. Xbox has Game Pass going for it which is great value but PC and PS5 is still the best combo in my opinion
@@duncanself5111 Game Pass can work for both PC and Xbox, making it a pretty good combo. PlayStation has a larger market share, but the Series X is clearly the better console. It's more powerful and has much better backwards compatibility. It also has more cross-platform multiplayer.
One area I would like to see Microsoft do is bring in more Japanese games. Whether its more 3rd part support from Japanese developers or publishing games that were made in Japan (like Tango GamesWork or like what we saw with Lost Odyssey during the 360 eras).
They need to produce next-gen games. PS5 already has five or six where as xbox only has Flight Sim which is a PC port so not designed for the console hardware
Toys for Bob did an excellent job with the Crash and Spyro remakes. Maybe they can resurrect Banjo? Xbox really needed to purchase a studio to make a new Killer Instinct. I don’t know about Bandai Namco……but we shall see!

I know chip shortages are hard right now, but an Xbox handheld (not needing Xcloud) would be great. Imagine having Game Pass with you wherever you go just in the palm of your hand(s), or being able to just grab your handheld, slouch on the couch, and keep switching between games using Quick Resume.
Xbox Series Portable. Basically the steam deck but more sleek with detachable joycons. Series X is 4k 60, S is 1080p 60, Portable is 720p 60. It would expand the ecosystem to handheld fans and make gamepass viable anywhere internet sucks. They would easily sell 100 million portables. I'm starved for a good handheld and while steamdeck rocks I'd rather have an Xbox one. It's my most wanted addition the Xbox brand.
They definitely need a portable. It would boost gamepass subs by quite a bit I'd guess. Who knows. Maybe they're working on one, or maybe it's not financially feasible A handheld to download games world kneecap their cloud services and the play on phone or tablet angle. Maybe they could coexist. I'd certainly buy a portable day one though.
Spawn Wave I guess you've been reading my comments. MS isn't even competing with Sony and Nintendo. Keep note, Apple has made more money in the gaming sector than Sony, MS, Nintendo combined. Not even close.

Over 25mil players and people still don't take Sea of Thieves seriously 😅 Disney came to them with Pirate of the Caribbean content, this is how successful it is
They just bought all the live service games they need, this is the future. Activision hasn't had a single player or story game focus so I really hope MS will change that, but i guess they need to make that money back.
The amount of studios Microsoft has isn't as big an issue as to why they have these studios. Microsoft will partner with sony and Nintendo to support each other. Facebook, Netflix, Google and a few others are trying to get into the gaming space by purchasing game publishers. Don't expect a war between sony and microsoft this gen. They are working to prevent new company's from getting into gaming space.
@@therealbalto24 Well yes and no. If the games as a subscription thing takes off and it will hurt Sony's business for sure especially considering they were going the other route of $70 premium games. Xbox, Nintendo and Sony are synonymous with gaming. NONE of them are going anywhere.
All of this happened cuz sonys stupid timed exclusives taking games away from xbox. It dont affect us the people who play on every consoles but those who only play on xbox or nintendo is a big bummer. but it is what it is i think sony deserve it cuz they are really selfish and has the most toxic community by far. At the big picture sony is irrelevant as tencent, apple and google are the real threatcuz they can and have the 💵 to buy any studios they desire and that would be the real sad story.
I'd already been thinking of getting a series x, which would be my first ever Xbox. Game pass just sounds really enticing. With this acquisition, and hearing Phil Spencer (or whoever it was) saying he wants development teams to bring back older IPs, well that's extra enticing. Would love to see some new THPS and Guitar Hero with actual effort behind them, and I'd feel much more comfortable giving them my hard earned money knowing it's not going to Kotic and any other terrible monsters that I'm hoping get the axe once things go through. For now I'll stick to switch and PS5, but Xbox is definitely on my watch list for next year once more news comes out.
I would get a series x to sit next to your ps5. It will save you money in the long run on games you don't think will actually be good but you want to try, like rainbow six siege extraction is on gamepass and i wanted to play it but not sure its worth buying and all i had to do was download it from the gamepass store. Than have your ps5 to play exclusive games for that respect system. Best of both words fanboys are missing out
It's a bit sad to see the internet devolve this news into petty console wars when in reality, Microsoft is doing this for far more than PlayStation vs Sony. They've said time and time again, that their biggest competitors aren't Nintendo or Sony, its Alphabet (Google) and Amazon, and such they want to get their hands on the entire pie of the gaming industry before they can. Remember, Phill was purposely vague and said 'honor existing agreements,' meaning that only those games under those contracts will be 100% mulitplat, those afterwards not bound to that document are up to air, so they _could_ be Xbox exclusive, but it may also not. In fact, I think judging by Phill's words of their 'desire to keep on PlayStation' makes me think him and Microsoft is gonna make a deal with Sony where if they don't take it, then they'll just take future CoD titles off of their platform. Now what is their deal? Why its Game Pass of course, Microsoft has publically said they want their service on other platforms, and what better way of basically forcing it on PlayStation, than taking one of the biggest IPs in the world as hostage for their agreement. Now imagine Microsoft doing the same thing with Nintendo with different IPs, creating a future where Game Pass is on all 3 console platforms + PC. If this does happens, than it will benefit everyone, all consumers will win. If this is truly what Microsoft is going for, than I must applaud them as its ingenious.
Yes, let’s applaud the multi billion dollar corporation for purchasing another multi billion dollar corporation so that other multi billion dollar corporations couldn’t do it first.
I doubt Sony would let GamePass on PS, not when they've announced that they're working on a PS version of Gamepass... To release a direct competitor on their system, which is way better that theirs.. Not to mention, only streaming GamePass would really work, as Xbox architecture and PS architecture are vastly different. So different many Devs have had hard time getting games to run well on PS, mainly Bethesda, but still, to port all the Xbox games over would cost more than just making things exclusive. ( and at that point, might as well just stream on a smart TV or phone, or get a cheaper Xbox series S..)

I'm just saying that their plans for the acquisition goes farther than just simply fucking over Sony.
You didn't mention the unique players of Sea of thieves on gamepass which numbers in the millions if not close to 25 million in combination with games purchased.
This acquisition just makes me laugh because so many people ik say they play on Playstation for the exclusive games but now Microsoft has most of the good developers on lock down.
@@corey2232 , sometimes shareholders see companies sitting on cash as wasteful. If the cash isn't being put to work it could mean the company has no ideas for growth and should maybe pay out special dividends. Another important consideration is inflation. Cash loses purchasing power over time so a company sitting on say $100B is "losing" around $45M/week.
This has nothing to do with selling consoles, or even Sony and Nintendo, and everything to do with gamepass and, in particular, streaming. Whether we like it or not cloud gaming is going to be the future, particularly in poorer countries where dropping 100s or even 1000s on a gaming set up is just not possible. This is the massive untapped market that Microsoft are going to be targeting. I wouldn't be surprised if Microsoft dipped out the console market altogether. Where's the need for a console if you can just connect your controller to a tv and load up gamepass
I doubt they'll dip out completely. They'll keep doing consoles for safety (in case of backlash from dumb decisions). The Gamepass model gives gamers a bit of say in what the company does; they don't want to lose millions of subs because they did something stupid. Their consoles will most likely be going even more towards specialized pcs, though.
Totally missing the point that poor countries don't have the internet speeds to play these games. Not to mention tvs don't have that kind of software or hardware. Also I would hate having to rely on an internet connection to play games
@Cerus98 Microsoft aren't thinking about next year, or the year after. They're planning for 10, 15, even 20 years into the future. You can already stream gamepass on pretty much any platform excluding PlayStation and Nintendo, and outside of fps it works too if you've got decent internet. You're right regarding poorer countries at the moment. 20 years into the future, who knows.

Microsoft isn’t gonna dip out of the console market because they still have High Demand for the Series X/S and their core audience still plays on the Xbox. Which is why they plan on still have Console Exclusives for those gamers in the future. But they are going to focus and push game pass forward tho since it makes such a huge profit now.
I think competition is great for the industry. Sony needs to keep purchasing singular dev teams like Housmarque, Bluepoint etc. as they have been. MS is just throwing money around purchasing entire publishers. Which is fine. But Quantity ≠ Quality... Sony is just fine the way they are. As far as revenue, they are still the most valuable game publisher on the planet. Followed by Ten Cent. Followed by MS and Nintendo...
Yeah because now they Charge $70 for a 10 hour game and everyone swallows it up. Sure their games are great but also their consumer practices are kinda designed to milk as much money as possible
I don’t know why everyone keeps acting like all Microsoft has been buying is quantity. They’ve acquired many talented studios in both the Bethesda and activision-blizzard purchases

Right now I've got a PS5 and Gamepass on my Gaming Laptop that I've been more or less playing around with. It's fun to think about the ways these acquisitions could go and I think Activision absolutely needed something like this, as the state of them focusing almost entirely on CoD has left them in a state of stagnation for the sake of profit. I would LOVE for there to be added value to my Gamepass outside of playing last gen games, but I do need to be realistic about what Spawn has described here. It has been more than a year since the consoles released, the best Gamepass has in terms of current gen is Forza Horizon and (arguably) Halo Infinite. I say arguable because the visual quality of the game was purposefully tailored to last gen. Outside of a questionable starfield release, there is nothing on the time table provided here (SO FAR, this can change I admit) where we can expect a reliable release schedule for 2022. In so far as I can tell, Gamepass' value is the same in 2022 as it had been in 2021, mainly as a catch all device for last gen games at a discount. I would love to see this change and I hope this is on the path to that goal. AND if something comes out on a level that I think my 2021 gaming laptop can't handle and it isn't on PS5, I might consider getting an XSX. That hasn't happened yet, though.
I think Holiday 2022 is going to be the true start of Xbox's storm on the ninth gen. Everything points to Statfield being the first domino - from there, we start seeing all those games previously talked about finally get release dates. It's the 360 Era but stronger.
Are you forgetting Crossfire X, Redfall, Stalker, and Forza Motorsports 8? And who said the Starfield release date is questionable the game has been worked on since 2016, I don't see it being pushed back further.
@@Prodigy396 1st, let me clarify Starfield. I call it questionable because besides the cinematic and the date announcement, we have seen no gameplay whatsoever. I question any game with no gameplay that is being released current year. I get that Bethesda is the type of studio that releases that sort of thing close to the release date. Bethesda also has a habit of releasing buggy games too. Hence questionable. As far as release schedules: Stalker 2 already announced a delay into 2023. FM8 is a tentative November 2022, not confirmed. Redfall is PC.. As for Crossfire X.... a generic FPS that is exclusive to xbox and looks completely last gen. You got me, that ones coming out exclusive to console. Respectfully agree to disagree, but two game isn't a schedule any more than 2 games was a schedule last year.
I said it before and it's more true now than ever. Xbox Owns 9th Gen. Even without Activision the team at Microsoft already had a huge head start. Sony makes great games, but they're playing catch up, we'll see what Sony can pull off when PS6 rolls around.
Sony us gonna be fine. Call of duty was the only thing that really mattered in that catalog. Sony can buckle up and make a fantastic fps again. They have plenty of IPs to play with. Also Sony retires IPs all the time and starts new ones. If anything this is going to boost xbox's pc presence. Honestly Diablo, overwatch, and world of Warcraft aren't the biggest console sellers. And it's not like Microsoft is going to revive every IP it just brought. There's not enough calander time for everything

Can you imagine Phil Spencer telling Blizzard to unfuck Warcraft 3 Refunded and make it into the proper Warcraft 3 Reforged that it was supposed to be? One can dream. :)
@@cornpop2630 That was different management at the time. Also Rare didn't want to make the style of game they were known for anymore. They wanted to make new experiences never done before which is why they became the Kinect studio. But now every studio has their own autonomy now and unlike when Activision-Blizzard were by themselves, they don't have to force out only billion dollar franchises because pushing Game Pass is the end goal and what pushes Game Pass is more content and variety of content. 7 studios working on COD doesn't fit that so the "support" studios will probably go back to making their own games.

I have never been a fan of Sony's way of doing business, but I must admit that I am more and more worried about them. MS/Xbox has been setting this table for the past 5 years + and even though the writing was on a the wall, the reality seems to be hitting Sony in the face lately. We'll see what happens with project Spartacus, but at this point, there is no way Sony can pour as much content in their service without taking the same route MS has for the past 5 years.
This purchase will finish in say 2023, so at earliest we expect new changes from MS to show results in 2028. Sony has enough time to do something until then. As of now, their brand is very strong. Other than a response to GP and easing the supply issues, they don't need to change much.
I don’t think Sony will be quaking in their boots with these acquisitions. End of the day they have a solid load of their own studios and have really lead the way over the last two generations when it comes to exclusive titles. This is very much Microsoft playing catch up. Sony are a smart, behemoth of a company. They know what they’re doing.
@@sumomaster9144 Why 5 years? Bethesda aquisition is already showing results not even a real later: All bethesda games on Gamepass, Red Fall and Starfield coming as exclusives in 2022... Not sure why it would take 5 years before seeing ripples from the Act/Bliz acquisition. Can you explain what you mean?
@@Harveevideos Basically game development takes a very long time. If you have an established IP and you just want to extend it with a new game, 3~5 years seem reasonable. If it's a new IP, then it might take longer. So unless Activision already has some stuff in the pipeline, it won't show results very quickly. I think that was the case for Bethesda, they already have stuff planned. Similarly, some of the studios acquired by MS in 2019 still haven't shown what they are doing, because it's a long process
Finally some competition from Microsoft it's great! The Xbox one generation was starting to make me think they were giving up on the Xbox brand. Competition is generally good for the consumer too.
The only thing that will prove that microsoft is not messing around is if the games are good. If not same thing different year. They already had a lot pf studios before.

As one comment said, 6 years from now if things dont change in Sony, we'll be seeing 3 triple A games on sony per year and 10 Triple A games not only on Xbox but "free" on gamepass per year. The quality of the products for either sony or xbox studios is something to still be seen but, as a nintendo and sony fan, things are getting interesting because this will make sony adapt or fall behind by a lot. Nintendo is... well... nintendo. Also, I've never been a fan of Fallout, elder scrolls, wolfenstein or CoD, but I am a fan of doom, crash, spyro, overwatch so, there is something for everyone on gamepass either you think the service is good for the industry or not.

@Edward yep my bad lol
When Microsoft buy studios/publishers, Phil wants to revive dead classic franchises. Amazon and Google would never do that.
Exactly. Nobody is talking about this
very true will be basically the end of the generation before everything is running at 100%. that being said, with all the previous aquisitions it really doesn't matter much. The graph he showed we saw that the majority of the 50+ projects are outside of Activision Blizzard. Some of these studios had games in the pipe line before they put them on call of duty. You can just resume those projects.
Toys for Bob was definitely working on something before being put on cod.
Hopefully they can revitalize some of those studios. Let them get back to unleashing their creativity and making games they like. Hopefully they'll be good and gamers will respond by buying them.

That's the nice thing...
With do many studios, and with the specific needs of GamePass, delays and deadlines aren't so critical. MS can take the time to polish and if something is delayed, they just slot something else in
I think that will likely happen tho, because of these developers from several studios working together triggers a lot of innovations.
I think a delay might be the better option than passing stuff over to another studio. Picking up someone else’s project near the end without being close to it is a recipe for disaster unless it’s just run of the mill stuff.
Microsoft is creating a brand new Studio from the ground up that is meant to be a support for teams working with the Unreal Engine.

Yeah, leaving out the huge issues of harassment cause that's it's own disgusting can of worms, Activision's way of going about franchises and laying off workers after a huge success is immensely frustrating.

And even when it does work out people get layed off anyway.
MS buying Activision is only a good thing right now, now a sequel or new IP doesn't have to make millions, it just needs people to play it on Gamepass
Let me guess, Xbox All Access?..
They definitely need a portable. It would boost gamepass subs by quite a bit I'd guess. Who knows. Maybe they're working on one, or maybe it's not financially feasible
A handheld to download games world kneecap their cloud services and the play on phone or tablet angle. Maybe they could coexist.
I'd certainly buy a portable day one though.
Steam deck, install windows, get gamepass.
We do it's called Android auto. 🤦♂️
Spawn Wave I guess you've been reading my comments. MS isn't even competing with Sony and Nintendo. Keep note, Apple has made more money in the gaming sector than Sony, MS, Nintendo combined. Not even close.
Xbox is doing great things. Love the hardware, exclusives are getting better and better, and GamePass is just in its own league.
John, you should seriously try Fallout 76. It’s come a LONG way! There is an AMAZING single player campaign now! It’s on Gamepass! Give it a try! Over 25mil players and people still don't take Sea of Thieves seriously 😅
Disney came to them with Pirate of the Caribbean content, this is how successful it is
High moon did transformers war and fall of cyberton. Also Deadpool, I think. Need more transformers games
Man E3 may as well be an Xbox event now. It's going to be a 2 hr reel of nonstop Xbox/Windows/Gamepass exclusive lol.
I don't care what Xbox does anymore.
They just bought all the live service games they need, this is the future. Activision hasn't had a single player or story game focus so I really hope MS will change that, but i guess they need to make that money back.
Next up, Microsoft buys G4TV
The amount of studios Microsoft has isn't as big an issue as to why they have these studios.
Microsoft will partner with sony and Nintendo to support each other. Facebook, Netflix, Google and a few others are trying to get into the gaming space by purchasing game publishers.
Don't expect a war between sony and microsoft this gen.
They are working to prevent new company's from getting into gaming space.
This man gets it. Theres enough room for all 3 to grow and make bank. Allowing any wiggle room for Amazon Google or Apple to move in causes problems.
Nahhh sony wants to burry them all if they can
@@therealbalto24 Well yes and no. If the games as a subscription thing takes off and it will hurt Sony's business for sure especially considering they were going the other route of $70 premium games. Question then would be whether Sony can finds themselves a niche in the market such as Nintendo did with their family friendly focus on games.
@@sirmi9868 that's simply not possible Nintendo for starters is already far too established for that. And if Microsoft was gonna be killed off it would have been last gen. With how strong they are coming into this gen there's 0 chance.
All the CEOs of each company have all said that they get together for talks regularly. They don't want to ruin each other, they want to keep it all for themselves and to do that there needs to be some teamwork.
@@weaverquest Sony makes fantastic games. I agree gamepass will take off but it won't kill off Sony. Sony will just have to adjust their buissness model accordingly hence Spartacus and talk of them hiring x cloud services.
In short yes it will hurt Sony but they're also far too established.
Just lookat their reaction over these purchases, and how they brag when sony buys a little studio. At the big picture sony is irrelevant as tencent, apple and google are the real threatcuz they can and have the 💵 to buy any studios they desire and that would be the real sad story.
Can't forget that they're confirmed to get Ubisoft +. It won't be part of Game Pass (at first), but it's another option.
Yea, I might try it tbh.
Sea Of Thieves sold 5 million just on steam. It should be more than 10 million easily might even be more.
Best of both words fanboys are missing out
Me too but these new games won't start coming out until it's time for new consoles already
I bought both and I gave way more hours logged on my Xbox compared to my PS5 really enjoying it!
Am I the only one who thinks elder scrolls in space sounds awful? I hope it's not elder scrolls in space lol
Sony would be insane to allow game pass on playstation
@@NoonDragoon dont worry my man, they are running a fine line now between being left alone and having an anti trust lawsuit brought against them (again)
@@NoonDragoon oh don't get me wrong, this is definitely capitalism, and we shouldn't be treating this as Microsoft bring the 'good guys' here. They have gone back to old 90s Microsoft who was trying to buy put their competition in the web engine space so only Windows can make a profit.
I'm just saying that their plans for the acquisition goes farther than just simply fucking over Sony.
What do I think ? .....Game Pass is f##$!ing awesome.....also my backlog will be waiting for me when I retire an the kids are out of the house
Everyone seems to be ignoring Tencent in all this Microsoft V Sony business
This is a bad thing for everyone. Just because you consume doesn't mean you have talent.
Also think about how these new studios could wow us with wild cards the way Obsidian did with the Avowed reveal.
I get that this was a huge purchase for Mocrosoft but, how in the hell is it worth nearly 69 billion dollars???
You didn't mention the unique players of Sea of thieves on gamepass which numbers in the millions if not close to 25 million in combination with games purchased.
Spawnwave ya a ledge!
This acquisition just makes me laugh because so many people ik say they play on Playstation for the exclusive games but now Microsoft has most of the good developers on lock down.
A sandwich on a table 😂
And they still need to spend 60 billion by the end of this year... expect more acquisitions
😈😈 yesss
Why do they need to spend another $60 billion?
@@corey2232 , sometimes shareholders see companies sitting on cash as wasteful. If the cash isn't being put to work it could mean the company has no ideas for growth and should maybe pay out special dividends.
Another important consideration is inflation. Cash loses purchasing power over time so a company sitting on say $100B is "losing" around $45M/week.
This is unbelievably exciting!
@@a26martinez22 what do you mean by tv's not having the hard or soft ware? All they need is an internet connection. Microsoft are already in discussion with various manufacturers to have gamepass installed on there tv's pre sale. Don't get me wrong, I'm not bashing Microsoft, I've got a series x, just pointing out the way the industry is going to go
Microsoft isn’t gonna dip out of the console market because they still have High Demand for the Series X/S and their core audience still plays on the Xbox.
@@Kyt2024 how many times you buy Skyrim? Bethesda has been terrible lately, like EVERY OTHER studio. Stop giving corporations your affiliation as if they were sole sports team. They’re only in tus to make themselves even more rich not to give us what we want.
@@707romo707 I never said they haven’t had some games that weren’t great, but they still have some very talented studios. Also I have never purchased Skyrim, I don’t overly care for it. Also stop presuming things, I own all the consoles and if anything I play my Nintendo more than anything else
This is exactly what im doing
As far as release schedules:
Stalker 2 already announced a delay into 2023.
For flip same man they do not need 6 studios making call of duty games.
Such a waste
We're at the point where Sony and Nintendo compete because Microsoft allows them to.
Wow... This is amazingly accurate lol
Why no fallout 3/nv on switch??? COME ON, MAN
Overall I feel that the new ownership will reduce Activision nonstop micro transactions. Let the studios do what they love avoid crunching them on time. Honestly hope to see them all help each other since lots of company working under the same boss
should also bring in some new stuff instead of them just mostly being locked in the CoD loop
If it makes money...it wont stop
Can you teach me how marks on Nintendo Switch? My little yorkie chewed it up.
Can you imagine Phil Spencer telling Blizzard to unfuck Warcraft 3 Refunded and make it into the proper Warcraft 3 Reforged that it was supposed to be? One can dream. :)
It’s ironic that now I kind of wish Bungie hadn’t split off from Activision
Hopefully this may change PS5 stance of game price increses. Competition is good for consumers!
Competition is only good when Xbox does it, I guess :/
We need a DuelSense equivalent for the Xbox
There's alot of opportunities with all these acquisitions and hopefully we'll see some amazing things in the future
They better not squander this talent like they did RARE, and that's coming from an Xbox fan from the 360 era
@@Don-Otaku yeah. The management in the days of the RARE acquisition was out of their minds to not leverage the studio even if they wanted to make kinect titles. Still waiting for Banjo Threeie and to be exclusive to xbox lol

Sony loss 20 billion capital stock market for this Activision news
@@sumomaster9144 Why 5 years? Bethesda aquisition is already showing results not even a real later: All bethesda games on Gamepass, Red Fall and Starfield coming as exclusives in 2022...

Nintendo is... well... nintendo.
