Charlie, all of us who love figure-skating (and especially ice-dancing) really appreciate the knowledge that you and Tracy Wilson bring to your commentary, plus the class that you show in being quiet during the performance and making astute comments afterwards. Many of us rely on videos from kind people around the world to keep up with the skaters at all the Grand Prix events (we don't have the luxury of attending each event, where there is silence in the arena while each performer skates, except for applause here and there); when commentators (on TV or via videos) talk THROUGH a performance, it takes so much away from our enjoyment of the skate or the intensity with which we want to watch each skater or duo perform. Thank you!

Most of these events are not televised in USA, so I rely on various kind people on UA-cam (from all around Europe and Asia), who post videos from British Eurosport, Russian television (which also gets uploaded immediately), Italian TV, and occasionally U.S. coverage (someone named "sabinfire" on YT is a wonderful source for uploading videos with American announcers). I don't like to listen to the CBC (Canadian) announcers, because they're very condescending and biased toward only Canadian skaters. I just want to see the best of the best, whatever country they live in. I cannot afford to "subscribe" to places like icenetwork, etc., so I rely on the kindness of all the people who upload every single video from each competition, plus the gala performances. Enjoy the rest of the Grand Prix season!

Wow!!! I appreciate Charlie White much more now!!!! He as a skater, was more athlete than an artist and didn't show so many emotions on the ice because he focused on the technical perfection. He and Meryl did their best though and I will never forget that they introduced me to ice dance with their 2014 Olympic free dance!!!! In the past I barely watched Ice Dance, I wasn't interested at all!! And nextyear, with Papadakis/Cizeron, I became a big fan of this discipline!!!! The reigning Olympic Ice Dance Champion, with Meryl Davis, who held the world record till P/C broke it and instead of being upset for the record, he admires this couple and Cizeron's skating skills!!!! Not everyone would do that... On the other hand, other commentators try to bring them up!!! Thank you Charlie for your sportsmanship!!! Wish everyone follows your attitude in every aspect of life!!!!!!!!
The more often I watch this, the more I realize what a sophisticated, contemporary 'dance' this is, with incredible moments of stillness, deeply felt emotion, and a sense of 'flying': my special favorite moments: 0:47 (the interlocking of their arms); 1:05 lift; 2:20 stillness; 3:08 segue into next music (so seamless and unique); 3:28 lift; 4:10 where you can feel Gaby push out with a speed and emotion that drives the emotion to a peak; 4:30 the incredible lines/shapes. IMO, truly magical. And they seem to float over the ice. I can "feel" their connection to each other even when they're not physically touching. Guillaume was always (for past three years especially) a magnetic dancer; but now I feel Gaby is truly his equal/she has grown so much since I first saw them skate in 2014, in technique and emotion....and they're both so very young to have such a maturity and a vision of where they want to go and what they want to do. Plus, they have a playful side, which came out in the wonderful swing section of their Short Dance; trying to inject humor and fun into an already technically difficult routine just makes it harder (I listened to interviews that Torvill and Dean had about some of their humorous programs and how hard those were to carry off perfectly); plus, their edges and lines in the jazz section were so exceptional (I read the 'rules and regulations' about the jazz/"compulsory" part of the SD: much more complicated than I ever realized....exact number of steps which can be taken in one direction, how many turns the woman can make under the man's arm & outstretched leg, having to start up another section at exact point they left when starting a previous 'element' -- Gaby and Guillaume do their SDs so effortlessly that I forget there are rules for the SDs; theirs are like mini Free Dances.
I've viewed this performance so many times now, catching novel nuances here and there. Try watching their arms, hands, fingers, and fingertips (yes, fingertips!) alone during the entire piece. They betray their flight and absolute surrender to the music.

I watched this program from a variety of different videos from other TV stations and other countries to see what the opinions of their commentators were: as I expected, many (except for Russian TV) kept "recreating" the same old 'competition' with Virtue and Moir"' i.e., how will P/C do against the wonderful V/M, how will they handle having V/M train with same coaches in Montreal?, etc. The best answer (and one I thought all along) came in a TSL opinion video, in which the commentators said, "There are some other good technical ice-dance duos out there, but there's always the feeling, especially with V/M that they're 'trying too hard' (their words, not mine, although I agree), 'their lovey emotions are so obviously faked and put on', whereas P/C (even though not a "couple" in real life) skate from the heart, with a soul-deep passion for what they are doing and an emotional ''connection' that is "honest and real and not put on", and that people viewing their performances can 'feel' that, and I think that hits the nail on the head. That's why I liked Davis and White so much: they skated from the heart and because they enjoyed it so much (and said, often, that they didn't see themselves as "competing" against V/M -- as the media kept building up that storyline -- but skated "for themselves, constantly trying to improve and feel the music". That's what I get from P/C and what I think makes them special: once they start dancing, they are totally connected with each other and the feel of the music and their own deep-rooted storylines; there are no "fake" smiles, no overdone movements to attract the audience (as though to say, "Watch me! We are terrific", a feeling I get from some other top technical duos); it seems like I, as a viewer, am intruding into their world for a little while and feeling emotions that are real and honest. (Some commentators criticized their new SD (except for T. Tarasova, who said, "It absolutely deserved a standing ovation"); but I read that Gabriella loves 'swing music' outside of the ice rink and that they both like to laugh and have a good time, so their smiles and sense of enjoyment in the swing section were absolutely a part of who they are. And some commentators said they should have tried something 'new' in their FD this year, and gone back to a "lyrical" style for the upcoming Olympic season: nuts! I think they find music they like and feel they must do it now, not (rather "coldheartedly" plan when to do what), perhaps especially since this FD has to do, partly, with chaos and peacefulness and hopefulness, and how short life is....and maybe, having missed almost an entire season last year because of Gaby's concussion from an accident on the ice, feel that they want to do their best in the 'now', while they can because 'who knows what will happen in the future?' I'm sure they will come up with another stunning FD for the Olympic season (I don't know yet what the SD "required dance" will be yet). Again, just my opinion (and true comments from other announcers from different TV stations)....please no nasty responses back. And, as Gaby posted recently on Instagram, "it's really awful to see such negative comments about skaters who are not one's particular favorites. on social media: each skater is working so hard and trying their very best, and they should not be subjected to hateful comments."

Nathalie Péchalat devrait plutôt se reconvertir en actrice, elle est plutôt belle! En ce qui concerne les commentaires, c'était mieux à l'époque de Roger Zabel et l'autre commentatrice dont je ne me rappelle plus le nom.
Bien dit, quel bouffon ce Nelson Montfort! De toute façon, il n'en a rien à faire du patinage, il utilise ces émissions pour se mettre lui-même en avant. On dirait un peu Jean-Jacques Bourdin de chez RMC. Il n'est que la caricature de sa propre marionnette. De toute façon, le service public, la télé en général, le showbiz, c'est surtout du copinage.
Hé bien l'année dernière, je pointais du doigt les portés car on avait le même porté dans la SD et dans la FD et je trouvais qu'il n'y avait pas assez de porté par rapport aux autres couples. Et bien il faut croire qu'ils m'ont entendu lol puisqu'en Europe ils ont ajouté le porté final sublime. De même ils ont changé un peu le porté 'jeté en arrière'. Je n'avais plus rien à dire car ce qui me chagrinait en france, a été corrigé en Europe et puis aux mondiaux. Il faut aussi dire que l'angle de la caméra en France n'aide pas. Maintenant, vont ils rester dans ce même univers aux JO où vont ils complètement changer de musique ? J'aimerai bien les voir patiner sur une musique égyptienne ou sur un grand classique comme les 4 saisons de vivaldi, juste pour voir ce que eux feraient là dessus. Et vous quels sont vos souhaits ?
Il vous faut absolument 3 portés flamboyants cela manque trop dans votre programme. il est trop pauvre en portés. les portés doivent avoir au moins 3 changements de positions. regardez le programme de virtue moir il y a beaucoup de puissance et cela manque dans votre narration pourtant forte. et attention garder vos positions lors des twizel. Hé bien l'année dernière, je pointais du doigt les portés car on avait le même porté dans la SD et dans la FD et je trouvais qu'il n'y avait pas assez de porté par rapport aux autres couples. Et bien il faut croire qu'ils m'ont entendu lol puisqu'en Europe ils ont ajouté le porté final sublime. De même ils ont changé un peu le porté 'jeté en arrière'. Je n'avais plus rien à dire car ce qui me chagrinait en france, a été corrigé en Europe et puis aux mondiaux. Il faut aussi dire que l'angle de la caméra en France n'aide pas.
Maintenant, vont ils rester dans ce même univers aux JO où vont ils complètement changer de musique ?
J'aimerai bien les voir patiner sur une musique égyptienne ou sur un grand classique comme les 4 saisons de vivaldi, juste pour voir ce que eux feraient là dessus.
