  • Here's an excerpt from my forthcoming book, Gathering Time....
"The woodlands are once again a magnet for photographers hoping to experience and capture the splendour and glory of nature’s grand finale before the rustling leaves fade and the trees become dormant skeletons in the silence of winter."
I enjoy every season in the woods, but autumn holds a different kind of magic. Join me and Meg as we photograph oaks, alders and even bird cherry trees.

Seeing those old trees thru your photography is a win-win. We get to enjoy seeing them and they don't get trampled by people.... I hope you and the land owner never give out the location....it's one of a kind. Hope you're feeling well!!

I liked what you said..."yes, it's a photo of trees, but it's not about the trees". Maybe I need to remember that when I am in a woodland. I really struggle to see compositions in the chaos. You make it look so easy and beautiful.

Beautiful photos, there’s a poetry to the trees that makes them magical-I’m a tree hugger and go about in the woods greeting them along my walks- if anyone ever encounters me and hears me talking to them don’t think I’m crazy, I’m half fae. 🙂🐿

Really enjoy the oak tree photos. They grow is such abstract ways. Where I live, we have live oak and they don't grow quite as abstract. There this one huge oak in front of a bank. Winter, the tree is bare of leaved , but has strands of Spanish Moss. In the right light this tree is fantastic to see. I keep watching and waiting for the right conditions to photograph it. I wanr a foggy morning, . I found a spot that I can set up on without trespassing...So now I keep watch of weather forecasts

Hi Simon. You've inspired my photography for a few years now and have helped me improve my woodland images no end. Most of all though, you've helped me remember how much I loved woodlands as a kid. I'm still honing my skills but watching your videos helps keep me motivated to do better. I've just discovered a new woodland just fifteen miles away in the next valley across from home here in South Wales - guess where I'm going to be for the next couple of weeks ! Love the images here.
