I can't express how incredibly meaningful, moving, and nourishing these hilarious and simple rambles -that start with smoking advice and end in reflections on life and its struggles- are proving to be, so I won't even try and just settle for saying thank you. Its balm to the soul, and damn fun to boot, so please keep up the good work...
Really like the combo of JP and pipe smoking. The point of sacrifice is on point ;) Becoming comfortable with being uncomfortable..a little..every day. Abstain from instant gratification. For me right now it's going to bed in time (around 9-9.30 pm) and get out of bed at 5 am, take a walk, a cup of coffee..and the day has started in a good way. After work a well deserved bowl of Rattray's Tower Bridge.
I've heard the technique you're talking about "massaging the smoke" where you alternate gentle draws and puffs sort of sending the smoke back and forth in the pipe but never taking a hard draw. Since you were trying to find a good phrase for what you're talking about I figured that would be a good one. Muttnchop Piper has a video that's similar talking about the 'breath method' although his video is more about breathing through your nose, I think the ideas are similar in being gentle and coaxing the bowl rather than smothering it with heavy draws; your video is definitely more geared towards new smokers of course. If you haven't seen his video on it I'd recommend it although its likely you have :)
I like your videos, with the exception of the choppy editing. Feels like a Max Headroom episode. That being said, great videos about pipe smoking. As a 10 year veteran of pipe smoking, I still enjoy watching videos about tips for new pipe smokers and self improvement.
Really good to see you again Jason! You are a very good speaker. Quick with wit and a thorough thinker. Glad to see you are on the pipes again or at least you are making videos with them. I always chuckle when you start a pipe with "the flame thrower" hahahah Firstly...it works probably too well, but yeh it works. Of course where there's heat there's burning ...so you just have to "drive that thang carefully" hahahaha But you do you Sir! : )I think I may need to order that book. Sounds interesting. Well weather is getting colder here (Hampshire UK). I find I look forward to pipe smoking more in the colder seasons. Keep Well! All the best Jason UK (I too was blessed with that awesome name : )
Don't make me laugh while smoking my pipe! Ashes everywhere! lol. Also I love how you started things out as a tutorial and ended up giving great life lessons! I'm so happy I discovered this channel.
I use torch lighter too because Im an outdoor person and its always windy in here, nah it wont burn your pipe as long as you dont dip the flame, and also be accurate where you point the flame.
I call this method "agitation" I've seen some people do this similar method with a French press to move the hot water thru the grounds, back and forth. They called it "agitation" and we're pretty much doing the same thing with a pipe
Regards from Australia and thanks for your content. Its an extremely expensive pastime here in Oz at the moment. I recently purchased 50g of tobacco and it cost me $178, which is ridiculous. I have to make the most of every smoking session. I'm starting to wonder how cigarette smokers manage to pay for them each day at $75 a pack.
Is that $178 Aus dollars? That's still almost $120 US. That's highway robbery. I don't understand how they can justify that when you can get a 50g tin of top quality tobacco in the US for $12 or less
Great video. I have been smoking a pipe, on and off since I was 15. The best tobacco I have ever smoked came from the Tobak Shak out of Eagan MN. The tobacco was called Eclair.

Stumbbeled into your videos looking at pipes to put my tobacco in. I just started growing. Would my weed pipes not work as well for tobacco is my question.
It'll get way too hot and break of burn your fingers. It'll also get clogged super quick with the oils from the tobacco. There's a reason why briar is king for tobacco smoking.

Pipes without politics please, love your content otherwise. This guy you reference, JP, if you read his wikipedia page as I just did, there are so many of his core beliefs that have easily been proven wrong. Just yes or no point blank. But what you talk about in the video, the exert from his book, is spot on, your example about inadequacies and weaknesses is undeniable.
@@dudeduder2006 you’re right, despite the hostility with which you said it. I was just providing feedback from a viewer. You’ll notice much of my comment was in agreement with him but you didn’t mention that.
Dude, finally I understand how to draw my pipe. I'm a ex cigarette smoker and was puffing like it was my last smoke. Thank you

Really enjoying these videos and glad your back on here and covering this book and all things pipe smoking! Keep up the good work!
The only mistake is listening to you instead of Mutton Chop Piper.
But Mutton Chop advices are too complicated and hurt my brain so I came back here.
Great tip on reviving the flame and on the book. I need to pick it up.

So, I have recently got into pipe making. If I were to send you one, would you give me an honest review as to how it performs?

How do I control my slobber from going down the stem and how often do I change the pipe filter

I have tried to visit your discord and website and they are not working. Is it just me?

Can't Hurt Me by David Goggins is a book that's changed my life. I read it again not long ago, and I don't read very much.
