Talking to yourself is one of the best techniques you can do to accelerate your way to fluency. I constantly did this when learning Spanish. And attaching meaning/images to words I was learning. And also learning words in context. We’re on the same page brother. This is the natural way of learning a language. Deliberate, strategic practice.

When I'm back in Mexico with my wife's family, I find tequila helps--It breaks the translation machinery in your head and forces you to relax into the language you have already acquired. Needless to say, too much will have the opposite effect and you may just end up making an ass of yourself. Great post Rocky.

I did an interview with myself using a deep voice as the interviewer and a higher voice as the interviewee. I played it back and made a couple more. Played them back and was pretty pleased. Yes! Talk to yourself because it’s great practice. Ask yourself all kinds of questions and then answer, using the conjunctions and the prepositional phrases to link sentences together. You know, “fillers”. You will have an awesome time doing this exercise and when you do it daily, you can go practice with real natives in their places of business when you go to buy groceries or sports merch, or whatever! It’s fun!

I am then going to make flash cards of each phrase with the translation on back and randomly select them to test myself. I am strong on some but weak on others. I will work on those I struggle with the hardest. Keep on keeping on. I am and have learned a great deal. Great classes.

my spanish learning journey has phases ... my strong point has always been reading and writing in Spanish , then speaking it then all of a sudden got better. Now i’m having to work a lot on my listening in spanish conversation . But then one day my friend from Honduras was voice noting me in only spanish and we do this every day now ... i understood almost everything he said .... and i was amazed and cudnt figure out how this was happening 🤯. i do need to brush up listening in convos with spanish speakers from all different countries tho, as i think i got used to my Honduran friends accent the most.
But it went from minimal in all mentioned aspects and then one day i realised i was just better at these things and my native spanish peers noticed and all mentioned this to me ..... mi español es mejor ahora.
i had my first dream in Spanish a couple weeks ago. That was very strange to me ... Hasn’t happened since , but it’s funny you mentioned this as i didn’t think it meant a lot.
Thanks for your tips on this video . 😊👌🏾

Rocky- you are Rad. I'm so inspired. I speak a bit of Spanish. I'd say I can read and understand more than I can speak. A video like this hits the nail on the head though. I do still constantly find myself doing exactly this. Hearing something in Spanish, translating to english and then trying to figure out how to respond in Spanish. This video helped give me tips to immerse and try to overcome this. I do definitely do one of the step. I only speak to my cat in Spanish, and because I am in a long distance relationship with someone who knows very little english, I find myself speaking to myself in Spanish and practicing things I'd like talk about with him so i can have a decent conversation without using translation apps.

Sounds so obvious when you say it: remember phrases, not words. I think this is what I've been doing wrong, and why it's so hard to speak. Thanks. I translate in my head to speak, but not to listen. I hear in phrases, but learn in individual words. That's a huge difference.

I am working on learning Spanish. I have been at it off and on for a while. Over 4 months ago, I picked it back up and have been studying it daily. I do Duolingo daily but I always turn my phone side ways to listen. I try hard at not translating so there are times I just pick up context clues and get the sentence right. The biggest issue I had was the linking of words. Use to drive me crazy. I then researched and found the rules on linking and dipthongs. After I do my normal studying, I now finish my study off every night listen to you. I also use my Talk Now CD which has a game that times you and score you based on how fast you click on what it says before the screen changes. It was addictive but I can now remember all those words without translating. Keep up the good work.

Ive had a year of Spanish at school and I gotta say we haven't learned much, only the basics for a whole year so I'm challenging myself to learn more Spanish than at school in only the summer vacation since my Spanish teacher ain't that good at teaching spanish tbh

Thank you so much for this video, I am trying very hard to learn spanish fluently. My issue is where I live there is a lot of dialects of spanish ie: Dominica, PR, Mexico , CentralAmerica(Honduras/Ecuador). Where should I start? I have more or less chosen Mexico because it borders here.
Again thank you for the video!

When I do my walks I think in simple sentences IF I’ve learned the vocabulary. I just relearned numbers. I find it fun to see a home address as I pass and say the numbers in my head in Spanish. To some, so what. To me it matters. I’ve been listening to a lot of Spanish speakers online lately. The different accents makes it hard to understand. But I can pick out words. Fluency is great. But it’s not going to come instantly. For instance years ago I helped a girl with directions. She knew no English my Spanish is awful it took me a while to remember some words. She didn’t care. She waited. Was I fluent? No I stumbled. She didn’t care. When I was done I asked her in fluent Spanish if she understood me because I knew those words better. She said yes she did and I understood her. The point is she didn’t care how long it took me. She didn’t care that I kept translating in my head from English to my awful Spanish. She cared that I tried. I think the emphasis on fluency is good but the attempt should be more important. I talk to an AI with Spanish and I’ve learned a lot. When it makes more complex sentences I have to ask what does this mean and it explains and explains the usage as its sentences were too advanced. It doesn’t make me feel awful if I make a mistake. It explains the proper sentence. Fluency is great but if you make a mistake the Spanish speaker won’t care. If you’re not speaking in lightening speed they get it. At least you tried. Fluency will come when it comes. It’s not a race.

I woke up after listening to Spanish phrases in my sleep and remembered “how old are you” in Spanish but I didn’t know what I was saying 😂😂. When I translated it I was shocked lol.

Yeah I can make few sentences in Spanish (español) but not communication yet. I can't roll my r's either. I have been using Duolingo because I have been home the whole time. I live in Ontario, Califoria. There's a lot of Spanish speakers in California. It's just that my family speaks English. That's why it's takimg longer for me to learn Spanish but I'm trying to learn it the best I can.

Hey Edward, honestly I've had this set up for years since I started doing music nearly a decade ago but I have a simple condenser mic that hooks into a m-audio (not sure if they even sell these any more.) I record and edit all my vocals on Pro Tools.

When I talk to someone in Spanish like a greeting, I don’t have to do any translation because I just automatically know what to say, but when they ask how my day was and more complex questions then I have to translate lol.
