Much appreciated fellas! Thank u for the love. Im a fan of the channel. U both squat more than me so mad respect to u both. Cheers and keep up to good work.
The most Ivan has squatted was 205kg, he did it a month or so ago. I think based on how he moves with 180 he has a bit more, probably 210 on a good day, but we're in a rough patch right now so we'll see how long that takes
It's been so long since my friend has been to the gym... He's gone back to calling it the James. Another excellent videos, loving the new sign, looking forward to the new merch whenever it comes.
Mike has also mentioned that he shoots his hips out because it’s better for his back which he injured before. He usually doesn’t recommend people do that.
When you guys talked about Ivan's squat, you mentioned his foot position. I have very similar a similar stance to his because if I try to go even 1" wider, I feel pinching in both hips and I can no longer squat to depth. Do you guys think that his stance might be a morphological limitation rather than a technical one? If you do think it could be morphological, is there anything you would do with an athlete in order to attempt to widen the stance? Cheers!
It happens the same to me! (but I need to point my feet a bit more to the sides). If I separate my legs more, I can't go deep anymore. It's all about how our femours attach into our hip sockets
Like PolGZ said, anteversion/retroversion, watch this for a simple test by Squat University ua-cam.com/video/ubdIGnX2Hfs/v-deo.html&ab_channel=SquatUniversity
Look up squat university find the right stance. There’ll be two or three videos that mainly talk about this, and its just your anatomy. Your femurs might be attached to your hip at a more forward position so widening them would cause that pinch. But they give more details to find your optimal stance. I think what they pointed out with Ivan might be because his knees push wider in the middle of the squat so he might benefit from standing a bit wider, but yeah itd depend on his anatomy
I think the best squat for building strength is mark rippetoes starting strength squat. It feels so much better and got me stronger than any other style.
Learned everything I know about training from listening to hours and hours of revive stronger podcasts with Mike monologueing. Love his sense of humor and passion towards training. Glad to see him make an appearance here.
As a 6’2 guy who tried to squat every day like 5 years ago and experimented with a narrow stance, watching Ivan’s squat takes me back to those good old days of decent strength but incredible low back pain
I recall Mike Israetel said somewhere that he injured his back once and that's why he squats with the arched back, because that makes him more safe and comfortable, and that he wouldn't suggest someone else to do what he does by default. I also remember him saying that he squats with arms like that because he's just way too jacked for his arms to fit normally, I actually think he says you should try to have your arms as close to your shoulders as your physique allows. Yet he gets high praise from you guys, so I suppose it's not hurting his style points much.
I'd love to see a video specifically about that hybrid high bar position for taller lifters. I'm 6'4 and my squat form has always been a pain to constantly have to adjust.
@@Wayf4rer haha yeah okay dude. Even if you get lucky in game 7 in the next series, good fucking luck against Colorado. They are gonna 4-1 your team soo hard. They are just another one hit wonder like all other previous Stanley cup winners.
I also do the “hybrid high bar” squat, just moving the bar down my back very slightly massively improved my mechanics. Worth a try if you’re relatively tall for your class (you can see recent versus old examples on my channel, watch how much more forward I can keep my knees now).
Just for general question regarding what you refer to as "taller lifters". What would that be, I know its a dumb question, but are you a taller lifter if your 6.0 feet (183cm)?
Love the content fellas. Huge fan from the U.S. I've been sort of switching between low and high bar squats just because I enjoy both. You guys have ATG squat tips available?

Ivan has such a beautiful squat
What exercises would you recommend to improve hand position and lessen that you reference during Matt’s squat?

Ivan Djuric getting all the love!! He deserves it for all the motivation he puts out there.

Great video. You should take a look at Damien Pezzuti if you haven't, it's awesome to watch him squat.
awesome vid! maybe by next time I can make the front squat list 😅

It's funny cause most folks here are just here for IVAN

Ivan is absolutely built to squat. He can atg squat with a narrow stance thanks to his Slavic hip sockets
I've never heard of that and I'm Croatian - and my default mobility was rubbish.
Actually, he simply has great ankle mobility, but if you squat every day that's going to happen.
@@Braxant Thats bc Croatians chill on the beach or walk up mountains - you guys dont squat infront of stores with a bottle of vodka…balkans=\=slavs

You should react to Clarence Kennedy’s squats. His 661 pause squat is still something I frequently come back to.
Wait till u see the 673
Check out damien pezzuti. John haack of course
damien pezzuti has a fantastic squat
yes he does.
doesnt R.Dingle's seem to be hyperextended and basically just powerlifting 'depth' ... the number chaser types...
Ivan Jerick :)
Ryan and I squat nearly identically. I think I might be a touch more narrow, but other than that, we are comparable form-wise.
Question guys: Is that depth on the first squat ok for competition or is it a bit high? does not seem 90º angle on the video. Great video
Just my thought
Agreed, I thought it was weird they were saying it was perfect when it didn't look to be to depth.
Just for general question regarding what you refer to as "taller lifters". What would that be, I know its a dumb question, but are you a taller lifter if your 6.0 feet (183cm)?
Pretty sure they said in the video taller than 6' so I would say you count as taller, but the length of your femurs is probably more important
Depends on the leverages
2:56 to high maybe? I mean compared to Mikes squat his ass is in the clouds ...
Yeah was nowhere near depth
Ryan's squat is just plain high. Not just from a competitive POV but also from an engagement POV.
