MRS V...had to tell you that my soup and spinach noodles were a BIG SUCCESS!!!! my first ever venture in making my own noodles....hubby usually doesn't say too much about my dehydrated veg soups. but tonight he said it was a big improvement....I believe I was not using enough liquid per veg before, so I wanted to thank you for the lesson in noodles, and for the amount of lliquid....It doesn't seem like much, but when you work so hard at dehydrating stuff and only getting a "well, its better than starving" before and tonight a "HONEY, this is really great soup!!!" It made all the work worth it!!! thank you so much=)
I normally don't comment on your videos. I'm usually too busy taking notes. But I have to say, I just love you. I love the way you and Volfie are together. I love that your kitchen seems like it would be a great place to hang out. I love your no-nonsense method of making the most delicious food. (I have a weakness for anything cooked in chicken stock. That soup made my mouth water). Any time I need information, I always double check with your channel, and follow your example. Thanks for your wonderful videos and everything you share. Love from Iowa.
Nothing in the world is more comforting that a good bowl of soup in chilly/cold weather. That puts the 'C' in comfort food. Nice warm bread and hot soup. Doesn't get any better than that. If my beloved hubby begins showing signs of a cold I am in the kitchen making homemade chicken soup. It is not an old wives tale, it works! And it tastes good too! Thanks for sharing, sweet lady.
That is why I start soup the first sign of chill in the air..onions, garlic and chives ( especially organic) all have NATURAL antibiotic properties and chicken broth too..so I try and beat the cold to the punch! Now it is soup once or twice a week for the rest of the winter!
Wow, Wow, Wow! First chapter: I have spent the whole evening trying to compare and contrast dehydrators because I decided I would finally take the plunge and do less canning and begin to dehydrate. I plan to start with peppers (yes I am still getting buckets of peppers), apples and pears, then venison jerky...Following the seasons. Oh, and eggs to get us through our ladies' "vacation/down time". By next spring, I hope to be comfortable enough to dehydrate some of each of the veggies coming in from my garden. Next chapter: I watched your carrot dehydration video and then stumbled onto your interview from last year with Brad and Tommy (Homestead Nation). Third chapter: during the interview video, it hit me... "Well, Sharon, after you get all this dehydrated food, then how are you going to use it?" Then I replied to myself "I guess I better start learning how to bring it back, and measurements and ratios and stuff! Duh!" Final chapter: I saw I had a new video from you, and what do you know, it is about using dehydrated foods in soup! That's a wonderful start! I am just giddy over all of this! Thank you so much for all of your videos. I never fail to learn something! Now I need to rewatch it and take notes this time, as I often do... Oh yeah, and order the dehydrator. You're the best! Thanks a bunch! PS. Watch for the sequel to this story... Due out next Spring/Summer. :)
Bev, Yum, another winner, this looks so good! Am up late again still binge watching your older videos & learning so much. It's been over 20 years since I did dehydrating & so many new recipes from back then. Wish you had an Amazon store, I've read so many comments of people buying the Nesco after watching you. Glad soup season is almost here, I eat it 7 days a week in winter. I do read each & every comment, there's always extra things to learn from your fan base. Now off to find the powdered squash.Thank you for sharing video! God bless. 🥰
Now that's one good looking bowl of soup. And with buttered bread to sop up the broth? Fabulous! Loved seeing your new stove in the background too. Love you!!
You've just given me even more of a reason to dehydrate everything, that soup is probably 10 times healthier for you than any other because of all those vegies packed in there! Great Job Bev! Thanks so much for posting these amazing videos.
Well there you go! Just got in a Cosori dehydrator yesterday to supplement our old one lunger round one, times being what they are. Mostly for our bountious tomaters. But for a test I'm going to liberate some frozen mixed veggies afterwhile from the freezer. Then it came to me. I know all about dehydrating...but zero about eating. And here you are just in the nick of time. I'm going to save your vid twice, here and in Pocket, as you go into amounts vs liquid. And looks like mebbe I now have a new use for our squash that always goes to waste. Thanks a heap and a gob! GREAT video! Norm
You are amazing!!! I made a butternut squash soup yesterday in the crock pot with some of our dehydrated tomatoes! Will serve today sometime......now everyone will want to know, including me, how you make the stock!! Thanks so much for all you do....I'm learning everyday!!
HOwie and I dispatched and canned and froze some chickens..the ones I partsed up I kept the backs, necks and wing tips and dropped them in the pressure canner with a carrot, and onion, a bay leaf..a TBS of salt, 7 peppercorns and a gallon of water and pressure cooked it for 90 minutes..then I strained it into the stock pot...I told you that in the video ( I think) lol
Fantastic video! I love using my dehydrated veg during the winter. Celery is a great one to dehydrate as it spoils quickly & this way there's no waste. Winter meals are approaching!
YUMMY looking soup! it's amazeing how convenient having home preserved foods is! My plan over the winter is to fill my camper with lots and lots of dehydrated things so we could go camping anytime we want and I'd never have to worry about having food ready to go. I love the idea of squash powder. That must give an excellent flavor. I'll be making some of that too. Thanks for the idea.
thanks for this. more videos with dehydrated stuff pls. I am a recipe type of cook. this has so helped. now that it is cooling off, my dehydrator will be working again. 😄
Awesome lady. Never thought about squash powder might have to try. My grandmothers favorite chicken piece was the neck. She'd say don't waste today what you'd wish you'd have tomorrow.
You could dehydrate broccoli and make broccoli cheese soup with your dehydrated cheese powder, dried milk, dried chicken broth, and the dried broccoli! Couldn't ask for anything easier! Love your videos, Bev! You're my inspiration! Thanks for posting! Take care and God bless!
Although an older video perfect timing for me! Thanks! Fairly new to dehydrating but have been doing lots the last few wks. and now down with a flu bug delighted to try some dehydrated stuff with chicken, also! Yum!😁💖
You are Right...My Pumpkin powder makes the Best pies...Off to Dry some sweet corn this morning !!! I Love my Dried Stash ! I even made some green bean powder !
Well looks like I have to start dehydrating veggies, lol. This looks like such a great way to have a quick n' yummy meal. Have a wood stove and will be drying in it as we don't have the power to use a dehydrator off grid. All the best!
Soup looks yummy good!! Loving the weather changing. Canned mandarin oranges today, they were to expensive to feed to the chickens, and the kids had their fill. Currently some leftover dinner zucchini is drying to go into the rainy day soup jar.
Do home dehydrated veggies reconstitute better than commercial ones? Whenever I've used dried soup mix, the veg never gets soft, no matter how long I cook it, at best it's a pretty tasteless chewy chip.
Yes they do re-hydrate well. Mushrooms are never going to be the same. They remain chewy, but, oh well, the flavor remains the same. Just adds some tooth to the meal.
Looks fabulous!!! never thought of dried squash. Is it only good for soups? My arthritic knee is driving me crazy with pain, so standing and cooking is not s pleasure anymore. Crock pot cooking is what I'm doing when I can. next week temps will be cooler and this soup is on the menu. I just don't have squash powder. (yet). I will make some in the future. Having a total knee replacement in early November. Maybe after recouping I can cook again.
Yesterday I borrowed my friends pasta maker and was successful in making some noodles. The problem I ran into was that when I was putting it through the machine starting at setting 6 or seven holes would break through the pasta sheets. What was I doing wrong? Thank youl
Why would I dehydrate cabbage??? I love your videos. You teach us younger generations a lot. I made a mistake as a youngster. I should have always asked my German grandma/pa.. about the receipe. Teach us how to make stuff of what you have in your pantry. Ibstarted writing them down. HellonCanada from Utah/USA.
I love my slow cooker, especially in Autumn / fall season, I love pumpkin and squash, but if you under cook them they can be a nightmare, but in a slow cooker, no problem.... I think alot of ppl freak out at the thought of using dehydrated foods, because it never looks the right amount , Thanks for the vid Hun......x
Bev I just started Dehydrating veggies. Thank you so much for your video. Question when you opened your jars of dehydrated veggies did you reseal them?
That looks fantastic Barbara I really have to start dehydrating food I have done a Huge surplus of Tomatoes some years ago and they where brilliant they made great sun Dried Tomatoes I also used to do Silverbeet ( Swiss Chard) I would crumble up the dried leaves and it was excellent in soups Curries Stews etc and fantastic for hiding it from Kids who don't like their vegies Do you have a dehydrator or has Mr V mde up a cabnet to do it for you ?
Great job Miss Bev, looked good after it was cooked. I'll have to admit that the gel in the pot certainly didn't before you heated it up! Haha! 🌾 Merry meet 🌿
Love your videos! Could you tell us how long you cooked this in the crock pot, and if you use any general guidelines for using the crockpot for dehydrated foods? Thank You Very Much!!
Wow this soup turned out beautifully. I haven't dehydrated very much this year as last year my two dehydrated were going all of the time. You might say I became the "DHYDRATED POWDER QUEEN"! My husband was so impressed about what I was doing he too wanted his own dehydrator. It actually became pretty funny as he really got into it as well. I'm waiting for Cayenne Peppers to turn red. I used every last one of my dehydrated Cayenne Peppers in my spicy crunchy dill and bread and butter pickles. After I saw you using the spinach in your beautiful noodles I started thinking about using dehydrated powders. Maybe one could incorporate the powdered veggies along with the flour to make the noodles less of a carb which would be amazingly healthy for anyone who may have diabetes. I have kale, tomato, Hubbard Squash, Pumpkin, and a host of other squash and peppers. I do have to admit that all of this came about from me watching you demonstrate what was possible and I just went crazy. A 20 lb. Hubbard Squash shrank to a mere quart of powder which allowed me to have all of this preserved food in a small space. I labored on cutting this monster in half and laugh when I think about it. Granted it was a lot of work but well worth it. You are and have been my preservative guru and I am extremely happy to share this with you and others who might just be watching you. When I retired three years ago, my own personal gifts to me to save money and give me the tools I needed in order to do something I love was a brand new 5 burner gas stove with a double oven. Additionally I bought a brand new refrigerator, and a brand new All American Canner. I had to replace my stove because I could see all the way through the bottom of my electric stove and some of the solid elements weren't working very well. After working for 40 years I felt I deserved something that worked and would facilitate my love of gardening and preserving food. I am sharing this because I am so happy and thrilled for your new appliances. My old canner which I hadn't used for a couple of decades came out of storage and I took it to the County Home Extension Agency. I had replaced the rubber seal which I knew needed to be replaced but the safety valve was another question I had. Well as I suspected that safety valve needed to be replaced. It just happened that on my cookbook shelves in my kitchen I kept every pamphlet that has ever come with any appliance I have purchase and still had. Sure enough I found that booklet about my very well used canner. When I opened it up, on the front pages was a diagram for that Presto Pressure Cooker with the part numbers for each and every part of that cooker. In those days there wasn't a computer to have been able to order parts. Using the computer and Google Search I found "RED HILL PARTS" FOR ALL CANNERS AND A LOT OF OTHER APPLIANCES". I consider this information an EDUCATIONAL Experience for all people who might have an older canner that you wish to reclaim. I ordered the piece which was less than the postage cost. I named my old canner Sally as I would have name a little girl Sally. Instead we have 3 of the best boys ever and now 2 adorable grandsons both under 14 months. However, my new All American Canner can hold 14 quarts along with Miss Sally who sputters with 7 jars. Alas, some days we're rocking and rolling with additional speed. I love it when I'm canning lima beans, dry beans, and green beans. Thank you again for all of the inspirations you have given to me as a returning canner/gardener...alas the last has ended and now we search for those amazing gardeners here in the Mid-West who garden on a grand scale. We call these adventures excursions and we love to get away and see the country side. Love to you an yours!
I thought about dehydrating cauliflower..it makes a good base flour...when dehydrating cayenne..if you go to powder it for seasoning..BE VERY CAREFUL WHEN GRINDING IT..grind it..leaving the lid on..tamp it down..then let it SETTLE before you remove the lid..that powder is STRONG and can choke you if you breathe it in so be careful!
@@OurHalfAcreHomestead cayenne powder can jump start your heart. I can not remember the Doctor's name but he would have heart attack drink water with cayenne powder. Saved many heart attack victims that way. And I can say it will really jout your heart. Yeah dummie me had to try it.
beverly, whts the best dehydrator that i can buy if money was not an issue. i hv bn wanting one fr a long time now. but o hv to order from Amazon UK coz ur voltage in the US is diff from ours here in Singapore . i hv not found any decent dehydators here. people here hv no idea wht this is coz we get food all year round. but i just simply love the idea of dehydrating! coz I hate wastage.
Soup canning question! Loved this video, hood timing someone just gave me there old dehydrator. Anyway, if your pressure canning soup and 1/2 of the broth leaked out, what most likely did I do wrong?
With dehydrated Veggies, can you show how to make a vegetable soup with no meat or meat stock. I am a vegetarian and I have a hard time finding vegetable soup without any kind of meat stock. thanks
i always do veg soup without any meat. here in Asia they hv fosh powder seasoning. sometimes i put some of that. other times i just enjoy the sweetness from the vegs. add some pumpkins. they are nice and sweet. and i use lots of fried onions. really nice.
There is nothing better in the world than a good homemade bowl of soup. Your chicken stock looked gorgeous Bev, was that to do with the quality of your birds or the quantity you used? Even though I only ever buy Free Range, both eggs and bird I rarely use a whole chicken (being alone) I save the carcasses in the freezer until I have 3 or 4 but have never managed to get stock that jellied. Have you ever made Watercress soup? It is Divine!
I used The backs and necks and wing tips of fresh chickens and pressure cooked them with a carrot, onion, a few pepper corns a tsp of salt and a bay leaf..strained it and let it cool in the fridge!
Do you think the extra wing tips factored in the formation of gelatin or is it more to do with using fresh vs cooked bones? Apart from your superior birds, I make my stock in the same way.
I love soup! and I love making it from my dehydrated food storage! I never thought to add squash or tomato powder! that would be a wonderful way to incorporate more veggies for the kids! ages 16 and 17 still at home, and the think they don't need to eat their veggies! ha! mama's got a surprise for their butts! I power it, and put it into EVERYTHING! BAHAHAHA!
Smart lady! Briar used to get so TIRED of my soups..and would complain every time I made a pot..especially since I wouldn't let him eat anything else if that was what I put on the table..NOW? an adult living in an apartment? What does he buy? Fancy canned soups..because he MISSES MINE! lol
lol, Destiny (my 19 yr old) got engaged and they bought a mobile home, they both work 40+ hrs in a local factory, so they hit me up for my dehydrated goodies, because soups and stews are their go to dinner for those 10 hr work days... everything in the crock pot in the morning, and they come home to a good healthy dinner... all they have to do is make some biscuits or some garlicky bread to go with it, or toss in some noodles! she used to belly ache every time I made soup, now she respects the soup!
the reason a lot want to see this sort of thing is back packing and camping light weight food so dried chicken base would have been in order as water has all the weight we get the water from a stream where we camp and add all dried foods to it
Hi there!!! I love your videos and the passion you have for working with dehydrated ingredients~! Have you thought about making packaged meals with the dry veggies? An example on the top of my head would be chicken soup. You can throw in some gelatin stock or dehydrated stock powder in those packages. *I don't know if you can/have worked with dehydrating chicken meat* Lots of potential with the stuff you can do, you can even ground up those dehydrated veggies mix them with spices and can be used for dry spice rubs for barbecues or seasoning mixes to sauces and / or food~! :D If you don't mind can you post a link of the Dehydrators you use? ~Many thanks and greetings from the Philippines~

Im sorry Beverly I wrote that at 2am this morning hands where working brain was asleep Lol do you make Biltong (jerky) as well?
Yummy
Great job Miss Bev, looked good after it was cooked. I'll have to admit that the gel in the pot certainly didn't before you heated it up! Haha!
🌾 Merry meet 🌿
Gelled Broth means TONS of nutrition!

How long do I cook the soup got my veggies out and ready, using crockpot and on high
Once it is simmering hot in the crock turn it down to low and let it simmer all day!
OurHalfAcreHomestead THANK YOU
YEAH, soup season!! I'm putting a stew in the crockpot this morning :)
chicken and rice tonight..because I am canning applesauce!
what do u use the dehydrated potatoes for
You can rehydrate them and use them for fried potatoes or scalloped potatoes. I dehydrate hash browns too when potatoes are on sale.
Thanks Honey!
Love your videos! Could you tell us how long you cooked this in the crock pot, and if you use any general guidelines for using the crockpot for dehydrated foods? Thank You Very Much!!
1&1/2 cups of broth for every 1/4 cup of dehydrated vegetables. one tsp to one tbs of dried seasonings. slow cook on low all day!
Everyone praises the excalibur...but I LOVe my Nescoe american harvest
Thank you dear
yummy
Thank you very much I've have learned so much from you!
Did he say you'd never know it was wrinkled up ? great way to describe dehydrated stuff like prunes and grapes lol Great share thank you :)
LMAO! you are right!
Ummm, is it a stretch to say that Howie is well cared for? Your connection to your husband is admirable.
after 26 years that connection is like conjoined twins!
Soup canning question! Loved this video, hood timing someone just gave me there old dehydrator.
Anyway, if your pressure canning soup and 1/2 of the broth leaked out, what most likely did I do wrong?
either over filled it..or did not debubble enough..but as long as the lids sealed you're ok!
you are so awesome! i really enjoy your videos...:)
Not Awesome honey...just me!
:)
Apart from your superior birds, I make my stock in the same way.
love soups
once or twice a week from here on out until spring!
OurHalfAcreHomestead
Can I get adopted? Im about your age, but I'll work hard! For food and laughs....?
if we ever win the mega millions..we might just set up a community lol
OurHalfAcreHomestead
Might just hold you to that.... cheers for another brilliant recipe... cant wait for the next
just found your channel I'm hooked!! whats the better wattage for a dehydrator seen 500 600 700 and more I think your a rock★★★★★!
I believe mine is 500..but higher is better because you can always turn them down!
YUMMO! I'm hungry lol 💝
OH SO GOOD no a drop left after Volfie got seconds!
Fancy canned soups..because he MISSES MINE! lol
lol, Destiny (my 19 yr old) got engaged and they bought a mobile home, they both work 40+ hrs in a local factory, so they hit me up for my dehydrated goodies, because soups and stews are their go to dinner for those 10 hr work days... everything in the crock pot in the morning, and they come home to a good healthy dinner... all they have to do is make some biscuits or some garlicky bread to go with it, or toss in some noodles! she used to belly ache every time I made soup, now she respects the soup!
the reason a lot want to see this sort of thing is back packing and camping light weight food so dried chicken base would have been in order as water has all the weight we get the water from a stream where we camp and add all dried foods to it
omg!! how they BULKED as they rehydrated! just WOW
Hi there!!! I love your videos and the passion you have for working with dehydrated ingredients~! Have you thought about making packaged meals with the dry veggies? An example on the top of my head would be chicken soup. You can throw in some gelatin stock or dehydrated stock powder in those packages. *I don't know if you can/have worked with dehydrating chicken meat*
Lots of potential with the stuff you can do, you can even ground up those dehydrated veggies mix them with spices and can be used for dry spice rubs for barbecues or seasoning mixes to sauces and / or food~! :D
If you don't mind can you post a link of the Dehydrators you use?
~Many thanks and greetings from the Philippines~
