They call it buttermilk because that was what was left after they churn the butter . I loved buttermilk fresh churned with tiny bits of butter in it . ❤️👵🏻 Inge

If you shake it up for about 60 seconds it turns to butter.. that's why it's called buttermilk because it's actually butter Tammy

Can you make this recipe with thighs and legs? I don't like chicken breast that much.

FYI, Buttermilk is the byproduct of making butter. Once the butter forms from shaking the cream, it is paddled or pushed together and removed. The remaining liquid is buttermilk, but very different in taste and texture from commercial buttermilk. When I was a child many many years ago, you would actually see what looked liked butter in the milk and it was much thicker. Thanks for sharing this recipe, I will try it.

Absolutely, frmoak2atl I can only imagine the smell and taste must be so different compared to the buttermilk manufactured now. But, I find it weird it’s still called buttermilk considering they now use low-fat milk with bacteria cultures. Thanks u so much for the insight I really appreciate u taking the time to watch and comment.😃 Btw Happy Holidays!!!😘😘😘

You are so right about buttermilk. Whether with lemon juice and milk or even with sour cream, buttermilk is not buttery.

Hey Tammy which do you prefer more, this buttermilk roast chicken or the Cajun butter roast chicken?
Want to try both but wondering which to start with.
