- For aller første gang har Northug tapt en spurt! Legkov bl nr 3, Cologna 4. Northug sa i etterkant at han hadde dårlige spor, at det var løst og mye dårligere glid der. Hvem vet, kanskje det var det som gjorde det?

Northug was in bad shape here but still secured 2nd place. Amazing.
The leader of the race from FIS said after the race that Northug´s track was not good enough prepared, and he took "selfcritism"(I do not now the correct word for what I meant, but hope you understand). So say what you want, but he had bader tracks. But Vylezhanin sprinted well

A few days later Vylegzhanin was suspended for high blood values. It's not unlikely that he had pretty high blood values when he beat Northug this time and that it had a lot to do with it. That and the fact that Northug was in bad shape had a lot to do with it.
Learn to differentiate between high natural hemoglobin with doping.

agree with l4rry, northug is faster in topspeed, but vylegzhanin outsmarted him here.

first time i see northug losing a sprint in a long race :D deep snow or not, if he would have gotten in front of the russian before the home straight he could have taken the better track, but he didn't. So, too bad.

@FrantaKocourek If Vylegzhanin or Legkov or Cologna or Hellner had gone the same route, and Northug in the middle track, would you still complain? I don't know how the tracks were, I wasn't there. If that is the case, fine, but really, Northug then made the mistake of going to the outside. It wouldn't have been easy, but again, the Russians played it just about perfectly. He had to go the long way around. The Norwegians always complain if they don't win. Remember the Lillehammer relay?
@FrantaKocourek Sure...whatever..I was just commenting on the commentator. He said 'where are you Petter Northug, when the two Russians attacked and made a gap. I don't care that he went into the deep snow! That's all part of racing. It's nobody elses problem, he made a mistake and was beaten fair and square, no need to make excuses!

Had Petters track been better prepared I think he would have won. He even beat Vylegzhanin in CLASSIC individual start, he was like 10 m behind with 150 m left and still he won....Btw it's impossible to sprint in 2nd gear vs another skiier (Vylegzhanin) who is in 3rd gear.
@FrantaKocourek I don't really think it's fair for everyone else to do work and a guy just takes advantage at the end. It doesn't matter to me if he wins the next 200 races he enters, his tactics are cowardly. Imagine you are doing a project in school, you are in a group of 4-6 students, and each of you has a task or part he/she needs to do. One of the students does very little to contribute. Eventually another member takes the task, and the group ends up with a good grade as does the student.

I felt like smashing my tv to pieces when petter failed to beat Vylezhanin. Clearly Petter is not in top shape yet, he can do better than this. Not too suprising though that V. finally managed to win since he performed well at Liberec 2009 50 km. He nearly got past Northug at one point a few hundred meters from the finish line.

@davd1986 Your analogy makes no sense. Here the student gets 2nd place, and many times first place, following the same strategy. Keyword - strategy and tactics. Very important in ski racing as in bicycle racing - think of the Tour de France. It may not matter to you if he wins 200 races - well, that's a good thing you are not the coach, and your opinion really doesn't matter ;)
