Excellent episode. I really hope you have more Sally episodes from this era where serious, thought-provoking issues were discussed. It was roughly a year or so after this that her show kind of went the "trash TV" route with out-of-control teens going to boot camp or jail and people screaming at each other. In 1994, she was still doing Donahue-style topics. As for the story itself, it's a tragedy. However, I get what Jeff's cousin was saying about Dwayne's father being out of line with constantly bringing up Jeff's father. What the hell does a father selling phony stocks have to do with his son shooting his friend?
And Jeff’s Cousin was talking the person that was paralyzed. And the person that got shot and got paralyzed his name is Dwayne. And Dwayne and his Family needs to be treated with respect.
Dwayne had been leaving because of Jeff's attitude when Jeff called him back upstairs and shot him. There are some kids that are still just very immature at 13. Reactive, not thinking things through, not realistic. I wonder if Jeff just got mad and shot Dwayne, not really thinking through just how bad, how serious and potentially deadly that could be. And then his mind formed the story or the idea that it had been an accident. Which basically goes back to what Dwayne's Father had said - not right mentally.
How could he do that to his best friend? Thanks to him Dwayne is paralyzed from the neck down and he might not walk again. What he did was wrong and I would never forgive someone for doing that to me because I’d rather be dead than have to be confined to a wheelchair. When your confined to a wheelchair you don’t have a normal life
