    I'd just like to say Thank You - I've been fascinated by special effects & the artists that create them since I was young, & your interviews with these talented artisans are as informative as each new issue of Cinefex was back in the day. Thanks again.

    In 74 I was 8. I saw Dark Star when I was 12. I LOVE that movie,but at 12 I knew it was a beach ball with feet. That was GREAT!!!

    I remember seeing that model in the display case right next to the front door at Bob's Rancho Park Hobbies in the late-70s, with a little card, "Model by Greg Jein". First time I ever heard of Mr. Jein.

      I used to buy models there all the time. Later the shop moved and changed its name to The Hobby Place. There aren't many brick-and-mortar hobby shops left nowadays. The only one still in business within driving distance is House of Hobbies in Burbank.

    This is the kind of " you can't find out about this unless you ask the few people who were there " info that I love.

    Oh, man! After all that time you pull this out of your hat! One of my favourite movies; I can quote nearly every line. It was the 'Rocky Horror Picture Show' of me and my friends. We would watch that movie over and over and do all the lines. Thanks - once again!

    First time I saw this was around ’91, I was entering puberty and ended up with a bad case of both acne and insomnia. (The acne went away… eventually) So I spent a lot of nights watching TV in my room; very late-night/early-morning stuff where I got introduced to weird, out-of-the-box stuff like “Phase IV” and “Dark Star”.

    A wonderfully clever movie that never let its 'very' limited budget and resources get in the way of some clever sci-fi ideas, imagery and tropes.. Id loved to have seen O'Bannon interviewed, who I gather spoke his mind. Great piece none the less, Berton..

      Thanks! Yes, it would have been cool to interview O´Bannon. Especially how he added many details to Greg Jein´s miniature, and supervised the effects. Along with co-directing with John Carpenter.

    Hello! Only just discovered this channel - it's incredible. I'm embarking on making a scale model short film with 3D printed drone puppets - all snowy environments. I'd love to see your documentary but I can't find it anywhere online - how can I purchase it? Thanks, Stuart

      Thanks! I made a DVD years ago, but that was a teaser for this UA-cam channel. I have uploaded all the interviews here. About 15-20 hours long! More videos will be added. It's an ongoing project.

    Now this UA-cam channel is just showing off.
    BTW, How did they do that elevator scene?

    • @piercefilm
      @piercefilm  3 роки тому +4

      Clever camera angles. The set was built on the floor, and O´Bannon had to flop around on the floor pretending to be hanging on.

    • @steffenbach3580
      @steffenbach3580 3 роки тому +3

      The answer is fairly simple: shot it horizontally. It was in a Hallway and the underside of the elevator was rigged on a small forklift that went back and forth. O'Bannon was strapped onto a board which was slimmer than his back, so you wouldn't see it during filming. This scene was added after the film went from a small student film to being distributed by a studio. They needed some extra minutes to turn it into a real feature film, so the whole alien plot line was added.

    Why not just release the whole movie on UA-cam rather than just piecemealing this stuff? Doubt your making any ad revenue of 3min clips...and yes I love these videos would enjoy seeing the whole thing.

    • @piercefilm
      @piercefilm  3 роки тому +4

      I'm not making any money off these clips. They are just here for inspiration and entertainment as an archive. There is no whole movie other than the DVD I sold on amazon that was a teaser for this channel. I am editing all this footage as I go. Uploading a 12+ hour film would be crazy
