S Note is far superior to Samsung Note. Original Snote from 2012 was good out the gate. Not sure why they are dumbing it down with Samsung Notes. S Note was probably the best Note taking App built for Android. Such a shame they seem to be phasing it out.
Most items in the original Note were better, S Planner being the great example, pleasing colours and tabs. Samsung caved in when reviewers complained about 'Bloatware'. Now when Apple or Android copy Samsung's refinements the same reviewers coo how wonderful it all is!
Agree , i m still using s note in my note 9 and tab s3 but some features are not available as there is no snote on galaxy store
Action memo was removed and that sucked

SNote is becoming worse at each update. There's no more page index, vídeo inserting (it doesn't work), easy charts, etc
best description ever! I have been holding off on upgrading my note 5 because I thought S note was gone forever. I take copious field notes and have many folders. Now I can safely upgrade to the Note 8 or 9 and still have my S note!!!

one thing I hope that the s note has is the option for us to choose whether we want to add pages to the note or to just have unlimited scrolling (like the one on Samsung note) if they offer that, I'd definitely be using the s note more often! great video, very informative!

+LaVa Lady In the collections tab open the settings and select Manage Categories. Then select a category and the delete option will pop at the top. Is that what you are looking for?

I just brought a galaxy note 5 off ebay just for the amazing snote features. I was going to get the note 10, but hate Samsung notes, it lack so many features compared to snote. I'll just stick to my galaxy s8 as my main phone and note 5 as my productive phone. These phone companies are going backwards and giving us less for more money!

20 minutes of tutorial. Headline is what should you use. Not what can you do with apps. I can do that without losing 20 minutes, by just downloading both apps and try them

I'm so glad I saw this video... I thought S Note was gone.. I use my tablet with S-Pen and couldn't use it since it only has S Notes and wouldn't sync my notes from tablet to phone which made my tablet useless. But now I can.!!
THANK YOU for this comparison!! I just purchased the Galaxy Note 8 and was a bit confused about Samsung Notes. When I transferred all of my data from my Note 4 to the new Note 8, S Note was replaced by Samsung Note -- and all of my S Note files had automatically been transferred over. However, I was unhappy with the way the Samsung Note displayed all of my Files -- and also didn't like the lines/grids on the screen. So I went online to find out how to make Samsung Note more like the S Note on my Note 4, and that's when I found your video -- and learned that S Note was still available and had to be downloaded. This is a huge relief!!! And I agree with you 100% -- S Note is a far better app for my regular meeting notes, and Samsung Note will likely be limited to my off-screen, instant memos when the pen is removed. (By the way, that IS a cool feature -- if we could change the settings so that the off-screen notes were saved in S Note THAT would be very cool!!!) Thank you, again!!! Your video was a huge help!!

My note 3 features still better than note 8.S note on note 3 is much better than note 8.
There have actually been two different S Note apps, they're different apps but with the same name. One has the brown icon that's used on the original Note, Note 2 phones and Note 8.0 and first gen Note 10.1 tablets. The other one has a red icon which is on Note 3 onwards
I was hoping Easy Chart would be available. If they want us to be productive, these are the features need, not sparkling text messages. The Notes are meant to be productive tools.

I miss Snote, I miss anontation on the pictures and having my hand written note all on the same page. I hate that everything is in its own block. Samsung your going backwards with your apps!
Where the h... did "the real" s-note go? The crippled "samsung notes" comes with no evernote integration, no photo note, no easy chart, no action memo, no idea sketch... So if this is what progress and putting productivity features first look like (instead, we got more "stickers" in the camera app... wtf...), then hey Samsung, please also make the price less "productive". And even the current version of s-note does not offer many of those functions anymore. I hope some software fix will bring us the real s-note with the mentioned features back.

Great video, needed more Action Memo. There's an Action Memo shortcut you can install from the playstore that lets you choose it from the floating SPen menu. Action notes can live on the screen, etc. They're fantastic. But both great apps. Here's to hoping they finally bring back the best features like Photo Note etc.

Thank you for your video. Samsung Notes isn’t bad, but I would have to say Snote is the Best app. However, I am referring to an older version that includes Action Memo. Like others, I’m still hoping Samsung listens to their customers, like they did in bringing back the SD card, and brings the original Snote App back with Action Memo. I already know you can still download it, but it’s still missing things like Photo Note, Easy Charts, and other things. I guess it’s still better than nothing. While Samsung Notes is OK, I still just don’t understand how Samsung thinks it’s better than the original Snote. Action Memo is so unique and really a difference maker compared to anything other Android phones or Apple has. I urge them to rethink this and please bring it back officially. I think it would be a huge competitive advantage, especially if they advertise it like crazy (even just half as much as they are advertising Live Messages). I know most companies, especially tech, are looking for that competitive advantage, and Samsung you have two in your Note series. You just need to show them off. In case you’re unaware of the two, it’s the Spen and the original Snote with Action Memo. Unless you have used the Note series, most people including me before I tried the Note 2, have no idea what the Spen is. They think it’s just a stylus to draw and write with. I’m not trying to say it’s not, but it’s so much more. Yet, you don’t do anything to educate the consumer. Instead you advertise “Live Messages” like on every other commercial. While it’s a cool feature, it’s FAR from really showcasing what you have. You want to sell these phones for these high MSRPs (still don’t know who’s actually paying full price), you might have the only product that may actually warrant it. Yet you need to show it off. Every person, including Apple fans, except one that I’ve shown my Note phones bought them and they love them. Every response including the one iPhone fan that didn’t buy it all were exactly the same. “They had absolutely no idea that the Spen can do that”, even that one person that didn’t, who by the way is still considering it. So I would bring back the original Snote with Action Memo and all of its extensions. If you want alternate commercials with live messages (if you must). I feel you would surprise a lot of people and increase your sales tremendously. I wouldn’t even be surprised if some of your current Note owners aren’t fully aware of the capabilities that their phone does. I know when I got my first Note I was discovering new things constantly. I’m not saying there won’t be some iPhone fans who just want to stay in the IOS system. However, I think you’ll convert a lot of other Android users. If you want to start making up for the poor way you handled the Note 7 fiasco, bringing the original Snote with Action Memo back officially would be a huge leap in my books! Maybe the more people who post in different places they want this back, they’ll consider it. I would say maybe it’s just me, but yet I see it all over the place. I’ve actually also witnessed a couple of people who are not interested in buying the Note 8 because the original Snote with Action Memo isn’t available. What made them bring back the SD card? We should follow the exact same steps to see if we can get them to do it with this app as well. It’s even easier this time because it’s just software. I need to plaster this everywhere and like I said earlier maybe if we all do it, they’ll give it back.

I def miss S notes, the ability to edit images was huge for me. If I could make S note the default so that off-screen memo (s note) works then I would go back to the Note Series.

You missed the formula creator where if you write out math notation it will convert it to nice clean block text.

It's in S Note, after you download the extra packages like you did in the video, then write a formula, lasso your formula and the little context menu that pops up has an option "Transform" and under that is "Formula".

In case anyone is having a problem importing S-Note files from the older device to GN8, you can instead transfer all the files via Wi-Fi Direct. Do the following after you have installed S-Note app:
1. Turn on Wi-Fi Direct on both devices.
2. Open an S-Note category fron your old device, select all files, share them as S-note file via Wi-Fi Direct.
3. Once received in your GN8, go to files- -documents-downloads.
4. Select all the downloaded S-Note files, choose Move function, click on internal memory and then select Snote folder. S-Note app will open.
5. Name the category and click Done.
6. Do the same with all the categories.
The files will open as S-note files so you can edit them.
Wouldn't you love a NOTE 8 Plus?
I am having a hard time to move from Note 8 (2013) to the Note 8 (2017)! Since you cannot draw on the edges, the screen is reduced to about 5´´. Its difficult to take notes/draw on such small screen. Is it just me?
I would love a new Note 8.0. Honestly, Samsung if overdue for a new 8 inch tablet with an S-Pen...I was hoping the Tab S3 would have an 8 inch size with S-Pen support, but that was never released.
And if they implement bezel-less on a 7 inch display, that would be quite a comfortable "note-pad" that also fits in many pockets.

I don't understand why Samsung is getting rid of the main features that makes the note, a NOTE!! I'm literally holding on to my note 5 until it dies. I REFUSE to be without s-note & action memo.
ive tried watching this video six times now, and at about the two minute mark my brain glazes over and yr voice becomes one long discernable tone that, in the words of Captain Picard, goes On and On and On. I dont think ive been this bored by someones voice since that show Win Ben Steins Money[ Plz fix this, as it is quite informative.

Hi Brett, On Note 9, I installed S-Note 5.2.06.8/4.2.83 (latest thru Galaxy Apps), the "Action Memo" seems to be missing. Any older action memo from my backup when I open in S-Note, for any updates to it, it prompts me to convert and add to "Samsung notes".
Is Action Memo really removed now? Or any other app/extension requires to be installed to use "Action memo"?
Action Memo was removed when they went to Samsung Notes as the main app. Under Categories in S Note I am still seeing my notes. There is a way to get it back but you need to download multiple files and it isn't fully supported.

Having watched the video, I've decided to switch back from Samsung Notes to S-Note.
One problem: I can't find a way to import my files from one to the other. I've synced Samsung Notes to my Samsung account but the files are not available to import to S-Note...
Do the two apps not create compatible file formats?
+Mark Young It looks like only S Note syncs to Samsung Notes and not the other way around. I couldn't find any way to export the Samsung note other than exporting each not to a picture and then importing that into S Note.

Excellent video Brett.. Very informative! I was thinking of buying a Note 8. However, I mainly use Evernote. Does the S pen work with Evernote? Alternatively, can I export S notes to Evernote??
Great video man! Only thing that I'd add as a minor thing (though I do use it for one particular note) is that Samsung Notes allows you to lock notes with your fingerprint, while S Note only allows you to lock notes with a password.
I really wish that Samsung would have just improved S Note, because I'm not a huge fan of Samsung Notes. Samsung Notes does write much better to me and I do like that the notes move vertically instead of horizontal, but I use almost all the features that S Note has that Samsung Notes lacks on a regular basis. The organization (or lack there of) of Samsung Notes is awful... I use the S Note widget that shows all of your notes, which I have color coordinated, and with the memos as my quick notes that I look at all throughout the day. Without those organizational tools, Samsung Notes is really a pain.
Thank you good overview. One thing though , The record sketch feature is cool, but also worthless, because you cannot export the recorded sketch in any playable format such as animated gift or MP4., Autodesk smart sketch let you record and export and is much better for that reason
Hey Brett Just got My note 8 and was s using samsung notes. is there any was to take all my notes over to S note? | tried Samsung Cloud, Copy Paste also tried to share but to can't get it to work. cheer's
+Mark Kelly Here is the only solution I found and it is not very pretty. In Samsung Notes you have to print your note and Print to PDF. Then save it to your phone. In main S Note settings click import PDF. Find that not and then it adds it to S Note. Not great but it works. I will keep looking for other options.
Tech With Brett Unfortunately it turns your note into pages and cuts through the image. Found it almost unusable. It's the main reason I still use S Note.
I hope you can help me out. I recently switched from an iPhone 7+. One of things I loved was the ability for my notes to be shared access all of my Apple devices. Are either one of these apps capable of doing that?

S Note is by far the more superior note taking app. Action Memo, Evernote functionality, more note templates, ect. I'd rather they just combine the two.
MIND BLOWN!!!! This is my first Note device being the Note8. I kept reading tons of user complaints about S Note being jacked up and replaced by Samsung Notes . Ok, I have a Note 4 with s-notes and want to go to a Note 8. My s-note on my Note 4 allows sorting by files or categories. The file sorting is what I need. Can the Note 8 s-notes version allow this?
Handwriting toolbar is damn terrible. It automaticaly scale my words - one time word appear too huge, another too small !!! Damn!

Never mind, solved the problem. You have to use the Samsung keyboard to get the automatic handwriting to text to work with S-Note or Samsung Notes.
Is there a way to add new pages in Samsung Notes - in S Note, there is a "+" at the bottom of the page, but I do not see in any options in Samsung Notes.

Awesome video Brett. I have the Note 8 and it says I have the latest version installed but I don't have the voice or image options at the top. Any ideas why?
I cannot edit My S note texts from my old phone "S6" on to my S9. S9 note sees it as an image. Is their away to fix this problem?
My screen-off memos only appear in Samsung Notes; not in S Notes.

Tech With Brett I ended up downloading an old version of S Note and was able to get action memo that way.

i actually had action memo pop up when i double clicked the screen during a call taken while the screen was off. after i'd realized what had happened, i tried it again while the screen was on, and a samasung note popped up. so it sort of works.

In either application can individual notes be listed alphabetically (within a category or collection)?

Could you guys answer an important question for me. I'm thinking about buying this phone, but one important thing for me is if there's an app where you can write using cursive and then have an app that will automatically change that to print in Word format or proper text format...is there such an app or does the Note come with something like that or no? That kind of is a deal breaker for me because I would love to take notes in cursive....

If it's pretty good then I'm definitely getting this phone over the iPhone, I can draw, I can take notes. This is so much better! Hands down, no competition. Sweeeeet.
Yes it can, it just depends on how well it can read your cursive.
