This band got me through the later '70's and into the '80's when other bands were changing too much or breaking up. Golden Earring Rocks....and this is one of their coolest songs.
Just found this, Thx for posting! Always been a Golden Earring fan but had never heard this before. They can all say what they want but this was the beginning of Heavy Metal, Metal, Progressive whatever you want to call it. These guys were jammin’ their asses off.
stumbled across an album called "Moontan" back in Durban in the late 70's. liked the cover. couldn't believe the music. Golden Earring.....still TOTALLY solid.
A really good band that did not realize enough success in the US. i used to play several of their tunes in my act not exactly covers but more suited to my style which it more "Grateful Deadish."
Holy life is ook zo;n nummer. Bedankt Talleke.
Funny thing: we were listening to Earring before the Radar Love days, in Zimbabwe of all places. Seriously good band: right up there with Focus at the time.
"She Flies On Strange Wings" Lonely is the night without you Just as lonely as the shepherd without sheep And where flies the falcon, In the high sweet air Without hunting this Sprane Valleys deer She wears softness as a gown She spreads magic all around Her feathers still untouched She takes but nothing and she gives so much She flies on strange wings She flies on strange winds She brings strange things She flies on strange wings She takes off when she desires Silence grows on her lips She can bring you so much higher She spreads love on all her trips, yeah She flies on strange wings She flies on strange winds She brings strange things She flies on strange wings Woke up this morning And this feeling came to my head To fly with her from sky to sky 'Cause my mind seemed to be dead So I floated up towards her On my mutilated wings But all the blackness sings against me now It's the lady of the strange wings She wears softness as a gown She spreads magic all around Her feathers still untouched She takes but nothing and she gives so much She flies on strange...........
Simpul doch doeltreffund A1 in the Djukebox of The Hagues bands, gewoonweg glories guitar en een drum werk met sax en sterkte taxt gezang en daar aan toegevoegd synthgeluid, staat als een huis! 😂 ✌️ 🙏 👍
Ya know....MTV used to have a program in the mid 80's called Closet Classics.....they played some beat club stuff like Deep Purple "Highway Star", Eagles,Queen .....and they played "Twilight Zone" in reg rotation when it came out.....but they couldn't dig a little deeper and play this on Closet Classics???? American music taste is pitiful....and I'm American!
Yep. American radio is just noise in between the ads. We couldn't hear the Allmans, Earring, or Atomic Rooster but, we got 'Terry Jacks, The Poppy Family & Olivia Newton-John. Fucking sad
I am in TOTAL "Agreement", and I'm American too. I lived in Germany during my late teens, and I felt that Europe was much more "In Tune" to good music than the USA, I think the "Music Industry" in America, is mostly to blame for this, and it STILL is
@MrJedZeppelin Only what they sing doesnt synchronize with their mouth moves. (hope this is correct english haha) But this is due to youtube. On my own pc everything is well synchronized !
They play the long version of She flies on strange wings ;) So yes they are playing it and nothing else. Do you mean they playback or something? If thats what your're thinking than I must say you are wrong;) Its live :)
Ofcourse not live at all!!! If you pay some more attention at the background singing of George, then it shows it's all playback. Who cares anyhow? They had to make a nice clip. And that they did, didn't they?! Beautiful people, (but that's another song from ... yes, Melanie) beautiful clip.
+Mörgan Hamiltön this video was shot on the roof of the Amsterdam Hilton hotel d.d. 8 september 1971.Leadsinger / saxophone Barry Hay, drums Cesar Zuiderwijk, lead guitar George Kooymans and bass Rinus Gerritsen.
Rinus Gerritsen (did I spell it correctly ?) on bass. He's good...BUT...there's only one John Entwistle, and I'm glad to say I saw him play "live" before he died.
He is actually half British half Indian.Born in India and educated at a British boarding school in Holland.Naturalized as a Dutch citizen when he was in his 20s.
Hay was born in Faizabad, India to a Dutch Jewish[2] mother, Sofia Maria née Sluijter (b. 1922 in Makassar), and a Scottish commissioned officer, Philip Aubrey Hay (1923-1980). He moved to the Netherlands at the age of eight to live with his mother. He lived in Amsterdam and later in The Hague, attending an English boarding school. After graduating from secondary school, he took courses at the Royal Academy of Art, The Hague. In the summer of 1967, he joined the Golden Earrings, as they were then called, replacing Frans Krassenburg. Hay created the cover art for some of Golden Earring's albums.
Be strong George Kooymans. I wish you the best. Best song by Golden Earring EVER.
Golden Earring is still one of the greatest Rock & Roll groups around these days.
true
Rock & Roll the better music on the world.
57 years strong
If you are still alive, this music is coloured by your youth. That's all. You aged sentimental senile farts
These days? They're fossiles, making some more money
Criminally underrated band.
This band got me through the later '70's and into the '80's when other bands were changing too much or breaking up. Golden Earring Rocks....and this is one of their coolest songs.
The bass player is really talented.
Steve Harris of Iron Maiden has claimed him as an influence.
Such a great underrated band. Most stations play Radar Love and Bullet. This is KILLER!
Just found this, Thx for posting! Always been a Golden Earring fan but had never heard this before. They can all say what they want but this was the beginning of Heavy Metal, Metal, Progressive whatever you want to call it. These guys were jammin’ their asses off.
I grew up in Australia and came over to The Netherlands when I was seventeen.
Had never heard of The Golden Earring. However, now I’m a fan!!!!
stumbled across an album called "Moontan" back in Durban in the late 70's. liked the cover. couldn't believe the music. Golden Earring.....still TOTALLY solid.
I discovered this song when I lived in Rotterdam 2002-2004. Great stuff! Heel goed!
I love this song... Golden Earring kick ass...
Awesome! Golden Earring one of the best ever!

That bass!
Danelectro Longhorn!
great performance !
Great song, Up The Earring !
Such a distinctive voice and guitar, couldn't be anyone else really...then that saxophone seals the deal!
Bertus Borgers on the saxophone, check him out. Still going strong, and still gigging with the Golden Earring.
Holy life is ook zo;n nummer.
Bedankt Talleke.
Fabulous song
Funny thing: we were listening to Earring before the Radar Love days, in Zimbabwe of all places. Seriously good band: right up there with Focus at the time.
Great song
This is good s**t! Saw them when I was about 15 years old in Columbus Ohio. Ted Nugent was headlining. My first rock concert!
Best band in the Netherlands. And I am proud to be Dutch.
En long version :)

a damn good tune! i'm quite impressed ;-)

The Earrings Rocks, Dutch Proud!
In de top 3 van de Earrings songs.
I used to think "Moontan" was a reaction to Roxy Music but seeing this makes me wonder if Bryan Ferry and crew were checking these guys out.
best number ever
George Kooyman Underated guitarist
This is so f**king awesome and yet they look so uncomfortable on camera. The 70s. Awesome.
i love it !
Rock and F&$king roll!!!

3:55 is a trip
"She Flies On Strange Wings"
Lonely is the night without you
Just as lonely as the shepherd without sheep
And where flies the falcon,
In the high sweet air
Without hunting this Sprane Valleys deer
She wears softness as a gown
She spreads magic all around
Her feathers still untouched
She takes but nothing and she gives so much
She flies on strange wings
She flies on strange winds
She brings strange things
She flies on strange wings
She takes off when she desires
Silence grows on her lips
She can bring you so much higher
She spreads love on all her trips, yeah
She flies on strange wings
She flies on strange winds
She brings strange things
She flies on strange wings
Woke up this morning
And this feeling came to my head
To fly with her from sky to sky
'Cause my mind seemed to be dead
So I floated up towards her
On my mutilated wings
But all the blackness sings against me now
It's the lady of the strange wings
She wears softness as a gown
She spreads magic all around
Her feathers still untouched
She takes but nothing and she gives so much
She flies on strange...........
Seven Tears, best early Golden Earring (pre-Moontan).
Important song for the Golen Earring, bravi
Robert Jan Stips (off the Nits and Supersister) on the Organ!! Yeahh!!
In the clip you see Rinus Gerritsen playing the organ but it's actually Robert playing that on the album
Nee hoor, dat is Rinus Gerritsen.
+Mattijs van Dulkenraad Nope he joined on the "switch" album which is a couple years later.
You are right
Simpul doch doeltreffund A1 in the Djukebox of The Hagues bands, gewoonweg glories guitar en een drum werk met sax en sterkte taxt gezang en daar aan toegevoegd synthgeluid, staat als een huis! 😂 ✌️ 🙏 👍
My 2nd favorite GE song, after Twilight Zone.

Me too
Well than I m mistaken then. I really thought it was live. I've got the video from someone else btw and I dl it to youtube. Still its a great video:)
Super!!!!!!
Well... still love you!
wow
Ya know....MTV used to have a program in the mid 80's called Closet Classics.....they played some beat club stuff like Deep Purple "Highway Star", Eagles,Queen .....and they played "Twilight Zone" in reg rotation when it came out.....but they couldn't dig a little deeper and play this on Closet Classics????
American music taste is pitiful....and I'm American!
MTV didnt play what people wanted to hear, they played what the recording industry told them to play.
Beat club stuff? Im not sure you ever listened to any of those bands as they dont do "beat" music nor are they club acts.
I lived in Germany during my late teens, and I felt that Europe was much more "In Tune" to good music than the USA,
I think the "Music Industry" in America, is mostly to blame for this, and it STILL is
dutch proud
*pride
hoi hoi uit Den Plaag :)
The pink dress lady came downstairs to meet Sandy Coast, but they were long gone. So she decided to go rooftop and meet Golden Earrings instead
Toen waren ze op ze best

She can brings you so much lower on your bankaccount !!
Albert Bavré Lol good one!!
I fly on strange wings
@MrJedZeppelin Only what they sing doesnt synchronize with their mouth moves. (hope this is correct english haha) But this is due to youtube. On my own pc everything is well synchronized !
It must freak them out to go back watch this video.
Dutch treat
😂❤🎉😅✌️🙏
And that's why she's a mystery I think. And how about U? ✌️ 🙏
One Two three four:rakke takke takke taa ....
@Talleke123 They are not really playing that song in this video, are they?
Anyone know more about this video? Year? Where it was shot etc? Cast etc?
+Mörgan Hamiltön this video was shot on the roof of the Amsterdam Hilton hotel d.d. 8 september 1971.Leadsinger / saxophone Barry Hay, drums Cesar Zuiderwijk, lead guitar George Kooymans and bass Rinus Gerritsen.
@@renebies727 Thanks man. You know of any other interesting facts? Been listening to this stuff since I was a kid in the 90s.
What apartment complex are they on top of?
I ask because it looks EXACTLY like the one in MISSION:IMPOSSIBLE's episode "The Double Circle" (1969)
Amsterdam Hilton
Sprong daar Herman Brood vanaf daar?
John Entwistle on bass?
Rinus Gerritsen (did I spell it correctly ?) on bass. He's good...BUT...there's only one John Entwistle, and I'm glad to say I saw him play "live" before he died.
Yeah john akkkerman is a good guitarist.
Love the song and the music, too bad the sound isn't in sync with the video
:)
john miller its just as bad here in the UK now its all chav music now
The engagement of the
se kind of groups at the time was total bull- shit!
this song should have been the hit-not radar love..- i guess it was to long for air play..
I remember the single version being faded out just after the first sax solo.
OLD and fogotten song, let it be this way for ever!!
Are you buried ????
Your nuts, this isnt live and will never be.
