- Environmental Holdings Group of Charlotte is underway with the demolition of the shuttered Eastland Mall in east Charlotte. Interior and exterior walls are coming down and workers separated materials for recycling. About 30,000 tons of concrete and brick will be recycled on site. About 11, 000 tons of steel will also be recycled. EHG is working with local businesses to salvage as much materials from the mall as possible. Davie Hinshaw - dhinshaw@charlotteobserver.com
I really miss this mall. I hate that they tore it down... so many good childhood memories.
Lots of good memories at Eastland Mall man. Saw lots of movies there. Great arcade back in the 80's. Food court always full.
I was in tears watching this great mall being torn down. When I was a child it was so fun going there...
+Jickster 1918 ~~ I know exactly what you mean, I used to hang out there with friends, every weekend we were there, in fact, I can remember the very first thing I ever bought at this mall, it was a cassette tape (Def Leppard to be exact) and had a hellava lot of fun in this mall. Then when I grew up, graduated from High School, my (now ex) husband and I went to the Kay's Jewelers there in that very mall and we picked out my engagement ring. But, some of the best times I ever had as a teenager was spent in this mall. It was heart breaking to see it torn down ):
Feels just like yesterday!
Man I miss east land mall I had a lot of good times there !!!!
So sad thugs destroyed the mall I grew up going to. They eventually destroy everything like locusts.
I moved to Charlotte in 2006. Got to see Eastland shortly before it was closed. Was also where I met the first girl I dated in Charlotte.
maybe we can see one of the Philip Morris factory in Concord that is getting demolished this year
Looked like a nice mall.
It truly was.
