I remember as a kid I wasn't allowed to sing this song, but we would wait until our Dad wasn't around.... we just sing word for word just like the our father prayer that we had to say every night before bed ... lol ❤❤❤❤👍👍
Memories....still laughing. Sneaking downstairs to the party to dance when I’m supposed to be sleep. 😁😁😁😁 Big tune for those who know the real roots and culture. One love
Wow i was 18 when i first heard this song im 56 now i thought it was rude so i made sure i never played it if my mum could hear, but listening to it now it sounds really tame to the records they have today ,,,,brings back great memories thanks for uploading.
Lord have mercy!!!! I have not heard this for so many years!!!!! Went to Champion College in Kingston, and we use to sing this with friends! Such memories!!!!! Thumbs up!!!!!
This is the real bubbling song, when this song started to play, you must have to get a woman fe dance with. Those was the good old days when dance was nice, you hardly hear these music.
my dad is jamaican and he put this song on for me when i was little...i loved it...i just remembered it today.....and i still love it...i love the good old days
Funny song I was kid in the 60s and I remember hearing it but it was done by another artist then ,not reggae style, it's kind of like the bang bang lu lu song , there are the parts where there is or would be the naughty words but they're omitted and bang bang lu lu is substituted
Benny Bell really needed a bridge in this song. It has one irksome key change, one joke, and if anything it's songwriting quality right up there with 'Because I Got High'. Great song nonetheless. Really good for pissing off parents and roommates.
It is important that in those days, the term daughter (dawta) refers to a man's girlfriend. I think this was a very popular term for girlfriend in the 70s and 80s, if my memory serves me correctly. Excellent tune. As they say these days, excellent trune (chune)! LOL. It's very interesting how words and terms have different meanings overtime. I am a writer. I write in one of my poems, titled, "Emotions" "I am longing to be jolly and gay." In today's context, anyone who listened to my poem, would think that I was saying that I wanted to express my gayness. That is to say, meaning a sexual attraction to a man. That was not my point at all. I MUST hasten to state, however, that I have no qualms with my gay friends, less this be misconstrued. Great song! The first time I danced to this tune was at a dance in Seaford Town (German Town), Westmoreland, Jamaica. By the way, my Jamaican friends, you may check out my work at: joshuaspencer.ca/
Ohh man, I haven't heard this one in 23 years. Been looking for it ever since the cassette I had it on went walkabout in 1986 or so. Major thanks for putting it on here! One of the all-time greatest "rude" songs... of course, changing it from the original waltz time (3/4) to reggae (4/4) gives him the chance to drag out the "shhhhh..." even longer. I love it.
ua-cam.com/video/1kmPwBSYY3M/v-deo.html back in the dayz tuneeee Byron Lees version (link attached) is a bit more up tempo. Both versions are the shh****aving cream lol
i love the song this came out when i was a kid. when i was a kid my family use to get together a play cards well i guess i was the only one who knew this song so i started to sing it in front of the whole family. the expression on my father's face when he thought i was going to cuss was priceless when i said shaving cream instead the whole family craked up. I probaly was about 5-8 years old. this was in the 70's
I remembering this song from when I was little, they used to play it at my Daycare all the time when I was 5 or 6. And I always loved this song. And then one day they stopped playing it. I asked them why. They said someone complained. I didn't understand at the time shaving cream was a euphemism, it was just catchy...hahahaha!
Skye Jackson LOL, no.....Just like some Americans used to call their gf's "old lady", in Jamaica Old Lady actually means Mother. Back in the day (around the time this song was done) men would generally call a woman "Dawta..Daughter"

How do you "break off" with your daughter???
Its a term of endearment like saying sweetheart, or a rasta will call his lady princess or queen.

LOL, no.....Just like some Americans used to call their gf's "old lady", in Jamaica Old Lady actually means Mother. Back in the day (around the time this song was done) men would generally call a woman "Dawta..Daughter"
