    I made myself a leather lammelar armor a few years ago, always wearing it with my my archerykit, on vikingfairs. my armor consists of the quirass with biult in tassets and pouldrons, mongolinspired hardleatherhelmet, two kinds of leatherwambraces that also have protection for the upperside of the hand, like samurai, (one with arrmqiuver for arrows and one with a sheet for a throwing knife, leatherlamellar greaves (not unlike the kiev-rus, but out of hardbeltleather). the lammelardesign i use is the archshaped with 8 holes

    You should, save up those leather pieces from punching the holes, and then send them to one of those people on here who makes bowls from i.e. wood shavings or metal shavings and resin. They put in a lathe.

    I have a couple of questions I'd like to ask. Firstly, I know you offer patterns for DIY leather work, but do you do commissions? You may have already answered a question like this, so I do apologize if I'm asking a previously answered question.
    Secondly, as you're a leather worker and make leather armor in several different processes, you seem to the person to ask on this point; is oil boiled leather a thing in armoring? I've seen it mentioned in things like the Dungeons & Dragons Players Handbook, but I wanted to know if that was an actual toughening process in making leather armor.

    • @DarkHorseWorkshop
      @DarkHorseWorkshop  5 років тому

      Never done any oil boiled leather, I think it's unlikely. Water hardened / baked would be the more "period" way to do things.

    I would’ve used double cap rivets. It’s easier and you have less spoilage.

    • @DarkHorseWorkshop
      @DarkHorseWorkshop  5 років тому +1

      Easier is not necessarily better. I'd rather use strong solid rivets for actual armor so it doesn't explode. That said, you can easily use some double cap rivets if that's what you want to do.

      Look up SCA Combat on UA-cam. This will inevitably not only show you combat but suggest other videos of activities in the SCA. You could also search for the Society's web page, which will help you find out what kingdom/shire you are located. There is always contact information on the web page to get in touch with SCAdians in your general area.
