Hi folks, I'm the owner of the trooper in the video. I guess I'll just share some Q&A about the trooper. But feel free to ask me any more questions. :) 1. What's the difference between Gen 1 and Gen 2?: Gen 1 uses a 3.1 liter older diesel engine (4JG2) it's a rotary indirect injection pump similar to the pajero and all Gen 1 are 4 wheel drive (4x4) and some Gen 1 has manual transmissions. All Gen 2/skyroof are only 4x2 and only A/T. And of course for the Gen 2/Skyroof edition there are more luxury touches to the interior (wood panels, beige and brown) and more power amenities while the Gen 1 was just mostly black and grey. But size and dimension wise they are the same. 1. How much are they on the used car market now?: Around 180-350k depending on condition and the Generation. Gen 1 is around 180-250k while The Gen 2 Skyroof edition is around 250-350k. 2. Biggest Issue/reliability?: For Gen 1/4JG2, as far as i know there are none. The engine is bullet-proof as it was still mostly mechanical and not too complicated The only major flaw of the 4JX1 (Gen 2) are the fuel injectors. This was due to bad diesel quality at the time and not too many people change the fuel filters frequently and also are using the incorrect oil weight for the engine. 3. Parts availability, Maintenance cost?: There are still a lot of parts for the trooper for both the 4JG2 and 4JX1 engine. And I would say maintenance parts are cheap. I buy at Walco Banawe, which sells Geniune and replacement Isuzu trooper parts. Besco oil is at 350 pesos/liter and there are 2 oil filters (big/small) that are just cheap. 4. Fuel Consumption?: For Gen 1/4JG2: Some owners have report 5-6 km/L city and 7-10 km/L highway. This is due to the older engine and also Gen 1's are 4x4. For Gen 2/Skyroof. Based from my experience. City driving ranges from 6.5-8 km/L and highway driving is 12-14 km/L. which is great for an SUV with this size/weight and with the 4-speed Auto.
@@nickaa827 Yes I've read about that issue for the US V6 Gas models. So far for my trooper the transmission is still perfectly fine. The previous owner and I are very keen on changing the ATF every 40,000 kilometers so I think that's the main reason I'm not seeing any problems so far with mine.
Noong bata ako eh tuwang tuwang ako sa headlight wipers ng yayaminin naming kamag-anak na may trooper at lc200 na sila ngayon at noong nakasakay ako nabilib ako na may manual at automatic. Hahaaha para pala sa 4wd pala iyon.
4JX1po ang unang CRDi. Yes, it's a bit high maintenance, mas madami sensors kesa sa kd series ng toyota. but performance wise, e mas gusto ko sya kesa sa mga SUVs ngyon, kaya sa mga hindi familiar sa engine na yan, #1 common mistake ay pag lumabag po sa oil viscosity na suggested sa kanya, 5w-30 and 10w-30 lng po dapat jan, ung iba sinasalinan sya ng delo gold.. kaya nagkakanda loko loko ang makina.. pero overall, basta sundin lng po oil requirement nya, wala nman po kyo mgiging problema sa 4JX1. salamat po. nice review btw sir maverick :)

Hindi uubra ang mga "hula hulang mekaniko" sa isang 4jx1. Dapat talaga may knowledge ang gagawa ng 4jx1

Main difference lang sir is yung engine and yung 4x4. Yung bighorn uses a 3.1 liter Direct injection (mechanical) diesel compared sa Skyroof trooper na 3.0L (4x2) CRDI. Mas matapid lang ng konti yung 3.0L kaysa sa 3.1L pero mas reliable/matibay ang 3.1L ng bighorn.

it seems the petrol models in the united states are notorious for blowing transmissions sadly. what's your experience been like?

Yup definitely agree. Ako I stick to only Besco oil for my 4JX1 Trooper. and also palit fuel filter every 15Tkm. :)

check your glow/heater plugs. if replaced na. most likely starter motor or alternator na yan sir.
