The wretched theory was the best one for me, because after chapter 2 (the engineer dying and losing all their technology and using spare ones) they had no good plan. All they did was try to protect a spire and then the FRAUD (wretched) came in and put all his work taking down one base. And that the cockiness from the wretched led to his downfall, mostly stating xenon forces were garbage and were worthless. Engineer had some respect since xenon’s corrupted forces built most of the army.

another interesting thing to note with grim is that he's the only boss in the entire game that can kill/permastun towers. my leading theory is that if grim is canon in the tb verse he's a force of nature, almost like the personification of death. so he could be higher in power than the calamity even. or he is an angel of death that works directly under calamity, carrying out his orders and killing stuff relating to your theory about the wretched simply being a figurehead, I think that can support that is that the wretched died to mark 4. (based off mk4's song lyrics) there's no way a 6m hp boss would die to an 800k hp eradicator. my theory is that the wretched was way weaker before, however died to the mk4, and the awakened cult saw his value and put his soul or what was left of his body into the robot arachnid body. this also supports my idea that most of the awakened army is literally just stolen from other factions. for example, corrupted apex predator, corrupted eradicators, corrupted golden juggernauts, corrupted predators, corrupted villagers, etc. there are almost more corrupted enemies from other factions then enemies actually native to the awakened. this could apply to the wretched also. he wasn't related to the awakened before in any way, however, after dying to the mk4, the awakened saw his value as a mouthpiece, so they corrupted him and put him in the robot body

I have a question, knowing the game takes place in earth and these are definitely humans, are they literally blocky or is that just how they look in game? (Also the tower battles connection fell both awesome and nostalgia baiting at the same time somehow)
I'd imagine since the game doesn't explicitly refer to shit with roblox terms (like studs, or robloxia) that the blocky-ness is just the game's art style, and not their literal anatomy
