  • Fletch travels to Albury/Wodonga for the largest Mopar event in the Southern Hemisphere - The 27th Annual Chryslers on the Murray, run by the Albury/Wodonga Chrysler Club.
Every year the event focuses on a particular model, and in 2019 it's the VE/VF & VG Valiant. Fletch outlines the history of the VE which won 'Car of the Year' when introduced in 1967, followed by the VT in 1969 with the introduction of 2 door Valiant Coupes and models such as the Pacer, Regal 770 and VIP. In 1979 the VG was the last of the square/straight line models, but also heralded the introduction of the new Hemi 245 motor.
First up Fletch spots Phillip with a fully customised VG Valiant beautifully presented in a deep red colour called 'Split Blood' sporting a Hemi 265 with triple webbers. What started out being a small project to a stock standard VG went a little bit crazy and turned into a complete restoration/customisation.
There's something special about barn finds that attracts crowds and Fletch finds two, Mick and his 1982 VG pacer that has been asleep as he puts it for 37 years in a tiny garage. Mick displays the car as he found it in absolutely original condition and intends to keep it that way. Next is Diego with a VE Valiant in similar condition, found abandoned in a paddock.
Not a V series, but one from an earlier period is Arron's 1958 AP2 Valiant Plainsman. The result of a three and a half year, full restoration inside and out and is believed to have been purchased new from right here in Albury by the local Mayor of the time. The car is beautifully finished in Highland Green an original colour with Sherwood Green trim. The vehicle is powered by a Poly V8 engine and features power steering thought to be the first release by Chrysler.
Finally, from the AMC stable is Allan with his 1965 Rambler Ambassador, a full size 2 door luxury model. A very rare vehicle with only 4,900 built of which there are thought to be only 2 in Australia, 1 Hardtop and one Convertible. Even Fletch was caught out on this one.

The 1970 Chrysler Pacer barn-find was an amazing find! 👍🏼 It was my first car, and loved the power of the 245 hemi.

Beautiful build, sir, has a bit of a sleep look but to the astute observer you just know something's going on here. Nice colour too. Overall outstanding. Greetings from Canada.

I remember the first car I ever rode in that had air conditioning was a VG Valiant. I think it was a VIP model. It was early 70’s. Back when it was luxurious to have carpet in a car. That made a lasting impression for me as a child

    Outstanding array of highlights here.
As found examples displayed, my first confirmation of a VG with a 265 fitted -triple Webers no less, and the most stylish looking Rambler I've ever seen. The owners were as interesting as the cars themselves! Just loved it.

Great to see that barn find 1970 Pacer. Dad bought one new in Armidale in 1970 - white, black seats and red carpet. Only difference is it had the standard stripe. Memories.

VC Valiant is my fav. Has the neatest style. I'll have mine in gold with V8 and floor change. The only modifications I'd give it are seat belts, mirrors on both sides and a decent stereo system with speakers to play all those 60's tunes with.

I'm glad I went to the 2020 show, because I'm not sure how 2021 show will pan out.

I have to agree about the 245 Hemi. had one in a Charger backed with a 904 auto, and that engine was an absolute screamer, even though it was stock as a rock. gave many V8's a run for their money. unfortunately rust took its toll on the body and I had to get rid of it. pity, was a great car that I loved.

It was interesting the barn find A88 option Pacer also had stainless steel wheel arch moulds which definitely were not standard on any Pacers.

OMG, is that my old SA reg 1971 VH Regal 770 Hardtop @1:00, 265i t-bar auto? If so it’s looking better than mine in 1978 when I flipped for a 1974 Mazda RX4, which despite its small size used almost as much fuel as the Hardtop, but the RX4 felt quicker and was more fun to drive. I was embarrassed to own the hardtop in 1978, but in 2020 that car just looks great - I’m feeling envious - well done.

I like valiant and Holden's. And in my opinion original or not at all. I have an original ap6 that needs the original metal fixed and painted very genuine unmolested

Ask Fletch. He’s done the opposite on his personal car, And explained it well on his video for Shannon’s.

It's a good event.. but the majority of rt chargers..and pacers are either replicas or rebodies

Plenty of rebodied cars at this event. They should call the show, "Rebodies on the Murray". Lol
