    RCINower 1108 motors with HQ T3x3x3 props are also a really impressive combination for efficiency. It's surprisingly quiet, quite fast if you're running 4S on higher KV, and works well as a durable everyday flyer. It still suffers from the same problem as 'might as well fly a 5" ' for most situations, but it's a smaller, cheaper, and quieter solution for where I fly, and it takes hits like a champion.

    I had 2 mob7s and both the f3 boards went bad. One went bad on 2nd flight. Gyro stopped on other. Bought 2 F4 boards, and both fly like crap. One burnt up early on and the second still runs but it flies like garbage compared to the f4. I’ve tried tons of pids and other settings just flys like crap. Won’t corner, ends up flopping upside down in corners like it’s losing gyro update or something.
    That’s why I’ve stayed away now and venturing towards 2.5 inch. I have a massive droner w the original stuff I put in it and it’s a freaking beast. Been through 2 frames because I just thrash it. All electronics still work fine. Forget how many hours of flight on it, but’s it over 10

    A couple thoughts. With your 3 inch build what if you put the stack in the center and mount the HD board above it but onto the upper plate? The iflight ih3 has that capability and it's awesome. You will have to drill some holes for it to work though.
    Another thought is to check out 1104 5000kv motors for a three inch. I've got a the inch build like that, that weighs 91g with the caddx turtle. And it's on the cusp of flying amazing. It gets prop wash coming out of dives that I'm still tinkering with. It's punch out isn't the Best but it's a hoot to fly and super quiet. I've been flying with a 3s battery and will try a 2s real soon. Just an idea.

    One thing I think brushless whoops succeed at is getting stuck in trees. With ducted props, the props are less likely to get stuck in twigs or leaves. I got a mobula7 stuck in a 40 foot pine tree at the very top, and was able to turtle mode my way down layer by layer.
    Never could happen without those ducts saving me.

  • @jdrissel
    @jdrissel 5 років тому

    I know it kind of misses the point of the 16mm stack... However we all need to know if the issue is the pins or the mounting. Maybe a 20mm adapter that is isolated and then rigidly mount the 16 by 16 to the 20x20 (or 30x30) adapter and see if the pins are reliable. I hope the pins work. It would be awesome to assemble a stack the way we stick R Pi stuff together.

    On the micro its worth remembering that many have been here before. 1104/5-4000kv and 3" bi-blades is a pretty decent setup, rotorx taught us that and not too loud either.
    Much argument about noise on RCgroups pretty much established that rpm is key to noise minimisation. bigger props, more blades, less weight. In general this means the largest flattest pitch bi-blades you can handle to keep motor requirements to a minimum and low KV as battery weight is such a big variable on these things. IMO although the triblades will be quieter than the bi blades all else being equal propping down allows you to motor down too.
    Have you thought about what you could do for aero? The problem with low kv for low noise is obviously the speed but the rpm and pitch is still there for a decent air velocity, maybe a bit of aero could address that.

    • @Kabab
      @Kabab  5 років тому

      aero doesn't do much in the way of noise reduction and on something so small, there isn't much weight left to bother with aero. You'd just be killing performance....same reason I don't like canopies. Improved disk loading properties is the single most effective method of reducing noise.

    • @frasersteen
      @frasersteen 5 років тому

      @@Kabab well yes but aero could help you get higher speed with lower rpm = less noise. Then use the lower kv motors and get the same performance but better efficiency = smaller battery. quiet is easy, it's the performance that is hard, TWR is also easy but add in speed and it's hard.

    Love your glide frame in 3 inch. I actually think if you made a 4 in version of the mini glide with a unibody or light separate arms. It would fill a giant whole in the fpv community allowing for sub 250 gram dji hd builds. Your frame design seems to have very little wasted weight so I think its perfect if you scaled it to 4 inch.

    Here is what I would LOVE to see as the perfect 3" freestyle quad: something like the Glide / Flosstyle, super stiff boomerang arms 3,5 /4mm, arm length 4 inch but running 3" props, slightly stretched X with a shorter body. Height to fit common 3 pcs stacks like Geprc Stable 20a... only 4 standoffs. This would be superlight, efficient with good speed and not too twitchy and would make a 3" fun even in bigger areas. Hello. Thank you for the video. I was wondering if the range of the build in rx could be improved with the right antenna (length). For video reception there is a standard saying so t speek 'use a better antenna'. I have been studying up on the RX antenna lenght and tested the range on a spektrum sattelite klone. It does make quite a lot of difference to have the right antenna. 30.24mm is the length I use. Measured from its mounting/soldering point. Note how ever that the lenght is not the same for every receiver depending on the electronics design of the rx.

    Hi Bob, I bought 5 of your Hyperlight motors to use in my 2-3s toothpick build. Luckily I tested them before building and they are crazy-high Kv - can't use them, don't want them. People are blowing ESCs on 2s and the V1 Crazybees boards too so not convinced the blame is all with HappyModel. Thought you didn't like anything above around 8000Kv so that is what I was expecting.. why is everyone seem to only want to produce bazillion Kv motors in this size? Some of us would love to fly their micros longer w/o double-digit currents that smoke these tiny FETs. Peace.

    Bob, I love the work you have done to date, but I'm questioning how safe or how safe is the perception anyway of a 3inch with a 16x16 stack, even with light 120x or 110x motors is? As you said noise ok, but size mostly is still 3inch and semi imposing, and maybe weight over 100g etc? Shame about the reliability conclusion on the single board option for toothpick, those 16x16 stacks are all heavier obviously, but yes probably 200mW VTX and higher Amp ESCs so I see why you've upped the game to 3inch etc.

    I’m liking bf4. My only 2 5” bf quads at the moment are both emax, the hawk and the 6s buzz. The buzz is doing great on bf 4 especially with the gemfan 51466 props. But I think it does need to be tuned a little better. On the Avan flows it sounds like a d term oscillation. I donno but once I get it good and broke in I’m going to use it to learn bf 4 and really test it against my fl1 quads. I’m about to use Rabix bf 4.0 tune on my hawk 5 and see how that goes. The vids that he’s posted recently are insane how the hawk flys on 4.0. And I’ve got to build a toothpick soon! Love that little guy.

    Now when Betaflight 4.0 is out, can you update your Betaflight tuning tips? Also got a warning about default Yaw D setting in BF 3.5 which can do bad things in BF 4.0 if left as is.
    Any thoughts about ESC EPM Filter in Betaflight 4.0? Seems the ultimate way how to mitigate noise and power consumption. However my knowledge about this is limited with fact that it works only together with BLHeli32 ESC's and I must know motor pole count.

    put the FC card in the right place and not in the back, the weight distribution is very important, and if you have the gyro which is not centered it is normal that it does not work great .. on my side, I I had a lot of changes once turned the FC because the gyro is not centered on at least it is in the central axis! (usb in the back now less partic, but so much better in flight! (c a fc F4 omnibus V3) ..) besides I do not understand why there is no gyro centered on the FC is the minimum .. (in my opinion ..)

    • @Kabab
      @Kabab  5 років тому +1

      Gyro doesn't care where it is as long as it moves with the frame. The acclerometer does care where it is but it still doesn't make enough of a difference for a human to tell unless it's maybe a foot or two off center. We don't use the accelerometer so we don't care about that and it doesn't matter where it goes. Weight distribution is a very important point and you'll hear me talk about that a lot in later videos.
