This is awesome! OMG Laurens Valk contributed to the project!!! He is absolutely legendary!!! He made so many self balancing Segway robots and his blog on robot square is epic! I own pretty much all of his books, and I built almost every robot he ever published instructions for. If you see my message, please tell Laurens Valk that I'm a massive fan!!!
I plan to make this a 3h class for my subject Mechatronics in Vives university college. If you are from around here you can sign up for this course. :-) Maybe I'll make a tutorial video when that lesson is done.
Now we have found how we can make 2 hubs communicate, it should be possible to replace the remote with a smart bluetooth device. That will be one of our next projects. (I have already seen some promissing tests from Nard. 😉 )
Does this remote control solution only work for two hubs of different types (in other words, can you use one Robot Inventor hub to control another Robot Inventor hub?
No, it works with every hub. If you take a good look at the race at the end, you will see that there it are the hubs of the same kind that are connected. But for now all of them run on Spike Prime firmware.
It will be at least two years to fund before it's completely finished, but you will get an opportunity to see it, probably in Summer 2023. It'll be worth the wait!
Oh, and I have one more question: Is there a way to automate this remote control setup, or to make one hub operate another hub without you controlling it yourself? (Like Bluetooth daisy-chaining?)
There is a very detailed explanation of this linking of hubs on Nard's page: hubmodule.readthedocs.io/en/latest/hub2hub/ There are also examples of how this works.
Haha, I'm glad you noticed the configurable tracks 😊, I made them especially for this movie. (But of course will be able to use them at events later.) I needed a track that is forgiving for those who get off the track, but still creates a small obstacle to get back on it. (And that can be built up and down quickly in different shapes + easy to carry around.) So buying them will be a bit difficult. :-) But if you have access to a laser cutter you can very easily make them yourself. I went to the local woodshop to buy 2 white hardboard sheets of 244 x 122 cm (=20 euros), drew some racetrack puzzle pieces and cut them out with the laser cutter in our Vives Maaklab. If you don’t live far away I can make some for you, or I can provide you with my digital laser cut files.

@@Rixin13 hmmm. Not realy. I have a set of working balancers with control+ remotes. But i didn't make the video because a new Spike firmware update broke the communication code. Awesome Dimitri!!!
You are absolutely amazing👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Awesome! your idea always crazy me ^^*
I'd really like to be able to show this off at an Eistedfodd soon. Have you done this using the hub to hub blocks in Mindstorms Robot inventor?
I think it is possible with the Robot Inventor hub2hub blocks. But here i used Nard his python hub2hub communication library.
What is control+ and what program to install on each hub?
That is super cool
Can you make a whole tutorial on how to do the coding
