Very interesting program.
The Bloody Rock was a few houses down from my grandparents house. I’ve always heard the rock was much bigger in the past but people would chip chunks off as a grizzly souvenir, hence the cage protecting it now.
Wonderful, informative video. So nice to see you back!
I grew up along the banks of the susquehanna. From Tioga Center, where my family has been since the 1700"s. My ancestor and namesake was the first man to operate a ferry across the river to Nichols, NY. Our whole area is rich in early American history, most from here drive by monuments everyday and have no idea of its depth. Thank you for shedding some light. 👍
I grew up along the Susquehanna in Binghamton!
Thank you
There were many loyalists living in the Wilkes-Barre area as Connecticut settlers before the Revolution who would fight with Butler's Rangers at Wyoming. They had migrated from the Mohawk Valley, the home of most of the Rangers.
My 4xgreat grandfather, Anderson Dana, was killed in this battle. I only learned about this yesterday. So awful.
Thank you for sharing your family story.
Every year on 3 July I play "St Patrick's Day In The Morning" which supposedly the Patriots marched to that morning. That soil and my veins carry the same blood.
I found that my 5th great grandfather was born in Wyoming Valley PA and his father fleed from this area in 1778 with the family during this massacre. Funny timing being 'indigenous people's day' being the survivors of a British backed attack with the Iroquois.
One of my wife's ancestors lost his two brothers in that massacre. He along with his dad went on to join the Continental Army. His dad was killed and the mom, who had went along with her husband and surviving son ended up going to Gen Washington asking him to release her son. He let him go.
Thank you for sharing your family story!
I just found out today that my Great Great Great Great Grandfather, Jonathan Weeks Jr. was killed here. He was in Hanover Company under Capt. William McKarrchen.
Brandt was savage. He was a friend to one of my Scottish ancestors. His friendship saved my ancestors and family but didn’t save their home or livestock. 🤬
Nepa resident here👍- we have one of George Washington’s 88 body guards during the war in our Scott Two Cemetary, if ya need a guide I’d be happy to help but otherwise you should be able to find it fairly easy. Samuel Callendar is his name
Thank you!
Fascinating how la came upon this particular video. I have been trying to find ancestor Morris Turner (1729-1778) UEL who fought with Butler's Rangers and believed he died in this battle. How can l verify this? Is there a list of names of both sides who died? Ty.😮
I will contact the group that maintains the Wyoming Monument (dedicated to those lost in the battle). They have a list, I think. And will update you here.
If you are still interested in this info, please email me at contact@patriottoursnyc.com, and I will put you in touch with the person who has the list.
As a born and raised Pennsylvanian thank you. Never forget the 40 fort
I was just walking along the Susquehanna River levee in Forty Fort, thinking about the battle there.
It is said that American Artist George Catlin’s mother was captured during the BATTLE OF Wyoming…and her stories peaked his interest in the Native Americans…resulting in his great paintings of the American Indians of the west.
Fascinating. Thank you for sharing it here!
In the battle jacob stanford and other stanfords were killed near their home on rimmel rd. Would you have any information on that?
I can check for you.
@@MrsQHistory thank you. Jacob, Abraham, and I believe 3 other kids. Only abraham escaped. House is still there on rimmel rd
My 6th great grandparents were killed in that massacre.
Thank you for adding your personal story!
We lost Capt Bidlack, Fuller, Denton that I can remember off the top of my head
Were they the stanfords?
@@stephendenton5305 No. They were Johannes "Henrich" Stroop and his wife Anna Mareitje Catharina Spikkerman. I do have a copy of the writing of the incident by Frederick Schermerhorn but it might be too long to post here.
You've completely missed the basis for what happened in the Wyoming with the Pennimite War. There weren't too many tears lost in Pennsylvania over the murders of the Connecticut settlers.
This is not about the Pennimite Wars. Put on your thinking cap.
@MrsQHistory yes it was. The Quakers weren't disappointed in hearing about Connecticut settlers being murdered by the Quaker's former allies.
@@richardoneal1055 That, sir, I am in agreement!
Happy New Year to you.
The patriot tours name is giving me Creepy MAGA vibes..
