My first edc SAK was a black camper and I still keep it handy while working around the house. Love having a saw in my pocket while doing yard work, saves me a trip to shed or workshop if I come across some small pruning jobs while I'm out there. Camper is still my favorite but I see a farmer in my future.
The camper was gifted to me over forty five years ago ! That knife started my SAK collecting back them, and it's a great knife that basically does all you would need? No scissors, but the blades can do the job ! The features on this knife have handled a surprising amount of work in the time I've used it! Not every day but a good deal of pocket time ! It's three layers and hits the sweet spot ? It's a classic spec that dates back to 1902 I believe?
I have both knives and I like them equally for different reasons. The Camper has more tools - an additional small blade (which the Farmer does not have) a corkscrew, tooth pick and tweezers. The small blade is what I miss on the Farmer. The Farmer has an appeal aesthetically and feels stronger but since both will do much the same job for me it is a case of preference on the day as to what I put in my pocket.
Climbing into a truck. My sak Huntsman fell out of my pocket onto the road. A piece of the cellidor scales broke off. I did get them replaced free of charge after an email to Victorinox UK. I now use an alox Wenger sak. I have dropped this a few times on the warehouse floor. It is almost indestructible! I also have the camper. I had this for many years during my (British)army service. I also dropped this and one side of the scales popped off. I did get it back on but had to glue it to make it stay on. I do not want to replace the scales as it battle scared and has sentimental value. I can see now why the soldier has alox scales! I think I will treat myself to a pioneer x for my daily work in the warehouse. It is tough enough for the job :-)
That's a great point. I'm a big fan of alox, for sure... on the other hand, it's cool to change out cellidor scales with different designs/plus scales etc, easier to customize cellidor.. But I have definitely chipped/cracked my fair share of them. I have a red Pioneer X on its way and I can't wait! Thanks for watching, Paul! Cheers!
The corkscrew has more uses than opening wine, plus the 2nd blade has some value as well. See Felix Immler’s channel for more details. Also, the tweezers and toothpick have more value than one might initially see, check out the Dave Canterbury video for some the reasons why they should not be overlooked. Having said that I continue to struggle with which I prefer; the Farmer, the Huntsman, or the Camper. Thank you for this video.
The Camper is my most used SAK type knife though not my favourite. It just keeps doing what it needs to do and in the UK they're cheaper than most traditional Rough Riders so it's not a huge dent in the wallet if they're lost.
I have both and their both great. I purchased the Camper 39 years ago to clear saplings off of my lake property. I purchased the Farmer last year in Orange from the Cutlery Shoppe it was one of there special editions and I purchased it as a collector. I own a Condo in Florida now so a saw is about as necessary as a power mower lol ... Great video. Thanks Dan👍
Nice review and a very hard decision it is indeed. I know, many of us do have more than one, or two, or three, or four, or five or even 20 Vics and one day it must be the huntsman, one day the great combo of a Bantam Alox with a Classic and sometimes you just need an Outrider. But between these two .. I carried the Farmer and then it was Armageddon ... two splinters in the hands of my son ... no f.. tweezers on the Alox. Found one Classic in the purse of my wife ... tweezers on board and they saved the day. So, its Camper-Time for me when outdoors.
Love my Farmer but I don't go anywhere without my Huntsman. I love the mantra "two is one, one is none" Thanks for sharing. All the best from Scotland. Garry
The only color I’d actually carry is silver. The other anodizations wear poorly, unless you like an aged look. I’m not really telling you anything I bet, but there you have it... My edc of 14 years ago was a red settler, and it was red with silver dots in a year. Looks ok I guess, but my silver electrician looks almost new in the scales after 10 years. The tools are scratched, but until you open it, you’d never know. It’s kind of amazing how much difference it makes.
Thanks for watching, dude! I agree the anodization is kinda fragile... I do like the way it looks on the red OC knives and more modern black. I rotate carrying a silver Farmer, Wenger Soldier, and Cadet. I do carry a red Pioneer X sometimes but I do worry about damaging the anodization. I'm trying to get away from having too many shelf queens and like to be able to carry awl I can. cheers!
I got a farmer for Christmas there, I'm a starting collector as it is my first alox scale sak and I love it, now I've got my eye on either a selador or alox minichamp 💯
I’m looking at both of these models, and also the newer “Walker” model..mainly for the smaller overall length. I’m leaning more towards the Farmer though b/c I do not have an Alox Swiss army yet!! This will be going in a maxpedition mini fire kit I’m making up myself..and I’m still on the fence with which model..I enjoy your Swiss army obsession and quirks that only the nuts of us know😆 Take care- J
They are both great tools. I carry my farmer with this Maxpedition dangler thing that goes on your belt without having to take off your belt. I really like that because it is a slightly bigger pocket knife that I like to carry without a clip. Ray...Oklahoma
I have a Swiss Army Knife that I found. I cannot identify it based on the tool assortment. It’s like a Huntsman, but it does not have a woodsaw. It also does not have a hook. Help?
The entire video, you only showed the saw and the main blade. O.O I would have liked to see all of the tools opened and both knives placed side by side so I could see which one is better equipped. And I am not sure if this video is about which one is a better camping knife or a better EDC knife or the better knife overall. With that said, a SAK is not an SAK unless it has a corkscrew for opening wine, IMO. :-)
I actually don't like the CAMPING logo on the Camper SAK - the tent graphic is OK, but it's the CAMPING in big block letters that puts me off. It's so prescriptive! Like those coffee tins which say COFFEE on them - what if you want to keep something else in it, huh? Or what if you want to use your Camper knife for something besides CAMPING? I'm glad the rest of the SAK line doesn't have these labels.
Love the farmer but just can't live without the toothpick, tweezers and the corkscrew so for me I carry my camper absolutely everyday (well one of my three campers) and my farmer lives in the draw with my other saks
Great comparison! I guess i prefer the Farmer (aka bushcraft SAK) for a camping trip. It still is a hard choice to make. I do like them both! atb, Bart
I have a sak can't identify it Has no badge Has can opener, big blade, scizzors, Saw,corkscrew, nailfile, Screwdriver, Bottle opener Its silver and my granda gave it to me.please help Don't think its wenger or victorinox
The blade and tools on the farmer are made thicker and wider than the ones in the regular sak's even the flat head screwdriver / topper is beefier. The saw is exactly the same though ( amazing sharp saw ! )
hard choice :) i love them all...i have a black farmer, great pocket knife in the woods. my only problem is the keyring on the farmer, really annoying... :( i put a leather cord on it, but is still uncomfortable...
Have a look at the Harvester/Swiss Army 7. It has an awesome little hawkbill instead of the can opener. And no keyring, rest is the same as the Farmer.
Camper for sure Farmer only for thapeal I turned the farmer x back to the store and I switch it with a locksmith always a spartan in my pocket a manager on my keychain and a spirit in the car
Another cool vid Dude. I love the Farmer but would love it even more if there was a hollow rivet fitted for a, wait for it.......bail. That would be sweet and much more comfortable to handle.
I like the looks, the durability and the little extra size of the Farmer better but then miss the extra tools of the Camper. It's a tie! 😎
Farmer better quality,camper alot cheaper.
Corkscrew works good at working a tight knot loose in cordage too
Honestly, it takes a minute to whittle a stick into a marlinspike.

CWB thanks for watching! The camper is a favorite of mine. Farmers are great too but beware of alox pox!!! 😂

David Cooper try the harvester its the same as the farmer but the can opener is replaced with a smaller blade

My SAK alox farmer is old. Red with a cross. No shield. One of my favorite knives.
Hey could you do a video where you go through your collection of campers, discuss changes over the years, etc?
The Camper is my most used SAK type knife though not my favourite. It just keeps doing what it needs to do and in the UK they're cheaper than most traditional Rough Riders so it's not a huge dent in the wallet if they're lost.

Great point about the tweezers! The straight pin and micro screwdriver often come in handy as well. Thanks for watching! Cheers!

To me the small blade for carving and the twezers for pulling out splinters makes the camper the winner for me when im out in the woods.

Thanks for watching, Ray. The Maxpedition sounds cool!
I have a Swiss Army Knife that I found. I cannot identify it based on the tool assortment. It’s like a Huntsman, but it does not have a woodsaw. It also does not have a hook. Help?
Sounds like a Climber 👍
And the hook was introduced in 92 ish. So, it’s probs a pre-92 Climber. Have a look at SAK wiki.
How could you compare them and not show the farmers inline reamer. Smh
bonz86 that's awl I forgot to mention!!!
True, the inline awl is the killer feature on the Farmer
So there are knives and saws. What other tools do they have?!
The entire video, you only showed the saw and the main blade. O.O I would have liked to see all of the tools opened and both knives placed side by side so I could see which one is better equipped. I saw the camper in the shop bought the saw works well on small twigs it just cuts me up.
How much of these is enough for a lifetime? :D
I am a big alox fan, maybe have around 100, Cadets, Farmers, Pioneers, and about 20 military versions.
Love both types...
Me too! lol. Thanks for watching, Jose!

Thanks for watching, Tony! Can't get much more classic than red cellidor!
Great comparison! I guess i prefer the Farmer (aka bushcraft SAK) for a camping trip. It still is a hard choice to make. I do like them both! atb, Bart
A camping trip sounds like a marvelous idea! Thanks for watching, Bart!
MrSharp k
I gifted my brother the farmer, and I really miss it. I just ordered a pioneer X, maybe I'll get a farmer too
Yeah, you'll probably NEED a Farmer too,LOL. The PX is great tho. Cheers!

I literally just want the farmer for the design.
Thanks for watching, DG! It's most definitely an awesome and solid design!
Nice video, good thoughts! :)
Danke dir.
This is not cellidor, it's normal plastic, I asked Victorinox.
Great info. Thanks for watching, Carlos! Cheers!
@@swissarmydan9354 Hi there!
Thanks for answering my comment.

My wife carries my sak on her keychain. 😉
And?
I always miss the small blade. Id be happy if they dropped the can opener on the farmer and added the small blade = ) that'd be sweet
