      @@mckayleepugmire9947 you should check crash course mythology. They did a collection of myths from all over the world and clasiffied them. All the creation myths, all the global floods, all the tricksters. It's very insteresting.

    There's a similar Chinese version of this myth, only that in this variant of the story the hare's (originally) long tail snaps, thus explaining why hares have stubby tails.

    I heard this story since I was a child ^^ some details are diffrent for sure, like the story I heard from childhood is the Hare jumping over a group of sentiant sharks, not crocodiales but I think all mythology has that small detail change ^^ this was an interesting tale for sure and you guys made it even better. (just immagining one of the japanese gods having that surfer boi voice just cracks me up X,D ) thank you for making this video! and I hope this will be a weeky endeavor :3

    Actually the crocodiles in this story weren’t crocodiles at all. Instead they were Wani, Yokai that are a fusion of crocodile and shark. It also maybe the inspiration for the Pokemon Gyarados.

    Wow, deceiving crocs and jumping on them is same with Kancil (mouse deer) story.
    I always wonder why myths and legends sometimes has similarity even though the origin is far away

      Another parallel between Indonesian and Japanese folklore; Timun Mas and Sanmai no Ofuda, both of which features young protagonists throwing three little things to escape their pursuers. Not to mention how Momotaro also seem to be connected with Timun Mas in certain elements (being born out of a vegetable/fruit and fighting giants). I suspect these tales had a common ancestor which were the oldest of Malayan tales, and certain elements were brought to Japan when Malayan immigrants came and assimilated with the local population.

      Hokkaido in the north and Okinawa in the south were kind of separate kingdoms from Japan back in the day. (Correct me if I'm wrong, history buffs)
