Having parents that never taught you stuff is hard! Especially in a financial rut. My mother worked for finance all her life but her method of teaching was "dont get scammed or youre a silly little idiot" rather than actually teaching ne how to look out for stuff like that. I think she thought id somehow learn money through osmosis of her knowledge from working but now i pay $650 of my $800 a fortnight on rent alone and that doesnt include bills or groceries, i pay my dad back every fortnight too because as you said youre always in debt when youre poor, the struggle bus stops on my street all the time 😆😅😭 dont let anyone make u feel bad for not getting taught, its not your own job as a child to parent yourself into knowing these things if your actual parents dont teach it.
There are some posts/guides online but a lot of it is general advice as the specifics can differ depending on your situation so it can still be hard to find the right information, but worth a look if youre really lost of what to do and no one will help you in person.
My only actual tip for this is to start growing your own veggies/fruit/herbs, but that of course needs space and energy and initial costs, so its not viable for everyone but genuinely that has helped me so much both with finance (i save money if i grow my own food) and depression (it feels good to get out and tend to the plants when i can manage it, and theres a sense of accomplishment when theyre grown!)
Also your scrapbook is so adorable!! If youd want to share more about the process of making it id be interested in seeing that! Ive never done scrapbooking but i keep a book of shadows (basically a witch scrapbook lol) and yours is super cute and inspiring!

I need to start scrapbooking!! That sounds like such a great outlet for me cause im a lite horder, in some sense. I have a hard time letting go of things that hold goof memories and things like that can start to add up quick. Currently everything is just in a couple boxes tucked away but i bet it would be fun to go through that stuff and repurpose it into pages of art.
Thank you!! Ive been inspired and i hope you continue to scrapbook cause i need more inspiration. 😅

Your hair is super cool. I love the neopolitian ice cream idea. I don't think any one really figures life out until at least mid 30s. Your scrapbook is super cool. I love that you love maps. I like to learn about weird things in weird places.

we are currently at university doing teacher training part time and we still get all our benefits still. we were told that if you're already receiving UC and then start a uni course you still get benefits so might be worth looking into that. Also working part time has been a saviour for us. For a while we worked doing bank/supply work in schools and that worked well for disabilities cos it was so so flexible. If we could only work a few days one week that was fine and then if we couldn't work at all some weeks that was fine too. with UC u should lose like 60p for every £1 u earn so u shouldn't get less than ur benefits if u working, might be different if u have to pay tax i guess but we work part time so havent had to pay tax. school has been good for us being able to move around but also sit down when we need, some schools are more accessible than others and its really really nice doing maths and ik that something u have mentioned u liked in school. Theres a big demand for maths teachers/maths teaching support and cud be something u enjoy. happy to answer any questions abt it and things might be different in ur area than ours x

We have this thing called "God man" in Swedish. It's a person from the municipal council who will help you to pay the bills. They hold your money in trust and make sure your bills are paid. I'm not entirely sure what other services they provide. Since it's not a service. I have "living support" once a week. Where they come and help me with the stuff I need. Like helping me carry laundry to the laundrette. Or making phone calls I can't stand making. I wonder if they have that in the Uk?

That’s also not how UC works. I used to be on UC, and now I work full time, never had an issue transitioning over. When I worked part time uc just topped up my part time pay. Also work places have to accommodate for physical disabilities. You could work part time, go for it!

You might be able to find a job that could accommodate your need to move. I've worked in a few places that have adjustable desks so you can go from sitting to standing as often as needed. I even worked in a place that had tall desks with tall stools so I could sit or stand without needing to change my desk.
I also had parents that didn't teach me the importance of brushing my teeth, or make sure I did. The same thing with showering. I still struggle with those kinds of things. I think our responsibility is to help teach our kids to be better. Even though I don't brush my teeth every night, I make sure my kids do. If they complain about it, I show them my missing teeth and remind them that they want to keep all of theirs.

& even people in "well paying" jobs are struggling and using food banks and stuff. My partner and i struggled just as much when we both had jobs as we do now we both have to live on benefits. & his job was considered "well paid". Mine not so much 😅 the only difference now we are on benefits is we have had to get rid of the car. People seem not to understand how difficult it can be to get out of these types of situations or improve them. Then tell us we arent trying or we are lazy scroungers.

I'm not trying to be rude or anything, but I literally can't believe what your saying in this video...
You are your parents' responsibility until a certain age, when you become an adult it's your responsibility to meet your own needs (even if you don't know how to do it!). You have to figure out how to do "adult things" on your own. Could they have taught you? Sure, but when you're an adult you're no longer their responsibility!
Your parents didn't teach how to budget? Okay, but can't you not learn how to do it yourself? Looking that up on the internet, maybe? Or you learn that through experience, you don't leave that to your parents that you no longer live with!
The money you earn is not enough? Well, you see what expenses you can cut, it doesn't seem like it to you, but birthdays are not a mandatory expense. It is not your responsibility (let alone your mother's!) to celebrate Zeph's birthday or to spend money on her! And are we all ignoring the fact that she is abusive to you all the time and doesn't pay her part of the rent on time?? It's shocking to me how you don't see that yourself.
I understand you're not able to get a "normal" job, but you already have one that fits you, your UA-cam channel!! To an extent it depends on you what you earn each month, if you don't upload content you clearly won't have many views and therefore the income you generate will go down.
Many people have told you this before, but I'll say it anyways, you will get out of your sh!tty situation once you stop blaming others, making excuses and when you realize you're the only one who's actually responsible of improving your life.

I think its totally fair to be upset that she never taught me to brush my teeth tho.. like that was her responsibility not mine.. also yeah me and zeph have had issues but its all about communication and they dont happen anymore. Just because she has been mean in the past doesn't mean i get to punish her now, getting nothing, not even a message from family is fkn tragic my dude

    • @BoboCoOfficial

Also my views have dramatically dropped, i put out the same amount of videos as i used to and get 10% of the fkn views so 10% of the adsense, which i only got like 20 per video before so great, 2 quid? If that?

    • @askmyself9257
      @askmyself9257 5 місяців тому +3

@@BoboCoOfficial yeah, that's fair, but it's nothing to do with being an adult and struggling with that.

I had boomer parents but I completely identify with not having been taught to adult at all. For me, I have come to realise that my mum had a lot of emotional issues of her own and she felt like her identity came from being a parent. I don't think she would have hurt us on purpose but she did both of us a heck of a lot of damage in the process of protecting her own feelings and needs an this was one of those things.
It's compounded by the fact that both of us have disabilities of a level where we can't live independently and we are both that naive kind of autistic that's very easy to take advantage of, but I feel lucky because by the time my mum died I had been moved away from home and living with a partner and with support from carers for years. My sister was still completely enmeshed with my mum so has been left in a really bad situation and we are really worried about her.
It sounds like in a way your mum kinda did the opposite of mine. Where mine wanted eternal children, it sounds like yours expected you to go from being a child to being a completely self sufficient adult overnight with no learning curve, and she also seems to have the weird idea that childhood milestones and skills are like windows updates that they will just automatically install at the appropriate times?! I'm sorry you had that experience.
The more I hear about people's ideas of parenting, the more convinced I am that we, as a society, should stop considering it a basic right and the default normal thing to do, for everyone to have kids. At the very least I think that there should be a mandatory parenting course for both parents (if both parents are going to be involved in the child's life of course) along with all the other pre-natal care provided when someone is pregnant. I also think that all families should have periodic checks on if everything is OK and maybe another parenting course at each major time of change in the child's development (for example when they start school, when they enter teens, etc). There also should be more access to support both for kids who aren't ok at either home or school, and parents who are struggling. And, kids need to be taught life skills at school so that the ones who don't learn it at home don't miss out!

gen x parenting is so messy. They were slackers in their teens because they couldn’t stand their parents strict parenting in the 60s-80s. They parent with no structure and chaos and than expect you to function when you turn 18. There should be a legal obligation for expecting parents to do parenting classes before their kid comes into the world.

Hi, I'm new here but if you can't work sitting down all day then employers can give you a sitting/standing desk so you can adjust your position. Not uncommon at all nowadays, most office jobs have it as default. It's tough being on a student budget but it seems like the most realistic way out of your situation and into a job like that.
From this video alone it seems like you're articulate and able to communicate ideas clearly which is honestly a lot better than some of the people I've worked with over the years, so don't undervalue yourself 😊.

❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤ You are right about money.
People with serious mental health issues find these things very difficult. We don't just pick it up from the world because our brains don't focus like a well person. I am 50 and have still got lots of trouble with following my money. I know HOW to do it but my brain won't do it. It doesn't show when you are rich because the little mistakes just disappear but when on the bread line, every penny shows. Rich people make mistakes too but it's us poor people where our mistakes show.... Not even mistakes even budgets just don't add up sometimes. I now use cash more so I can keep up. It's a tough way to have to learn. You are already struggling minute by minute every day so these things are more difficult than for others. My brain spins in circles constantly. Don't panic. Summers coming. Less electric. Parents should teach this. In case their child isn't good at it. I wasn't taught, it would have helped. But telling someone with the sort of problems you and we have to just do it is like telling a dyslexic person to just read a book! ❤❤❤❤❤❤
