    The bikes are that long to counteract wheelies. The longer the distance from the point of rotation ( the rear tire), the more torque it takes to lift the front tire. It also makes it easier to steer.
    And yes, the burn out is to heat the tires. The friction heat the rubber to soften it and it also cleans debris from the surface of the tire. Soft rubber sticks to the track for better traction. The rubber is so soft that if they drove over a gravel road, the slick tire would look like a chocolate donut with sprinkles on it.

    • @kabirconsiders
      @kabirconsiders  3 роки тому +1

      Awesome, thanks for answering my questions Glenn! Cool to know that the burnouts serve a purpose in addition to just looking badass

    • @stewartbonner
      @stewartbonner Рік тому

      do not forget the drive train on these bikes is quite long. The 'heating' of the tires is more to do with getting a fresh rubber face on the pavement. the launch area is also high rubber content driven into the pavement which helps to grip.

    There are also dragsters, both cars & bikes, that are powered by jet engines. There's no racing division or class for them, but they are a special attraction at drag races & car shows. When I was a kid, I saw Art Arfon's Green Monster jet dragster at a local dragstrip.

    The first two cars were Top Fuel Harleys, which are running 98% nitro "straight from the can," but they're normally aspirated. The next two cars were from a different class, in that they're allowed to run superchargers, and they're not limited to Harley Davidson engines. The man in the right lane was "Larry The Spiderman," and he's run (I believe) as much as 275 mph in a quarter mile. If I may editorialize, anybody who climbs on a bike, with his personal ass hanging out in the wind at up to 275 mph, that person is stone cold f*cking nuts. Nothing personal.

    From my experience some people cover their ears the whole time even when the cars are practically stock. Depending on how sensitive your ears are nitro harleys might hurt your ears but you definitely need to cover up your ears on funny cars and dragsters. Or you can end up like my gpa who can’t hear shit anymore 😂. Awesome video sad I found it late but definitely subbing. • @bobkonradi1027
    @bobkonradi1027 11 місяців тому

    Realize that these bike drivers have their own personal asses hanging out in the wind, going 220-230 mph from a dead stop in a quarter mile. I wouldn't be worrying about the "thrill of victory" as much as I would about "the agony of defeat." I've talked to some drivers of these machines at NHRA drag meets, and they say the commonly accepted numbers are at the 1000-hp level for one of these engines on a good run. They're very difficult to set up and tune, even for an experienced crew chief, due to atmospheric changes throughout the day. A driver may turn an absolutely wonderful run one time, and then an hour later the bike will fall on its face. Like the old rock and roll song goes, "when you're hot, you're hot, and when you're not, you're not."

  • @tommystamper7130
    @tommystamper7130 3 роки тому +1

    They warm the tires before takeoff so they stick to the rubber already on the track. I do believe (I could be wrong) theyre that long to keep them down, the wheelie bars are for added insurance. Red light is a false start. Cost all depends on how fast you want to go plus nitro methane isnt cheap
