The combination of David Pearson and The Wood Brothers from 1972 to 1979 was, in my opinion, the greatest in NASCAR history. They never ran a full schedule, only running 18 to 21 races per year. Had they run a full schedule, I believe they would have won at least 4 and maybe 5 Winston Cup Championships. In 1973 alone, they won 11 of 18 races they entered. What a great team!
This was back when there were real cars in nascar!!!! You could tell one make from the other without having a sticker on it. Now they are all just cookie cutter plastic things, same body, same engine, that have to have a sticker across the windshield to let the fans know what brand of car it is🤦♂️redicioulas!!!!
I am calmer and feel better now after seeing and hearing this rolling piece of history. Endorphins were released and I have become one with the universe and achieved detente. Nothing like the sound of a tight lobe separation cam.
If Pearson had run the full schedule, especially with the Wood Brothers, Petty would not have won seven championships and this comes from a lifelong Petty fan.
Nothing else sounds like a big block v8 just remember what it sounded like with 42 big blocks coming around the first turn at Daytona it was earty shaddering
This 50 second video has more excitement for me than any modern Nascar race.
Amen
Agreed . They arent Fords and Chevys anymore...they are all built from the ground up . I watch my old classic videos much more than today's events .

That is amazing!
The days of Bill Elliott are gone, NASCAR is so woke now ain't worth watching.

I grew up listening on radio and hearing them talking about wood brothers Ford boy my imagination.. still a fan of them..
That is horsepower ! Love it. Great team for years. Nascar history there for sure.
Wood brothers, true gentleman race team, my favorite team
Indeed!
last QG's
Heaven, I'm in heaven. THANK You for a video of a real Nascar stock car.
Got to LOVE that sound!!
A living dinosaur.
They were such a great team. Wish they were together longer.
Would have been interesting to see how things would have went had that got something worked out.
Consider the number of wins to number of races. He is the best. I am a big Petty fan, but Pearson success rate is incredible
So true!!
Those Petty/Pearson battles of the 70s were classic! Best rivalry ever, and each man had great respect for the other!
I always wonder how those legends would do today??
Petty said Pearson was the GOAT .
I love that sound!
It sure we be fun to take it for a ride wouldn't it?
This old number 21 Purolator car looks and sound so good.
One of the classic cars of all time!
I miss those sounds……

I would like to second that motion!😉
All is right with the world.
The car sounds so much better than today's cars. Pearson was the best ever.
Man that thing sounds good 😊
I'm glad it was kept well!
When NASCAR actually drove "stock cars."
My first Nascar Hero. The "Silver Fox".
My favorite car and race team and my favorite driver, David Pearson, what a combo.
Man that's beautiful
I'm glad they brought it to Martinsville!
In my opinion Pearson was the greatest ever barr non he was very smart and I'm sure he could drive with today's nascar just like he drove back then
I have no doubt in my mind he good show them a thing or two.
The old days of NASCAR, cars had character. today it's just spec racing.
Just look at the rake in that car.
WoodBrothers were GANGSTA
My favorite driver back in the day

You are 100 percent correct
That old mercury sounds good
The Ford Nascars were cool
Man I wish I could drive this car
Nothing else sounds like a big block v8 just remember what it sounded like with 42 big blocks coming around the first turn at Daytona it was earty shaddering
My gawd, enough to give you goosebumps!
It even had a cigarette lighter
Wow, lol.
If I had a mercury montego, I'd give it that Nascar paint job with Nascar inspired tires...
I saw this car at a car show in MD several years ago. Is it still owned by the same person?
Talk about cam lope.
The original "Petty killer".
Interesting nickname.
And petty still had almost 100 wins more than Pearson
Not even close. Petty is the king to this day. Just outlaw everything Chrysler has so you pussies can compete.
Total Bad A$$!! I wished David was still around to drive it.
Silver fox
Yhhhhujijiiiioooo
Curtis Quesenberry was there best crew chief back in those days.
Thanks for stopping by!
Sounds like a basic medium compression conventional headed bracket racing motor 😂
Mean combo there👍🏾👍🏾
My first car a 1970 Mercury Montego GT wished it was a Cyclone but I did everything I could to make it like the 21.
That is awesome!
The look on the Ford guy's faces when the Charger Daytona hits 200 + mph. Boo hoo hoo . We better cry to Nascar until they outlaw the Chrysler hemi.
