  • In The Lion King, the scene where Rafiki learns that Simba is alive is both powerful and mystical.
Rafiki, the wise old mandrill, is seen sitting under a tree in his mystical sanctuary. He is deep in thought when suddenly, a gentle breeze carries some leaves and dust towards him. Intrigued, he sniffs the air and catches the scent of something familiar. He begins to stir, his senses heightened.
Rafiki (excitedly whispering to himself): “It is time…”
Using his shaman-like powers, Rafiki dips his fingers in some paint and spreads the mixture over his staff. He then takes a look at the fruit of a gourd he’s been saving, breaking it open to reveal seeds. As he examines the seeds, he feels a strong spiritual connection and realizes the truth - Simba is alive!
Rafiki (ecstatically shouting): “Simba! He’s alive!”
Rafiki’s joy is overwhelming, and he begins to laugh and chant. He draws Simba’s image on a tree, circling it with his fingers and declaring to the spirits that the true king lives. His excitement builds as he knows now that the rightful heir to Pride Rock is alive, and hope is restored.
Rafiki (with a knowing smile): “It is time.”
He sets off on a journey to find Simba, ready to guide him back to his destiny and reclaim his place as king.
