BECOME A PATRON TO GET SONGS/TABS: www.patreon.com/coversolutions The bass was really quiet on the mix, luckily i found an isolated track. This is a great line actually, it's a shame it didn't have more part on the mix. Song is in C Minor modulating into F Minor for the choruses Cminor (Natural/Eolian) Key: Cm(I) Ddim(II) Eb(III) Fm(IV) Gm(V) Ab(VI) Bb(VII) Fminor (Natural/Eolian) Key: Fm(I) Gdim(II) Ab(III) Bbm(IV) Cm(V) Db(VI) Eb(VII) A C major appears as a dominant for the Fminor (usual major V on harmonic minor with a natural E instead of Eb, creates more tension into the Tonic) For the bridge there's a chromatic passage in the bass that creates some tension but resolves again into Ab (you could say this part modulates to Ab (relative major to Fminor). Solo goes back to Cminor The line goes over mainly on Tonic and 5th of the chord but there's some really great covering of the harmony in some parts, great ideas rhythmically also If you have any other doubt or suggestion/correction feel free to comment. My bandleader asked me to pick this song up ... about 45 mintues before I leave for the gig. Finding this tutorial is totally saving my bacon. Excellent work here. Thanks for helping me out in a pinch!
@@qotsashfifty4 I believe OP is talking about the transition between the C chord & the Fm chord in the choruses. So for example ~ 02:55 - 02:56 would be one instance of this

From what you say I assume you haven't been playing very long. It's a great bassline, and the finger positions personally are some of my favourites. Check out the songs by Bad Company and Future Islands that Sebastian has covered, kind of the same art of fingering, I find them to be more bluesy than they should. If you get comfortable with playing, those kind of basslines will be your favourites
I never mentioned rhythms, I mentioned the positions of the left hand fingers, which I believe many will agree with, are some of the most comfortable and fun kinds of fingering patterns to play
Thanks for putting this video out! You are helping me a lot. In a few weeks I will perform this song live with my Band. Until then I will get every single lick under my fingers. I will Tell the sound engineer to turn the bass up on this song, I never realized how cool this line is. 1200 people are expected to the Festival we will be playing at, so I am very excited. Also, this is the last song on our Setlist so I will have fun on the last song.
I've watched quite a few of these videos and it has helped me bring my chops back up to where they once were. People always comment on how insanely good the bassists are who wrote this stuff, and don't get me wrong they definitely are. But, one thing I think a lot of people fail to mention is that the guy making these videos is incredibly talented to be able to accurately replicate all these kickass lines. Keep up the good work! You've rekindled my love for playing bass that has been lost on me for far too long
i knew i wanted to play bass because I kicked ass in guitar hero on this song. i finally have a real bass and now I realize how much I underestimated this song-
Thanks a lot! It helps! Please note for a small errors in tab: 3:12 "Db" but in tabs "Ab", then starting from 4:04 you wrote "Db" as chord, but in tabs "Bb"
Thanks, this is really fun! You have a great tone. I like this Jaco-like buzzing of the strings when you play forte. I wanted to get this buzzing - so for the first time I started adjusting the truss rod and the bridge. Now it feels like a complete different bass, and I like it though I didn't yet manage to make it buzz like you do. I will continue. Before I saw this video I thought I would have to buy a Jazz Bass to get a Jaco-like buzz-sound. Now I experiment to get my own bass buzzing. (While UA-cam is full of videos how to get rid of buzzing, lol.)
Ufffff, krnal c mamo con su cover alv, bien chingon, toque la del tololoche chicoteado, para toda la razita que la sigue cotorreando, le mando un abrazo y fortaleza.
I started playing this in 1996 as a kid. I didn't realize I was making mistakes on it until I saw your sheet music! I realized I actually like reading frets instead of notes. Doesn't Tony play half notes at the end instead of the regular bass line? After all of these years, I plan to take up bass again and this is the first thing I will practice:)

Hey there, how are you able to determine the chords of the song? Is that something you figured out or did you get them from a source? I love knowing the actual chords; it helps me practice and learn the instrument...thanks, your videos are hands down the best for bass

how did the gig go?
They didn't call this song for the entire show. But they did call it around 3 weeks later, after I'd totally forgotten the bridge part.
Ive been playing for some time now. ..." Learn this 45 minutes before a show" is insane... Maybe not impossible but .........
@@brianschulz7951 especially this song lol
I have to learn this then transpose down two steps because the singer (who is good) just can sing this high. But 45 min before a gig is a dick move.
I never realized how interesting this baseline was.
Same here. I alwasy liked the song,....but after coming across this tab, I absolutely love it now!!!
No one did lol
That's because Lars Ulrich goes into every mixing session of these great songs and tells the mixer to turn the bass down

That's what often sad with bass... And you feel alone when you talk to somebody about great basslines like this one.
I stopped playing bass some years ago because I kinda lost my inspiration, but after discovering your channel I really want to try again :)
That's one of my main goals, thanks for the comment
I wish you luck.. Hope your having fun and playing again, playing should never be a choir. It should always be fun
Man, this must be by far the best comment anyone can do about someone's channel!!!
@@CoverSolutions And to you: Congratulations!
that's cool!
Tony Kanal was criminally underrated.
Yeah. Listen to
"snakes"
"trapped in a box"
"dark blue"
"by the way"
Just to name a few
@@jjwp-ql5rv Excellent basslines... No Doubt drives me crazy! Long live Tony Kanal
Yeah best performance tony kanal in tour return to saturn in malaysia long ago...awesome
Tony Kanal is the reason I bugged my parents to buy me a bass when I was 15.
Still play to this day. He's so underrated

It is harder than i expected

The first song I was given to learn, I didn't find it that bad.
+Max Miller No need to be patronizing, to be fair there are some pretty unconventional rhythms in here.
I never mentioned rhythms, I mentioned the positions of the left hand fingers, which I believe many will agree with, are some of the most comfortable and fun kinds of fingering patterns to play

Thank you very much for doing a transcription of this. You're right the bass is very quiet in the original mix and hard to figure out by ear.
This bassline is insanely tasty. Great transcription thanks

Ill second that sentiment. Every video he does is right on the money!
Been listening to it for 30 something years and thanks to the augmented bass, I can appreciate a bass solo playing parallel to the guitar's.
Yes YES! NO DOUBT TABS! I LOVE YOU
Wow. Like adding a macro lens to your photographic repertoire. Very nice video production. Your bass work is flawless.
These floating hands do a really good job !

Vitaly Alyokhin they're slash chords. This is for bass not guitar.
Vitaly Alyokhin the guitar plays a chord under the bass note of B flat.
Woah, floating arms, sweet!
This was the best song by no doubt. It's a shame Gwen Stefani and her music has decreased in quality since then.
Rocking bass line btw
