    For spirit plants, I'd say if you have a speed 30 feet as most medium humanoids do, if your speed if halved then you have a speed of 15 feet. You need the required speed to moved a square, so the combo would mean dash or effectively have 0 speed, unless the DM rules you can move 3/4 of a square and then next round move 2 squares, but that would be a house rule

    • @ThisCrits
      @ThisCrits  2 роки тому

      This is really tough because the creature isnt technically grappled or restrained in any way so they should have some kind of speed even if it is greatly reduced. I am honestly not sure what the actual rule for if you reduce an enemies move speed to 0 or even if its technically possible.
      Generally what I find is that most DMs have a "Minimum Movement" meaning that at minimum unless restricted by a condition the creature can always move at least 1 square. But I think this is totally up to the DM unless there is a rule I dont know about which is entirely possible lol

      @@ThisCrits Sounds like a house rule to me. The rules don't specifically state it from the looks of it, but seeing as each square is typically 5 feet, and you tend to spend speed in chunks of 5, if you had a speed of 15 but it cost you 20 of your speed to move a square, then either you would move 15 feet but stay in the same square and then only need 5 next turn to actually leave the square or you would treat it like trying to by a $1 candy bar for 75 cents and say "you can't afford it so you fail to move"

      @@geoffreyperrin4347 Thats a fair way of looking at it. I kind of equate it back to the damage rules. You cannot deal 0 damage, even if you have a negative modifier. No matter what you always have a minimum of 1 damage per hit which is kind of why I apply the 1sq of movement regardless of their "speed".

    • @TheRobversion1
      @TheRobversion1 2 роки тому

      Correct. Dash is needed or they cant move. they have 15 ft of speed while inside spirit guardians. they will need to spend 20 ft of movement to move 1 square through plant growth.

      @@ThisCrits geoffrey is right here. i have a couple of builds that actually reduce enemy's speed to 0. for example, with the same spirit guardians, i combine that with tentacle of the deep and ray of frost/lance of lethargy to effectively reduce someone who has 40 ft speed or lower to 0.

    Yey! my fav type of vid. how's it going Lee?
    sharing inputs on each combo:
    1. one my fave control combo types: speed reduction! my own versions of this as shared in the other comment are:
    a. spirit guardians + tentacle of the deep + lance of lethargy/ray of frost/earth tremor.
    b. entangle + plant growth (entangle allows me to use plant growth in any environment).
    c. summon despair shadowspawn + animated performance + shove prone (from either the summon or the pet) + ray of frost.
    as for the spirit plant name, perhaps something like Plant Guardians? Nature Spirits?
    2. command is one of my fave spells in the game. nice combo to destroy equipment. I'd consider swords and shields as small or even tiny. medium and small creatures can wield them.
    BTW Lee in the closeup around this part I saw that you're growing a beard? new look eh? haha.
    3. tasha's sliver. nice name! 2 of my fave spells again. tasha's mind whip is so useful in combination with concentration control or entry spells (like cloud of daggers, spirit guardians, etc). i dont typically take save cantrips but i always take mind sliver if i can as i consider it the best save cantrip and one of the cantrips overall.
    4. bestial bomb. sounds like a WWE move. haha! this is my fave among the 5 you shared as this harkens back to the "moo-teor swarm" combo/build i shared with you before. definitely fun thematically, mechanically though i don't get the benefit of polymorphing into something bigger. you can polymorph into something that just has alot of hp and isn't tiny. as long as you aren't tiny, you'll deal falling dmg to the target you fall on to. i do get why you need to polymorph/wildshape though as that'll give you the extra hp to absorb the falling dmg you'll also take. i think you can take this a step further for moon druids that have dimension door/thunder step. you can teleport further up (deal some dmg too if with thunder step) then wild shape as a bonus action before you fall from a large height over your enemy. thanks for inspiring me to take this further. definitely copying this and looking for ways to optimize this!
    5. ah the popular and sorry, overrated, darkness + devil sight combo. i don't use this anymore as it tends to screw up party members unless we decide to synergize around this tactic at session zero. and even then there's a cheaper version of this in fog cloud (1st level spell) or pyrotechnics (concen free) + blind fighting. for my obscurement needs, i go with misty visions instead as it's action economy and resource free while not screwing your party members. the only drawback with misty visions is unlike darkness you have to spend an action to move it in combat so it works best on ranged folks. if melee, then darkness + devil sight/blind fighting is still the best low level option. once you get to tier 2 though, better options come up such as greater invisibility and shadow of moil.
    anyway great vid as always Lee. Keep it up! i want to see the full goatee next time! 😆

      Not bad man! Hopefully you are doing well!
      1. I love combos like these because they allow you to control the entire battle. I like the mix of spirit guardians specifically because its consistent damage alongside move speed reduction. And I worked realllllly reallly hard on that spirit plants name come onnnn hahaha
      2. This combo is funny because like I said in the video I never knew that about shatter until Keapontrekkin told me about it in the discord. Everyone here is so good at coming up with this stuff its insane!
      BTW I am now cosplaying as shaggy from scooby doo lol. I can't grow facial hair for my life and what you are seeing is the result of not shaving for 3 straight weeks hahah.
      3. I know one of your favorites are intelligence saves so I figured you would like that one lol.
      4. Hahah I loved this combo. I kept it to misty step just because its a bonus action so you could do it in 1 turn but you are 100% right. This could be taken muchs further with dimension door or other teleporting spells. If you do manage to pull something like this out I neeeeeeed to hear the story lol.
      5. Like I said, the party better make sure that only the person who has Devils sight is in the darkness because if not they are in just as much trouble as their enemy. I do like blind fighting but its just too limiting since you need to be 10ft and a fighter. As far as Tier 2 works greater invisibility is obviously the ideal choice lol
      Thanks again man! I really appreciate it hahaha. And I doubt that, itll take 4 months before I get to that point lol

      @@ThisCrits you know you could use a marker to draw a goatee... haha. anyway...
      1. yeah SG is one of the best spells in the game mixing control and dmg.
      2. me on the other hand am lazy to shave but forced to because my gf likes me clean cut. lol.
      3. yup. int save or bust. haha.
      4. sure. would be further down the line though as the next campaign after my current one will be a battlesmith (1st time to play an artificer main). if i do get invited for a one-shot though, i may come up with something based around this. it's been a looong while since i played a druid too! like years.
      5. fighter isn't needed for blind fighting. rangers and pals have it too and everyone can pick it up with fighting initiate feat.
