David looked very proud of what he and the ESR volunteers achieved, and so they should be, went there a few months ago rainy day but all the ESR staff were very friendly.

Thanks Pete. This little look at history came about because a good friend mentioned that she and her husband had been walking the Strawberry line. Not all of it I guess!

Hah! The 'good old days' ! i worked as a volunteer for a number of years on this line, and filmed an interview with David shepherd and an acquaintance from bristol university in the signal box ( then an art/railwayana venue ).
i was formerly a friend of Alan jeffries and his wife Pauline (driver and fireman in this video).
Unfortunately, all my video was recorded on Hi8 and i no longer have the means to play the cassettes i still retain of this line and the interview.
Btw, as Pensford viaduct was featured, just thought i'd mention that many years prior, i walked over it whilst taking the family dog out for her exercise - i also got bollocked by a farmer who bought the trackbed when i crossed over the road bridge which formerley went over the A37 near Whitchurch i walked a lot of railway line back in the day, including the now renovated AVR railway at Warmley.

Thanks for the info. I'm sure you could have that Hi8 footage transferred for a bit of cash. Have you made any enquiries?
      Best Wishes,
      Philip

Fantastic video and information. I've recently visited Pensford viaduct for the first time and I was amazed at its size and beauty! I went up to the entrance of the viaduct where the station once stood - shame the viaduct is locked off, at least it cannot be targeted by vandals.
Thank you for another interesting video

      Many Thanks McMetro.
I didn't know the viaduct is locked off. Certainly an amazing structure. Hope it can be maintained.
Interestingly, the latest news is that the East Somerset Railway would like to run the video at their David Shepherd Discovery Centre. Sounds like a nice idea.
      Best Wishes,
      Philip

@@philipfowler5280 That sounds like a fantastic idea, it would then reach an audience of many more people. I've personally never been down to the ESR, would love to in the future. I see they have also reinstated platform 2 which is nice to see

Just a correction to the end credits ............. Green Knight 75029 was sold to the North Yorkshire Moors Railway and Black Prince 92203 was sold to the North Norfolk Railway.

@@philipfowler5280 Hi Philip hope you we`nt offended by my correction, you might like to know ........ i have a DVD copy of a silent film 16mm / unedited of the Royal Opening from 1975 that was passed onto me via Davids family when i get the time i`l edit it and upload it onto my and the ESR`s facebook page.

      Hi John.
Having contacted me over the video, Elaine Lavender at ESR is interested in material for their rolling Presentation in the David Shepherd Discovery Centre, so no doubt would be interested. David's widow Avril may have already passed on anything she has, but no harm in checking...I suspect you may already be in touch of course.
I will look out for your film, not on Facebook though.
Regarding the correction, deletion was the only option on UA-cam's basic Editor, but decided not to update it as the info may change and if set in stone in their rolling presentation awkward for ESR to update.
      Hope this all makes sense,
      Best Wishes,
      Philip@@steamdieselrailwayvideosfi4296
