I've toyed with the idea of getting a pure sine wave generator that's big enough to run our fridge/freezer for a time until we use up their contents but our power here is pretty stable and reliable. We've probably chucked out food from a power down situation maybe twice in the decades we've lived here.
Keeping more shelf stable stuff in the cellar is my preferred option and our camping stuff will give us light etc if the power does go down. We keep enough cash around the place that if I feel the need to buy a generator I could have one in very short time.
A large camping style fridge with solar and a battery pack would be a nice energy efficient back up as well.
I think I saw you had a van as well. Is that set up to be off grid as well or as an extra bugout option?
    Cheers mate.

      Hi mate,
Van is for fun.but can be bug out if required it's entirely self sufficient. Power wise It's 450ah batts. 480w solar victron mppt, b2b and mains chargers. Generator is less than a year old but will be replacing it next year with a duel fuel option as.propane keeps almost indefinitely

@@Scottishprepper73 I've always thought a van or camper trailer would be a good option as a backup for home power and as a potential holiday/bugout option.
I will only be looking at a petrol generator and not a particularly large one if and when.
Really all I would want it for is until the stuff in the fridge/freezer is used up as our other needs would be easily met via other means.
I'm a bit wary of keeping large amounts of fuel around the house as it could be an insurance issue if it turned your house into a smoking hole in the ground.
Over here now I here the latest thing is to put full size house fridges in vans and run them off an inverter.
Seems a bit of overkill as there are so many great 12v options now including chest types, upright and drawers.

@@oldbloke204 I built mine to use for hobbies first anf foremost.
Fuels etc I don't keep in the house as its a bit dangerous lol so keep it secure in out building.
Generally want the gen set to supplement the solar and batteries and powerbanks.

@@Scottishprepper73 Yeah you look very well set up tbh.
I try and work on the OH&S principle that engineering out a risk is the first option and that varies for all of us according to where we live and the situation at the time.
I will maybe discuss it a bit more when I've drunk a bit less.
      Cheers.

0.43 - That's why tests like this are important, so that you can see the gaps and go hunting for the misplaced stuff.
Have you tried Dragon Fuel in place of the meth's ? Costs a bit more, but it is safe for use indoors and also burns a lot hotter

@@Scottishprepper73 I kind of do the same with the E5 fuel for my ride on lawn mower, other garden equipment and classic motorcycle. I forgot to drain down the fuel in the mower last autumn, it started fine this spring so E5 is certainly good for 6 months I'd say. E10 can gum up carbs and rot certain types of rubber if it's let to sit so I only use that grade in my modern daily driver.
