    Wow, she looks just like her mother. Reminds me of the time, long ago, when I attended the International Horse Show in NYC, and walking up the aisle comes Paul Newman. He and Joanne Woodward were there to watch their daughter Clea compete. Good riding takes such commitment, focus, and discipline, an ability to relate to the horse, and an ability to take direction from trainers and coaches. I think it's good for the children of the rich to have something like this in their lives.

    Claire ... I'm feelin' ya ... I was really into Dressage and I got to a certain level ( with the amazing input of a professional ex coach of the Irish Olympic 3 day eventing team who was schooling both me and my green 5 year old) . Being in my early teens and unable to earn the type of money required for stabling/feed/tack/lessons/horsetruck/land for grazing and all-weather and indoor arena I had to rely on my parents and unfortunately they were unable to finance my passion.
    Watching Jessica Springsteen be able to enjoy her sport due to the immense wealth (relatively) she no doubt has access to makes me so envious. My heart aches as my horse had to be sold. Such a divide between rich and poor.

    • @ratherbwithhorses

      I haven't ridden a horse in several years. I became sick and had to stop training and showing. It was difficult after 30 years! I miss it so much. However don't miss the drugging and numbing and the abuse that some trainers used in getting to the National level.

      One has to question the actual horsemanship she actually has...money can definitely buy the nicest horse and the best trainer, and pay for the biggest shows, but when it comes down to it...could she get a young horse started? Could she do that course (at lower height of course) with no saddle or no bridle? I’m thinking probably not....

    I have a friend whose husband is top show jumper. She told me that money dominates this sport now. Her husband, who has been riding and showing professionally for 35 years now is now is watching riders like Springsteen and Bloomberg take over because of the money they have; buy nicer horses and have someone else train them, take them to the show, sit on them for a few minutes and win. Absolutely no horsemanship whatsoever.

      I've been saying this for over 15 years and I'm only 31 years old. I recognized it as soon as I was 11 at a super posh, expensive, multi multi millionaire rider barn. You can easily buy your way to top 5* GP international competitions and even the WEG and Olympics....jumping youncqn buy into which people think you can't but I agree with everything you say. I've met Gates, Bloomberg, and Springsteen who is a shit rider and a total stuck up bitch.

    • @David-jj7dy
      @David-jj7dy 5 років тому +36

      Oh my you took the words right out of my mouth with your comment. For it is sad but so true. I have never fit in to the wonderful world of show jumping as I have tried so many times. To be envious of the super wealth is to say that I struggle to pay for my horse to get to shows and to have all the right tack with me and it's a big let down always knowing that I could never catch up and be so I'm to that kind of crowd. That's why I'd rather groom or do stable work shoveling manure so to know that I am doing the best for my horse. I do have a very expensive warm blood and he's 17.3 hands and dapple grey kind of young but very good at jumping higher than he needs. I get compliments all the time but I'll never sell him. I'd rather sleep with my horse in his stall. His name is Mikey

      But there are so many ways we average can enjoy horses. Everyone doesn't need to be competing at these levels to have fun with horses. Trail riding, skijorring, smaller curcuit shows are fun too. Horses need people more than ever in modern times. As for me I rejoice for the horses when the super rich spend their fortunes on horses. And if a person is talented, you can find a way to the top. Money can not buy talent. Great riders can find sponsors and mentors. Not everyone wants to compete at these high leveks, it's really hard work. Hard work even for the rich.

    • @palehorse5181
      @palehorse5181 4 роки тому +7

    @Claire, I have a friend whose daughter road in George Morris' Horsemastership class in 2016. She beat Steve Jobs daughter Eve, and Bill Gates daughter, Jennifer. She was even featured in _The Chronicle Of The Horse._ After that she went to train with Beezie Madden. She left because Beezie was so snobbish and fake, and the experience of being around the privileged kids (she saw them laughing and talking about her and her borrowed horse) left such a bad feeling in her heart that she stopped riding all together. She said the only one who was truly nice was Laura Kraut. I feel sad for her because she was a fearless rider, but she did not want to become like them. Be happy and love your horses no matter how much money you make. Know that you truly know what it is to love a horse, and having a horse, and riding does not make you better or worse than anyone else. Be happy right where you are. Be a true horse lover, and not a phony. ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤

She’s had a wealth of experience plus every horse she rides is push bottom. In this class she just ran at the jumps and the horse jumped no matter how she happened to get there.. If everyone comes from a "wealthy and privileged background"
    What about Charlotte Dujardin and Valegro a normal girl from a normal British family and Valegro a £6000 horse.
    Probably the best there has ever been and an utter privilege to watch.

      Valegro was actually purchased for even less than that, think H&H quoted Carl as saying he was purchased for £4k. I love Charlotte but she wasn’t poor, I’m reading her book and she mentions several times her family went through ups and downs financially but she does also mention things like her parents bought a pony for £30k 🤣 but you’re right she’s not from a crazy wealthy background and definitely worked her butt off to get where she is.

      This is a sport for the wealthy. Why can't you accept that? I don't think there's anything wrong with that. Just like you need height to play in the NBA. A fit physique to swim, and if you want to be a ballerina there are certain requirements too! Ballet is also for someone of means. Those pointe shoes cost $200 and they only last a week! You can make a list of underprivileged riders in this costly sport. It really won't mean anything bc this is not a sport where anyone can name accomplished riders except for the offspring of wealthy celebs.

    Can't believe the excuses when they fail in competition. Failure gets giggled away. 'Oh, it was the weather, he's a bit nervous, a bit rusty... blablabla... next time better... Lots of posing, excuses and nonsense around it. Winners have a much harder attitude. Winning is the only thing acceptable, losing is not on, never, and nothing is going to get in the way of that. If you're not in that mindset you're just a rich daddy's girl larking about...

      To be clear, my comment was not at all maliciously meant. I'm not like that... I just think about the expense of going to a tournament, all the costs involved. With that kind of a cost factor this needs to be commercial. Achieving high rankings and top three results enhance the standing of the rider and achieves higher sales prices for their horses (Erwin & Paul Schockemöhle in the 70s come to mind). Also, maybe the setup of tournaments needs to change so that, even after a faulty ride, riders are still in with a chance of getting to the prize money. To have to bow out after one faulty ride after all the expense seems to be massively counter productive...

      It’s not always easy to win when you’re working with a horse. If you can’t accept that you lost then you shouldn’t be competing in the first place.

      @@michaelatuffy5657 What does your reply have to do with the poster's comment "imagine if she had to groom and train her own horses." With $$$$ it's easy to buy a top horse and pay others to do the dirt work - that's not horsemanship, it's jumping on the next race car, do a lap and get out.

      @@NYCisland considering how strong of a bond you’d have to have with a horse to ride them in a competition like this, she absolutely does train and groom them when she’s not at shows. at shows of this high a prestige level, of course she’d have people helping her. that’d be like calling a Broadway star lazy for having people help do their makeup and hair before they go onstage.

      @@beckstyles3467 The point is not about winning or losing, but about attitude. Yes, it takes hard work to get up to this level of competing however she is nothing but an average rider with quality horses due to her daddy's money. If you look at really good riders (Scott Brash, Christian Allman, Markus Ehning, Ludger Beerbaum, Meredith Beerbaum, Edwina Tops, Daniel Deusser and etc.), and yes, she is a way below their league, you will never see such an attitude - she acts just like a rich daddy's spoiled girl.
