This was one hell of a match. Just goes to show how important a solid metagame really is. On paper, Orange had this game in the bag at several different stages. He just didn't have his units in the places they needed to be to seal the deal, and Red was able to climb his way back up and eventually take back control. I guess that's what makes this game so awesome, though. Doesn't matter how big your lead is... a couple of unfortunate trades can turn the tides of battle almost instantaneously.
Are the WC2 community still active in 2021? This is what I always wanted to be a part of as a kid, but we were poor and didn't had internet. This is just so awesome to watch, especially with the commentary. This content is diamond!
I miss this game. My gamertag was We'rebeinattakd My record was 2800-1300 on that account...and I had at least 4 to 5 other accounts. I was so addicted.
I'd never actually watched competative WCII before- I'd always assumed it wasn't considered a serious PvP game because Bloodlust tipped the balance between the 2 mostly-identical factions so strongly in favour of the horde. Have to say that although it requires an incredibly high level of skill, it's a very strategically shallow game- you use at most 1/4 of the actual tech tree (once you're past the early game the only units you use are peasants/peons, knights/ogres and mages/death knights) and humans don't even bother upgrading to Paladins because they're so sub-par compared to Ogre Magi. And of course, the idea of using flying units is absurd. WCII was a classic and I'll love it forever, but you have to admit that Starcraft and WCIII vastly improved on it from a competative standpoint.
yeah thats true...in wc2 there is no advantage in attacking at all, the buildings are sooo strong. If there is any pro scene the metagame will shift into defense and macro as it requires like 400 APM to macro in wc2.
ArcaneAzmadi Uhmm... No, paladins were extremely powerful with their healing spell. And flying units ridiculous? What the fuck? They were the most powerful units on either of the sides.
Deathound9 You clearly don't know anything at all about professional level WCII. ANYTHING at all. Fliers were "ultimate" units, certainly, but if you even TRY to use them against a human player, the resource sink alone will ruin you before you even get one on the field, then your opponent will focus it down and destroy it before it kills even a single unit. And Healing is such a joke compared to Bloodlust. Restore a small amount of HP to a single unit vs DOUBLE A UNIT'S COMBAT DAMAGE? It's good in single player for methodical attrition-based players (like me) but in multiplayer it's useless. Did you even WATCH this game? No Paladins, no Gryphons, no Dragons, even though the game went for 35 minutes and pretty much mined almost out the whole map.
Would it not be pretty valuable to go Knight with Archers and Heal as well? I guess its only viable at normal speed because Healing is pretty micro intense
Ballista a have an extra animation frame which causes accidental misfires when not managed correctly. It is possible to misfire catapults but since Orc is the more common race, players are much better at managing them.
The bloodlust spell (URRRRR!) makes ogres do TWICE as much damage (actually even more because of how damage is calculated). Healing is just not worth it. This may not be the case in a game against computer, for which the game was initially designed.
Do human mages having bettter spells matter at all? Too much micromanagement? I see why Orcs would be preferred, seems like competitive players always use all land maps. Humans would probably fare better on sea maps.
I'm no good player myself, I lose to computer :) But from what I can see in these replays, yes, human spells matter, but you have to live until you have them somehow. If orcs hurry up with lust and you are stuck at keep for some reason, that's likely the game.
Another thing is that games are usually played at fastest speed, which works against humans because it limits how well they can micro mages. At slower speeds humans get a bit more viable (and the game is more fun in general IMO).
it is mostly just the spells. There are slight differences on the troll vs archer but no one uses them so it doesn't matter. Just comes down to mage vs death knights and ogre mage vs paladin.
Human made an immense stupidity by helping orcs find out his base on 2 o'clock. And orc was even more stupid, because he couldn't win with an early expansion and the overpowered bloodlusted ogres, and he didn't even have map awareness, and he was terrible at micro managing.
This game really shows how limited the wacraft 2 talent pool is, the commentator is impressed by multitasking and micro that would be considered advanced players at best for starcraft players.
@MultiShark33 because Starcraft 2 is much better than WC3 but WC2 is too much of a classic game that has very difficult macro mechanics that alot of oldschool players can't get enough of so people are trying to keep the wc2 scene alive whereas almost every wc3 pro moved on to SC2 like Grubby.

This takes me back to computer club days in high school in 1996-7. So much fun playing LAN games on 486 setups.
Wow, an actual game with humans! I must be sleep deprived and dreaming!
after an epic game such as this, do you ever wonder if through thick and thin your original peasant has survived with you to the end?
really enjoy these old clips with the commentary
Wow!
I've seen a couple of Wc2 games and all of them containing Orc vs Orc..
This was so much more fun too watch!

omfg, I want to be Viruz when I grow up! Great commentary Frostbitten, you have a nice speaking voice and clearly known the map thoroughly. :D
@FrostbittenWarcraft yeah it's good commentaries , keep them up

+ArcaneAzmadi Triple the damage, btw. Not double.
ArcaneAzmadi
Shut the fuck up, will you noob?
Yeah!! This is awesome to watch, what great players! Bloodlust looks crazy good!
More of these great games and commentary :D
beautiful. its always pleasant to watch a human victory..
OH WOW
THANK YOU VERY MUCH
Would it not be pretty valuable to go Knight with Archers and Heal as well? I guess its only viable at normal speed because Healing is pretty micro intense
Wait, why wouldn't you want to use control groups?
4:30 Was there any difference between catapults and ballistas?
Ballista a have an extra animation frame which causes accidental misfires when not managed correctly. It is possible to misfire catapults but since Orc is the more common race, players are much better at managing them.
Out of curiosity, why was Viruz playing as Falkentyne?
PsyintZ Falkentyne was the first true Human player in Zone. I use this name now whenever I want to go on a human rampage.
keep your eye on the action. Too many times you were off looking at grass during clutch moves.
this is rather entertaining.
does it works on windows 7?
great game, human seems to be a lot harder due to bloodlust
@toxic2waste plus warcraft 3 has been done pretty heavily
dang, good job viruz
Are orcs generally considered better at high skill levels?
bloodlust op

@gooser1981 i try, i talk with my hands so its hard to do it all :) i'm getting better? :D
finaly except design, what are differences between the 2 factions?
it is mostly just the spells. There are slight differences on the troll vs archer but no one uses them so it doesn't matter. Just comes down to mage vs death knights and ogre mage vs paladin.
ok thx you
the stupid thing is, he took out the fort but didn't take out the mound, even though red won.. it could have been so much easier
Why he don't use divination for map control?
If just update the knight to paladin, he would gain a lot more map control since he can scout 24/7
BRILLIANT MAGE HARASSMENT!
Why no heal paladins?
whats with "UHHMMMMM"" commentator why?!
great game^^
yup. at least it does for me
Human made an immense stupidity by helping orcs find out his base on 2 o'clock. And orc was even more stupid, because he couldn't win with an early expansion and the overpowered bloodlusted ogres, and he didn't even have map awareness, and he was terrible at micro managing.
Micro mangers commence micro management
they should just make some flying units and all those melee units would be worthless..
mage would destroy dragons easily, way too expensive for little result. Humans can't afford it either buying knights and mages
amazing game
thx for answer
Its sad how heavily the human has to outplay an orc opponent to win.
futbolluva the orc opponent wasn't very quick. Virus was just too good.
The orc lost because he almost didn't use DK..
badassery
no

Paladins confirmed for completely unnecessary.
