It was in 1978 July , in the heavy rains we as young grp of boys has trekked to Bhimashankar .
We reached the ancient Shiva temple late evening ,
we happen to had overnight stay with a baba kutirv who had the Dhuni live
The recalled the experince food warmed on the Dhuni and the warm water we had on Dhuni
At night the red glow in the dark kutir of Dhuni was
    providing us the warmth .
Still recall the aroma of Dhuni in our semi dried clothes .
    The multi purpose of Dhuni
Spiritual and physical was understood after hearing Guruji 🙏🏾
    Shambho !!’ Shiva Shambho !!!

I had an amazing experience with fire , the candle was 2 meters away from me , I was looking at how the candle was burning and I imagined that the fire came to me and became part of me, and I just closed my eyes, and I felt and heard a sound like a generator moving around me. It really freaked me out because it was unknown to me what was going on around me, and I freaked out and opened my eyes . It was astonishing , I don't know what it was, if it was my electro magnetic field. I would like to know what it was.

Transcript, to the best of my ability:
"It was asked, what is the significance of a dhuni?… Can you describe what a dhuni means? Well to start with, we’ll look at the physical aspects. Just like hatha yoga, you go on to the deeper yogas. First you start with the physical because we deal with the body first. If the body is not healthy and sound, you cannot go to the inner; it’s not possible.
So, we start with the outer. Which is the external dhuni. Then I will try and describe what the internal dhuni is.
The external dhuni is a custom which has been for hundreds of years, maybe thousands, adopted by many wandering spiritual seekers as well as teachers - especially among the Naths and the nagas. A naga could be a Nath, he could be a non-Nath, he could be Dashanami… When they sit in a place, as far as the Naths are concerned, it is a permanent part of their paraphernalia. Wherever they go, they light a dhuni.
Dhuni basically is what you see. Just a small pit, in which fire is put and it’s kept burning. Usually they carry it wherever they go, and fix it - this unfortunate Nath cannot do that… So wherever we go, when it is possible, we light a dhuni.
What is the central thing in a dhuni? What do you see? Would you call it a dhuni if there was no fire? So, fire is the central point of the dhuni.
You see, many who don’t call themselves Naths, but who are recognized as Naths by the Naths, also had their dhuni, including the most illustrious among them that we know. From the time Sri Baba was sitting down in Shirdi, he used to light a dhuni. And among the Naths he’s known as Sri Nath. And that dhuni is still kept burning.
Now, physical significance is - in those days, sadhus, yogis, they lived in the forest, in caves. They did not live in houses. Most of them, at least. So a fire is such an important thing. Today we don’t feel the importance of fire because you have a matchbox, you can light it, and it’s on - you put kerosene on it or something, and it starts. In ancient times, lighting a fire itself was such a difficult process. You had to take a piece of wood, and light it by rubbing a dry piece of wood into it until the spark flies and the fire comes out, and then quickly it should be gathered together and made bigger.
Now, since ancient times, the Upanishads and the Vedas have likened the coming of fire from a dry stick, when churned with another stick, as the lighting of the spiritual fire. And it requires a dry stick - two dry sticks are required. And these sticks which are too soaked with whiskey - ah, I’m sorry *laughter*…. too soaked with various things. So when all these liquids have been dried… when 'all the liquids of the body are dried'… therefore, which means, all the negative qualities have been removed. Which is why again, water is used to wash off. And, when that water which has been washed off is also dried - no more wet - then it's such a dry piece of wood. Two pieces are rubbed together, and there’s a spark…
When the mind has been made absolutely clear and dry, and contains no wetness in it - when such a mind meets another mind that is like that, and rubs together … then, from that journey, a spark comes out. Since ancient times, the rishis would ask, where was this fire before it came out? And the answer was, it was inside, but it has been made manifest through the journey.
So, physically - this is used, when the sadhus travel and live in caves. First as a means of protecting the body from extreme climates. Second, it’s also in the same dhuni that chapatis are made. I’ve travelled with the nagas… when we go for a visit, (sometimes) there is a permanent teakettle sitting on there… It also, in the night, serves to protect you from wild animals. When there is a fire, wild animals generally do not come.
The psychological part is, as I said - the inner spark is ignited by the teacher. And the dhuni is a symbol of that.
Now when I say 'symbol of that', it doesn’t mean it’s merely a symbol!
Among the Naths, there is a particular meditation called Agni meditation, where you sit before the dhuni. I have done this sitting with Babaji. Unfortunately, I don’t think I have that capacity because when he wanted, the flame went up, and when he wanted, the flame went down. I have sat with him face-to-face… And I was taught, to completely open your eyes and watch the flame, and then to close your eyes and visualize it inside. It’s one of the most beautiful ways… it actually burns off many of the leftovers from our past. Just as physically, it’s a symbol of the burning away of all desires. That only fire can do - you can’t wash away all desires with water, but fire can burn away everything.
And it also keeps you constantly exposed to the fact that: this is the end we are all going to come to.
You can say, no we won’t - of course you can, you go to the crematorium. To the same thing - ashes.
So, that is a constant reminder, when you watch the fire. You see how beautifully the flames come, and how warm and nice it is - all that is fine. But you see also this constant burning. You can’t keep the same; tomorrow it’s gone and becomes ashes. So this also illustrates time as it moves, which doesn’t leave anybody.
Baba used to tell me, when you eat food, remember that time is eating you. No one can stop it.
Few years ago, you look different in the mirror. Then again you look - suddenly some wrinkles are coming. See?
So, time cannot stop. It moves. And it burns everything including us into ashes, which is why Shiva is always depicted with ashes all over his body, which he takes from the cremation grounds and puts it on. Nagas always take ashes from the dhuni, and - in public at least, in private they have their own way - but in public they take it and apply it on themselves. It’s also great protection against the cold. You see the naga babas - the nungas (?) - they always completely cover their bodies with ashes, it’s a wonderful protection against the cold. It also shows that, ‘I am from such and such a party that believes we are all going to be reduced to ashes, so I don’t want anything… give me a little food, that’s more than enough.’ So these are some of the significances of the dhuni.
Now, fire is much deeper. It’s a great symbol of the spirit. And, I personally feel - you want to believe it or not, I don’t care - I believe that fire has a life of its own. When it is lit, it is not just a fire, which is an inanimate object - it has a life of its own, which relates to you in a certain way, when you sit for long periods before a dhuni and meditate. It helps to light the inner fire if you meditate on the outer fire.
So, this is an important thing about the dhuni. Fire, as the symbol of the spirit. You light fire - in any object, in anything - the fire always burns up. It does not burn down. You can hold your fuel as far down as possible but the fire is always burning up. So which means, the spirit, however it descends to the earth, it still has an aspiration to go back upwards. So this is also a symbol of the Kundalini fire, that burns inside, and through deep meditation lifts your consciousness to the higher realms.
Fire always has been a symbol of desire. What kind of fire, of course, has to be decided by the human being. Desire is a flame. Some people say we are consumed by the fire. Even anger is a kind of fire. All emotions at their height are fire. You see someone you were in love with in college, you say 'my old flame', you don’t say 'my old water'. So that flame, the igniting of that desire inside, is exactly the symbol of the dhuni. And for that it requires fire.
Any desire that is ignited will burn out what has been offered as fuel to it. So, in the dhuni, you offer the wood.
These are some of the symbols of the fire. So the Agni that you find inside the dhuni, is the symbol of all that we discussed now, plus the practical aspect - that when there is a dhuni, there is no image there. There is a fire. And yet, most people’s attention is automatically concentrated there. Because, everybody knows that fire where it stays is fine, but it is also quite dangerous. It can burn down the whole world. See if you light one flame, or one candle, it’s enough to bring down the complete forest, if used in the proper or improper manner. So again it’s a very potent tool - but for sadhus, the most important thing to understand is to light the inner fire, that consumes all thoughts other than the reaching of perfection. That is the central meaning.”

Excerpts from Guruji"s talk on Dhuni:Pranams ,Guruji.
I dont think we have ever had such profound wisdom on Dhuni earlier from any other saints, as detailed, as He has given here.
    1.Agni meditation:
look at the Agni in Dhuni, for some time and then. close your eyes and visualise that agni spreading inside you.It cleanses all your wild desires and leaves only your desire for perfection.
    2. Agni always rises up, showing the upward thinking to reach high , leaving earthly desires and bonds.
3.Physically, as you go from Hatayoga, keeping body healthy, go inside for inside thri Internal dhuni.
    4. External dhuni adopted by many wandering Teachers and yogis, esp Naths. and Nagas except vaishnavi Nagas.
    5. as far as nags are concerned, Dhuni is permanent Paraphernalia. fire kept burning in front.
    6. Fre is the central point of Dhuni, all nathshad dhuni including the most illustrious Nath, ShirdiSai.. he is known as Sai Nath. Dhuni was kept burning
    7. ancient times Yogis lived in forest, used Dhuni.it keeps warm in cold climates, u can make Rotis and also checks wild animals from coming into ur arena as animals avoid places of fire.
    8. Lightening of spiritual fire.... two sticks, soaked with dirt, washed off, dried, no wetness, and then when rubbed against each other,, fire comes and used for dhuni in ancient times. Dhuni is referred also by Shri Gorakhnath .
    9. when such a mind has been made clear and dry no wetness, when meets an equal mind, and rubs against, spark comes.... some ask where was the fire that got manifested? answer was Fire was inside and came.
10.Psychologically, part, inner spark is lighted by teacher and dhuni is that symbol. ref Agni Meditation. Now I dot have the capsity of My Guru babaji, which could make flame rise up anfddown while I completely open my eyes and watch and close my eyes and visualise it. It is a symbol of burning away of desires. keeps you constantly this the end to which we all going to become . becoming ashes at last.
    11. see how beautiful is the flame but also wood also burning and becoming ash.
when we eat food, remember, time is eating out,Babaji told.
12, you were young now wrinkles appear. old. Time does not stop.
13.Shiva takes ash and applies all over body
Nagas also smear ash and rub allover body as wonderful protection against cold and also show we are all going to become asjes./
14.fffire has a life of its own, it helps lighten inner fire . light fire nany object, it fires upwards, meaning symbol of the spirit, spirit however it descends, it hya aspiration to go up. it is also a symbol of Kundalini fire, the deep inner fire, burning inside thru deep meditation lifts your consciousness to higher realms.. up. it does not blow down.
15.fire is a symbol of desire what kind of desire humans know. anger is kind of fire, someone you meet your old love, you say my old flame is here you do not say old water is here .! Audience laughs..
16.Flame, igniting of the desire, for which it requires fire, is the symbol of dhuni. whatever is ignited, it will burn out., whatever you offered as is pure.
Agni is the symbol of all u discussed here, and Fre has no image, most should focus on Fire, as it can burn down complete forest, proper or improper manner.
    17. all sadhaks, should light the inner fire, very potent, that consumes all other thoughts other than reaching the perfection.this is the central meaning.unless your enthusiasm is fired by it, you cannot water your enthusiasm. everybody cannot aim for it unless one decided, enough is enough, now, we have to move forward.it is not like Fruity shampoo audience laughs......
.Generally, Fire washes and also protects you. Audience laughs. ,
18.Without a basic notion, to move forward, one cannot undertake this, Sathsang ends....
