A very warm embrace that we used to see in Petra's matches. Hope she recover soon and congrat Angie on the first wta 1000 semi final since 2019 Indian Wells
@@BrandonSG13 Well, you both are wrong. 1. Cincinnati is not a Premier Mandatory tournament. So it's not called a "WTA 1000". The only Premier M's are Indian Wells, Miami, Madrid and Beijing. 2. He means the semifinal of a very big tournament, as in Premier Mandatory or Premier 5 (which is the slightly less profitable tournament category, the ones where you get 900 points as the champion). And Bod Homburg definitely doesn't count as a big tournament.
@@kerberno.1982 actually you're right. But cincinnati is still called a wta 1000 tournament. Wta 1000 tournaments include mandatory and non-mandatory tournaments.
The ultimate professionals, so enjoyed this match despite the end. These two never disappoint. They work hard, develop and play hard every match, win or lose.
Every point Kerber won on the 2nd set, she didn't celebrate once as Kvitova was not feeling well. And that warm exchange at the net, which we rarely see on WTA tour. Love that Sportsmanship. Good luck to both.
Petra has to be one of the friendliest players on tour. It also shows the respect both of them have for each other. I love it and as you said, we rarely see that on the WTA tour.
As always, two of the best lefties in the world. Sad to see Kvitova go out with an injury. Both played amazing! Good luck Angie and keep your head up Petra 🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽❤️❗️🎾
playing like at high level like that while sick? props for kvitova. love her even more. love kerber too. hope she finds a way against barty. barty is the only hurdle who can challenge at this point imo
A few takeouts from this match: Angie's counterpunching game holds up.well against big hitters like Petra. When Petra plays without pressure (like she did in that 2nd set), she can hit winners from anywhere and so cleanly. When her game flows she is almost unstoppable. Petra often gets criticized by only having one game plan. Thats power and bashing the ball from.side to side. When she was struggling in that second set she was much more willing to come to the net. I really believe she need to.incorporate that more into get game. She is one of the most talented girls on the tour and a natural volleyer. Its a skill she has been under-utilizing in throughout her career
Two of my favorite players as well, sad that the match had to end in such a way. Wishing Angie the best of luck in the semifinal and also hope that Petra is able to make a speedy recovery.
Props for Petra for playing top level tennis despite being sick and congratulations to Angie Kerber for reaching her first WTA 1000 semifinal after 2 years. Looking forward to Ash vs Kerber.
Petra is deadly with those S+V. Her net play and volleys are immaculate since years back. She must come to the net more often to shorten the points. Use those height and long arm span to her benefit. She tends to miss a lot from the baseline when she gets tired.
So sad that Petra retires from this match with all those strong, angled smashes. Looking forward for her fast recovery and go back to the tennis court. Go and good luck Angie for your next match. #tennisfan
Kvitova has always struggle with the sun and humidity, therefore her best result have always been in Europe or in doors. We can't blame her is her body :(
So true, this is actually very true and a lot of people don’t seem to realize it! She seems to do better in dry climates like Indian wells and Australia!
@@amc6508 she has better results in Australia ever since the put the roof or give her late matches, same at US open they should always schedule her matches at night.
true, but her injury has nothing to do with humidity and temperature. If she hadn't been injured, he would have definitely won this match because she played at such a high level even when she was sick.
The US State Department did not give Pavlyuchenkova a visa to participate in the tournament in Cincinnati. Also, the US State Department denied visas to two Russian athletes to participate in the Diamond League. America has unleashed a diplomatic war, Russia is forced to respond. What a baseness to take revenge on athletes for political reasons.
What a disappointing end to such a dynamic match between two of the better lefties in the ladies tour. Looks like the heat got to Kvitova. I hope to see these two at it again. They are too good to not appreciate.
It is always the same problem, the offensive Player hits the most spectacular points while the defensive "works" for the points. Which is more sexy now for the camera? Without knowing the result you see such "Highlights", oh noooooo Kerber lost again and then the outcome : 6-2 6-2 for Kerber.
I hope Petra be ok, amazing woman, she could've given up sooner but she tried til she had no more strength in this heat of hell, I've been watching tennis for 10 years and I'll never understand why submit athletes to this heat? 10 am to 4 pm is the peak of solar heat, it's inhumane.
We can talk about points of WTA 500 or 1000 value tournaments. It's senseless! The old times haven't been better! Mmh, I'm not sure, smile! If you win over a Higher ranked player you should actually get more point's than normal! Like it used to be ancient times.
I will forever have a dark image of Cincinnati in my head. Cancerlique single handedly ruining one of my all time favorite events. She could lose every remaining match in her career and it still wouldn't be enough of a punishment.
I really despise Kerber in this tournament more than ever. Really just showed how much of a disaster she is to tennis. Fluking wins against the top shotmakers and depriving the tournament of a worthy winner.
The event is not even over yet and I already rank it among top 10 worst events of the last decade. I will never forgive Kerber for what she did these last few days. She's getting her behind handed to her by Farty but she's already done enough damage.
