- Mick Fanning is uninjured after a camera caught him being attacked by a shark during competition at the J-Bay Open at Jeffreys Bay, Eastern Cape, South Africa. The event was canceled after the incident.

I watched this live, it was insane. If he would've got bit it would've been a huge tragedy to the surfing community. Mick Fanning is a legend just like Kelly, AI, and so on. The other surfer Julian Wilson treats Mick as a mentor they are really good friends. During the attack Wilson started to paddle towards Mick to try and help, during Wilson's interview he started to break down crying because he thought he went under when the wave went pass him at 0:07. Surprisingly this was the first shark attack during a comp.

That shark was just very curious..If that shark wanted to get him he would have stood no chance. He was in the water for too long even after the frenzy. Lucky guy💯

This is a nice sport but also can be very, very, very dangerous in shark country.. To me this is like playing Russian roulette, you just never know when a strike will come..I'm just saying..

Well he said he hit it in the back later in the interview. Seems an odd place to pick if you're gonna lie. They also panned away (good job live feed mgr) once they realize it was a shark so it wouldn't be too tragic if it went badly. I'm thinking he did but we couldn't see behind the wave or very well once the camera panned back. Crazy stuff tho, I'd be too scared to even react like he did. His board was beat up too, so it wasn't much fun I'm sure.

Remember everyone sharks 🦈 are misunderstood creatures. Most of shark attacks are because surfer looks like a seal.
