So, I did some research. Hornworms have a semi-distinct heart (aorta), with the vessel running along its dorsal side. It's apparently even visible when the caterpillar is in its final pre-pupal stage/instar. Also fun fact: hornworms grown as feeders that are only fed wheatgerm are turquoise because they don't consume any plant carotinoid pigments. In nature they are green because they eat green plants and absorb the yellowish carotinoids, which visually mixes with their blue blood (which contains the protein insecticyanin) making them appear green. I hope I explained that OK. Always wondered about their coloring in the wild verses as feeders...
@@cryptid-king I've always idly wondered about the colours, too, but never thought to simply look it up. 😆🤷🏼♀️ It's actually incredible how many anatomy papers I found on these guys- apparently they're good analogues for a bunch of different scientific research, so they're very well studied and understood. Their large size makes dissection easier, too. I read _way_ more than I had planned to! Lol

...I suffer from arachnophobia. It was suggested to me that I watch some UA-cam videos of some bigger spiders then work my way down to the smaller ones once I'm comfortable with the movements and postures as it's the smaller spiders that I can't see clearly that wig me out to the point where I freeze in place like a deer caught in the headlights. I live in Ontario so we don't have any big spiders here (that I know of) and you are the person that has the videos that I've chosen to watch. Thank you for your content, I hope this works.
Glad to see he is doing well now i just lost my bearded dragon last night on easter sun i noticed he was off on Fri that he had a black beard that wasnt going away so i called to make an apt ans the closest apt available with a good vet was tues so i totally get it its so hard im on long island new York and while there are a handful of vets near me there is about 2 or 3 max and out of them 2 treat reptiles for emergency but there vet isnt always there so u have to make an apt and a walk in is double the price wwhich had i known that was possible i would have takennhim bit the vet was already gone on fri there exotic vet leaves at 3pm which i just found out the place is now under new management which is why i didn't know that there vet isnt always there anyhow my poor man didnt make it to his apt so its deff scary with reptiles u juat never know whata going on

when green, hornworms are actually toxic to feed to pets! That's why it's so crucial to only feed the blue, farm raised worms!
