    Notice how everybody was not standing behind the 3 point line and waiting to to shoot it. Mid range was open all day.

      Because nobody exploited the three during those early 2000s. Then comes Steph who literally changed everything. 😂

    What a fascinating time capsule; Celtics on a nice winning streak here in December 2003. Eric Williams about to be traded, and Jim O'Brien about a month away from resigning as head coach as a result, which I was always a little sad about. He did a really nice job rebuilding this team after the Pitino era.

    this is the prime years of pierce, bad team but he was good. 5 years later he would drop 41 on lebron in the playoffs, and then another 4 years later (nearly 10 years from this game) he would still be bothering lebron a bit in the playoffs. its pretty crazy when u think about it.

      Prime Paul is way better than Bron. Watch a lakers game. He has no skillset. Cant shoot just bulldoze in pray for a call and complain instead of getting back. Sit at halfcourt or in the corner never go for offensive board get a head start on d lebron. Paul was deadly and could get to a spot and punish you. Bron doesn’t have this ability

      @@TheManUpPodcast Your point is moot at best. LeBron usually got the better of Pierce when Paul was in his prime and both were on subpar teams until Boston got their big 3. This period gets a lot of attention from people pushing the narrative that the big 3 made LeBron leave the cavs. So what are you talking about?

    This was such a bad time for the league. Overall quality was pretty poor. Hand checking and zone was allowed. New talent was young, all 80s and 90s guys were almost gone, and guys weren’t shooting too many 3s outside of maybe Kobe, pierce, walker, Marshall, lewis, Allen, Iverson and almost all of them shot 35% or worse.
    Nostalgia or not, you can’t say the league was too great at this time.

    • @TheManUpPodcast
      @TheManUpPodcast 2 роки тому +12

      This looks better than todays shit if you ask me, bunch of dudes chucking up 3s playing no defense. A bunch of 3balls is less entertaining than seeing guys go 100% all out to the rim IMO.

    • @baseballcharlie
      @baseballcharlie 2 роки тому +7

      That was a great time for basketball, and statistically wasn't very different. The pacing of the game was slower, and they honestly shot more free throws back then. Otherwise, it's just more shot attempts and less free throws in today's game. The league average for 3pt % in 2005 was 35%. Last season it was 36%. The only difference is players today have doubled the attempts.
      3 point shooters? There were plenty. You forgot Peja Stojakovic, Wally Szczerbiak, Michael Redd, Mike Miller, Allan Houston, Steve Nash, Cuttino Mobley, Mike Bibby, Eddie Jones... All of them shot better than 35%. Even Michael Finley improved his 3 point shot and ended up shooting over 40%. That actually prolonged his career.

      Watch the entire games not just the highlights, this current era fans are too caught up with analytics and highlights, teams played inside out, they shoot mid rangers and jump hooks, nowadays even non shooters and jacking 3s and will settle for a fastbreak 3 than lay up, look at how giannis and embiid are murdering people in the paint because new this era doesnt know how to play defense in the paint. Analytics and nerds dictate how the game is played today
