Just turned 20 years old and just recently got into BM and Old School DM they're supreme I've been called a metal elitist for liking this and not the new wave Deathcore scene
Clicked on a totally random metal playlist. I was surprised that this genre was black metal, because it didn’t sound anything like what I was expecting. I kept listening to it because I really liked its calm nature. The solo is what made me love this song even more. Crazy how songs like these fly under the radar for so long.
One of the best songs ever!!! I only understand few words because im Finnish!!! I can listen this over and over again!!! Garm is probably the best Black Metal singer ever...
a masterpiece. removes all the posery elements of the genre and all the satanic elements, and leaves you with a pure half hour of some of the greatest black metal songs ever recorded to vinyl. my desert island disc :)
You can trace the Agalloch, Alcest, Summoning etc sound, and as good and incredible as they are in their own rights, you'll just find yourself back at this remarkable album. hail Ulver.
I fucking agree opeth's first three albums were masterpieces but in our days people love more blackwater park which (sorry for saying that) I dont like
I love nordic black metal from the 90,s. Every time i go on travell to Northern europe i like to listn to it. This Ulver album has a unike folk, dark, pagan feeling on it.
@sfour check out To Bid You Farewell off their Morningrise album. It's a beautiful song, almost rock, evokes all kinds of strange feelings. You can also check songs off Damnation which does not feature death metal, or Ghost Of Perdition and The Leper Affinnity for a heavier hint of them. I personally am a fan of progressive rock too, so their blending it with death metal is really intriguing to me.
My only wish is to die while listening to this song. Drowning in the woods of no return.. with such beauty as this, the world has no more wonders left for me

Guys act normally, they are very diffrent bands, ulver didn't only made black and folk metal, but electronic and ambient too. The leader, Garm, singed with arcturus and made la masquerade infernale adn the sham mirrors, the best avant garde metal albums ever. Still opeth's approach is great, very teathrical and full of excellence. But you can't compare a black/avant-garde/electronic band with a progressive death metal with some folk elements band it's like compare apples and cheese!
I agree with, Sanisaninja..This is allmost the best Black Metal album ever! You people, who don`t know nothing about this music, please do NOT argument, nothing about it! Just stay in London or somewhere else with your oppinions, about this music, because you don`t know nothin`about this kind of music..
Someone can help me? ... Did Winterfylleth made a cover of this song; Led Ashtray in The Dark Forest from their 2016's album sounds pretty much the same... Perfect sounds but, a little confuse about it. May have some difference...
+Liberty Schulz She really doesn't :) I have my own black metal band where I play rythmguitar/vocal, we write, record and produce it ourselves, as well as just getting a deal with Prog Sphere Promotions and Brood of Winter, who by the way contacted us.
40 year old listening to Black Metal. Memories. I really appreciate the young keeping it alive.
41yo here. And Black Metal wasn't a phase. :)
@@ChuckyDoll79 im 99 years old but i did not start to listne to black metal since last year
@@ariarion137 That was a lie, more than 2times!

15 year old here I GOT YOU
black metal can be dirty/aggressive but also very calm and pleasant ( = it can be many things
black metal its heavy and beatiful, some black metal songs can be called masterpieces, dare i say
That vocals are haunting and beautiful. Ulver is a phenomenal band.
Why did Ulver move away from this style. Haunting.
This album is a masterpiece. A gem in the middle of a mountain. I would give anything to walk through that forest while listening to this album.
I cant stop listening to the first solo.
+bloodcorer Then don't.
The whole song's wonderful... but that ending is MAGNIFICENT.

this solo at the end is the most beautiful i've ever heard in my life...
I enjoy all Ulver, but this is by far their best work...and incredibly influential.
Dat final riff! Stunning melody!
One of the best sounds i have ever heard. Thank you Ulver.

The first time I heard 3:18, I lost my shit. The mixture of black metal music and almost Gregorian chants is so awesome
so pure and noble...
is that what i hear? BASS BASSSS YES ULVER, YES!
+a true scotsman uth That is what I have always loved about this album, the fact that you can actually hear the bass.
the bass is similar to Behemoth - grom
Wait, he was 18, not 16. Still incredible that you can do something that great this young.
You may listen to " und Pan spielt die Flöte" from Nocte Obducta.
The songwriter wrote it at 16.
Magnífico 👏🏼
Magic metal... trolsk sort metal.
I wish to wander in magic woods.
The solo at 6:00 is probably the best solo I’ve ever heard
absolutely
That's kinda sad
Hands down one of the best!
@@johannesberger8641how is that sad? Can you provide more awesome riffs Mr.HappyPants?

When I first heard this song in 1997, it changed my life.
Sounds like atmosferic black metal before it was a thing!
Burzum's Aske EP predates this
@@lovofofo Hvis lyset tar oss
This was one of the pioneer albums for the genre
2:52 approaches perfection. It leans towards mid-80s Metallica at their most melodic.
Is it me or dose this album have a emotional feel to it?
This song has excellent atmosphere and production.
Brilliant masterpiece.
This album is a fucking journey start to finish
Such beautiful and uplifting song. I would almost call this "white metal".
this is my fav kind of black metal.
thanks from brazil
This was my alarm tone for years
ulver waren einzigartig.einer der größten sounds aus dem genre "atmosphärischer black metal".
NORWEGIAN BLACK METAL !!!
Black Rose Immortal from Opeth was obviously heavily influenced by this song .
Really? Didn't know Mikael did like Ulver or Norwegian black metal in general
I mean BRI was already recorded 1993, one year before that album as a demo. It's somewhere on UA-cam, I think. Still both are incredible songs.
Who dislikes this masterpiece?
Fools

I first liked this when I was a kid, maybe 11 or 12. Great stuff.
gosh, I wish that this song didn't end
The best band that ever walked the face of earth!
That first guitar solo could be out of a Pink Floyd album
Beautiful Wolves.
I bought this album 14ans ago....❤✴♔✴❤
Although I love their first 4 albums, I wish Ulver had stuck with this style of music. It is cool that they evolved so much though.
Incredible beauty
ending riff sounds sad but hopeful
2:51 Amazing Solo

even the album cover is similar
"Aa, eismal i ein uggin Skog

I Kveld tenkjer ingen paa meg"
UK's Amazon has it, so maybe the US's one has it as well. Worth a check anyway
my favorite Myrkur song
+Thanato15 she's a talentless hipsterbitch with great musicians doing all the work (oh and she stole riffs)

Garm from Ulver is a great musician, not Myrkur.
