I was a member of VMA-214 in the early 70's. We were an attack squadron then flying A-4Fs. Not long after I joined we were assigned brand new A-4Ms which were neat. They ran out of Squadron patches. The Skipper asked me to draw up a new one which I did, but I copied the original. I used to enjoy checking in with my call sign, "Blacksheep such and such". How cool is that! Today 214 is a fighter squadron again, I think and flying F-35's. VMA-214 flew a lot of combat missions in Vietnam.
Pappy Is my 2nd cousin on my grandmother side. Never met him personally. I am from Minnesota. But my grandmother talked about her nephew Alot! We are proud to have him in our family. We have a long line of military men.
I had an OBGYN doctor who would come out into the waiting room and talk about Pappy. He was part of Pappy's squad. Back in 1978. You have every right to be proud!
I have met him and he was a awesome and very caring person. I was head of security at the Pioneer Inn. He asked if I still worked there on their check in. I was never seen him being a ass hole.
I knew of Pappy from various war in the air books. "Black Sheep" was a thrilling show flying my favorite airplane; the F4U Corsair. After serving in the USMC, Vietnam 1967-68, I came home and immediately got into flight training. Commercial licensed fixed and rotary winged with an instrument rating, I planned on retiring with hopes to shuttle flying machines most everywhere. I had to quit flying as pilot in command due to health issues related to my service overseas. Now, I sail just off the coast of Selfridge ANG Base Norh of Detroit. It makes me proud to watch our A-10s and tankers pass over. Great flyers all. God bless you, your staff and veterans.
Thank you for preserving this important history.
We need more people like him

FANTASIC ! Thanks for building this museum and keeping it going !!
Thank you for keeping the memories and sacrificed of my Brothers who have Served before me. I fervently watched Black Sheep Squadron on TV as a child. I was tickled pink to find out that it was based on real people.
Great heroes will never be forgotten. Salute to them all ! From one vet to others.
We need more people in the world like pappy
Absolutely! Pappy Boyington's legacy as a courageous and inspiring figure is truly remarkable. His contributions and leadership continue to inspire us. It's wonderful to see the impact he has made on others. We agree, the world could definitely benefit from more individuals like Pappy who exemplify bravery and determination. Heaven is for Heroes, R.I.P. Semper-Fi.
Thank you so very much for keeping things out of memory hell
Went to Arlington to pay my respects to Pappy
We as a nation needs to preserve and protect the men and women’s memories of WWI and WW2 for what they did for us as a nation and education of the young don’t let there memories die to know where we as a nation is going in the future we must know where we came from in the past!
He also attended school in Okanogen Washington.
The U.S. top Ace if WW2 is Richard I Bong with 40 kill's and he is a Medal of Honor recipient to...
There is a state park in Wisconsin named in his honor. Unfortunately idiots giggle at the name Bong thinking it's a dope smoking reference. Great fighter pilot.
WW2 ... America's finest hour
Do you have the Boyington dvd of his AA audio? He talks about his time in AA rehab.
Richard Bong has a nice museum in superior Wisconsin. P-38. Surely these two have met. Any thoughts?
Unlikely. Bong was killed in Aug 1945 testing a P-80 jet. Pappy was liberated from a Japanese POW in Sept 1945.
Pappy vs saburo. Who would win ?
Awesome looking collection
Where in Idaho?
Unfortunately they moved from their site near the Coeur d' Alene Airport in Hayden Idaho in January of 2017, am not sure if they found another location for the museum.
The dramatic violins are not an enhancement to the otherwise excellent video
We aren't hell. We are heaven.
Hmm. Who won the Midway? Pappy Boyington. Salute.

Concurrently, we are creating an online digital history presence for the museum. Your help is needed to encourage the Kootenai County Commissioners to support the veterans museum. We are a 501(c)(3) non-profit so a donation of land, buildings, airplanes or cars can be deducted. (check with your accountant). We could possibly be interested in a building not owned by the museum if it had a long term lease. Museums DON'T make money and are very lucky to even break even…they are created by and for people wanting to preserve the history of our great nation. We need YOUR support…please donate. I WISH THEY WOULD PUT THE TV SERIES BAH BAH BLACK SHEEP BACK ON TV.
They told me everything in there was original I said how about that plexiglass is that original? They said get the F out and never come back.
No disrespects just truths Foss had more Ariel victories.
Joe had blue chinese eyes.
Was it true that Pappy was by and large a drunken misfit?
Greg B. was an alcoholic but died sober.
Ask the men who flew with him!
Touche.
Pappy even described himself as a "bum", but such humility only adds to his hero status. He was a talented combat leader and an aggressive fighter pilot and deserves our respect.
