Connection to country makes Zac feel free as a bird | Heywire | ABC Australia

Zac is a young Barkindji man from Mildura VIC. When he goes out on country with his dad and uncles, he can feel his ancestors in the earth and see his totem in the skies.
Bilyara, or the wedge tailed eagle, patrols the skies above Zac as they have done for generations. It is his totem, his protector. Bilyara watches as Zac dances to connect to the spirits and the land, as many men before him have on that same sand.
And one day, Zac will pass this on to his own kids so they can dance where he once did, under the same skies.
