@@realtoytrainstake my advice if I wanted a locomotive to pull it considering the route for the train is impossible for any train if it was as close as it gets to real life grades I would want something like the 4014 or even the 1218 fast freights and both powerful locomotives
Well when I saw the title "I Pulled The Polar Express With WHAT?!" I was prepared to be shocked, if not horrified! Thankfully I couldn't be happier! Well, MAYBE with the exception of those New Haven FL9 diesels, In my opinion the Polar Express should be steam-hauled but I SUPPOSE I can make an exception for those classic old NH cab units. I think your concept was very clever and in a way pretty authentic. As a "real" Polar Express passenger consist traveled across the country I could very well see it being handed off to the various 'roads it would travel on and those 'roads putting their best power on the head end. From South to North and through the West in turn we might see N&W's Class J 611, the Nickle Plate's 765, Union Pacific's 844, the NYC's 6005 Niagara, and then a New Haven Pacific 1370 for the sprint to the Pole. PERSONALLY I'd have N&W's Class J "Mighty 611" who the wife used to call "My engine!" the BEST steam passenger locomotive ever built pull the PE all the way. But hey, I'm easy. Wy not share the glory? Anyway, it looks like Olaf the Snowman likes 'em all and I won't argue with Olaf! Thanks for posting, and a Merry Christmas to you and yours!
This was tough. Since there were the traditional cars for the PE, the New Haven looked most at home pulling them. For the big locos, as much as I like the 611 as the best loco, the NYC 4-8-4 looked better pulling those cars. I did not like the UP. It looked odd. That’s my 2cents.
