I actually adore how rough he actually began his drawing. I always see myself wanting to add very large details very early on. This helped a lot thanks !
I notice a lot of people who complain about not being able to draw suffer from this. like most people have never heard of a rough sketch and immediately try and fail to do a drawing like in the video.
Note the finished drawing you can see on my channel :)
+TheBoxOfficeArtist Your work is amazing!!!! I made a great choice by subbing to you!! Keep up the stellar work!!!
Ps. The hardest part of this for me is always coming up with the pose. Any suggestions on how to create a pose?
Amazing video! I love that not only were you very thorough in explaining each step, but you also have been very active afterwords in the comments figuring out what people liked and what you can improve. Keep up the good work!
Hey man is that the host of sourcefed in justice league form in your back? If yes do you have a video of you drawing it?
**Sketches out in ink for a tutorial**
I wish i had this mans confidence
I've been trying to create poses on my characters roughly like 5-6 hours because i don't want their bodies look stiff. While watching this video, i was dumbfounded that this method make it more easier to draw. Thank you box office artist, I will subscribe at your channel.
His rough sketches of the hands are amazing! Hands are usually one of the few things that trouble me when drawing (especially on a small scale because of the difficulty in controlling line weight). James is crazy talented and crazy committed (see the Star Wars tribute he is currently working his ass off on for Comic Con)! Mad props!
His skeleton poses make me soooo uncomfortable, like i dont understand where hes going with them until he puts the meat on the bones and then im like ohhhh shit!
I can do the skeleton but I can't imagine the form over it.
I hear ya. Maybe try posing in the mirror and see how your muscles twist. Pay attention to the lines, aka perspective. If you are really struggling, maybe try some 2d /3D perspective drawing.
When I was little I traced a whole bunch. I think that really helps to train your brain on how the body should be positioned when posing.
+Ian Greer I totally agree and I did the same when I was young too :)
What you need to do, is to gather up a bunch of good bodyrefs that you are curious about.. and then start to do it the other way around. Find the joints, make the skeleton on top of the full form.
Reverse engineering is how you figure out a ton of stuff.
I love that I can absorb a little bit of technique each time I watch a video like this. Seeing the rough sketches has been very helpful! I've had to get over the idea of everything looking clean through every stage of the drawing. I'm going to try to push some more dynamic forms in my next session, twist and bend the skeleton.
he starts like some garbage and somehow in few mins turns out it into a finished piece.......
fan of the style
it's so satisfying reading these productive and positive comments in tutorials rather than ppl fighting about whether biggie was better than tupac or sumthin
I discovered this video (as well as Jazza and James Raiz) and this is responsible for upping my game in shading and just was an awesome video aid.
Thanks both of you, 7 years later and my art continues to improve and thank you guys for getting me back into drawing.
This is a favorite of mine! It outlines sooOO much that leads leads to a great free style of drawing... for so many other realms of expression!! Thanks James...
I can’t believe this was posted two years ago, I remember getting the notification and watching it like it was yesterday (these r like my favorite UA-camrs too)
James is the most skilled artist I've ever seen in UA-cam, and Jazza is the one that has inspired me the most, I'm so glad they're doing things together I hope they collaborate more in the future
It's always enjoyable to see how other artists work. Much to learn. Thanks.
watching you draw the poses actually made me see lots of things. since im no good with posing. I always stand my characters straight up if I ever Draw them whole. so This Kinda helped alot and will absolutely study more anatomy. :3 this was awesome
Absolutely amazing tutorial, loads of excellent information, tips and advice. Thanks to both of you.
Thank you so much! 'Cause of you now I can draw comics much better
I feel much confident now!
Been a fan of this guy since his second ever video. Really a man worth watching, as he have talent for days and is such a kind and humble person.
Good job once again, James :)
Thank you buddy for the kind words - you've been a loyal follower for a long time - I really appreciate it - thanks so much :)
Making the sounds of the character as you draw aaaaahh childhood memories!
Your art ROCKS!!! The way you stretch your characters till it looks like their very last muscle fibers are about to split at the seams is amazing! I've been watching your vids and I'm trying to combine your style with this artist Yoji Shinkawa, the dude that does the metal gear solid art. His art is very fluid yet the muscles he draws have a little edge to them, like the lines are somehow more jagged but yet fluid. If I can get your dynamics with his edgier definition I will be super satisfied. Keep doing your thing man great stuff!!
Very talented!, after watching this video i realized i want my style to be in a comic style, but more conformed to my personality , thank you for helping me with construction as well!
that wingblade in the back was phenomenal ...and I've never could use the stick skeleton I go straight to the rough meat sketch
Perfect! I was just looking to improve my body proportions in art further! I'm happy to have stumbled upon this!
Im in my Junior year earning my BFA in illustration. This has been a a GREAT block of instruction. Its going hand and hand with my anatomy class! I cant wait to draw some covers pages and panels.... using this new knowledge!
You have to be pretty familiar with anatomy from the skeleton on to the muscles and finer details in order to take this process through to the finish. Always be working on your life drawing skills (figure drawing). The best advice I've been given throughout my college career is to move from general concepts of what you are drawing/painting to specific. Your knowledge of the subject can carry you through it afterwards.
You guys are the most amazing artists I’ve ever seen
I love traditional art, so much more impressive than all that digital stuff we see these days.
I Literally just found TheBoxOfficeArtist like 10 minutes ago, which inspired me to want to draw again, making me come back here (Ive been a loyal draw with jazza viewer for a bit over a year by the way)
THANK YOU SO MUCH! I've been struggling with drawing different poses
Haiii, Jazza!
You should make a forum on your website, that way people can share their artwork and have it critiqued. It's kind of like Sycra's forum, but I noticed on there everything is more professional and realistic and most of his audience is way different from yours, so it isn't that good a forum for people like me...
Hope you like the idea, I think it could really be a great idea but if it's too much work you don't really have to.
would be awesome! newgrounds has an art forum that would work as well
It would be cool if their be 3 like subreddits (just the idea of a subreddit) for beginners , good, and profesonals.
Im really sry for my english hope you understand what i posted
That's just amazing!!!!! I've always wondered how to draw like that just wow 😳
This was a great video, thanks so much for making it. It really helped
All very good, but how do you make the decision for how big/small etc when foreshortening? I realise experience is indispensable, but is there, like, procedure?
2 favorite comic style artists in 1 video
Wow this is amazing, it looks so easy when he is doing it :O
watching him turn these scribbles you into beautiful artwork makes me cry
Great video for learning poses and proportions!
This video and drawing technique fits well in my art class at high school :) THANKS A LOT JAMES!! I hope my teacher will be surprised!! LOL
if this guy drew a scribble it would literally be a masterpiece- literal perfection
i have to watch this again, there were so many awesome tips
I know this is from 5 years ago, I have been wanting to learn to draw android type human, this video has given me more perspective on how to do it.
Thank you so much!!!!!! I really needed a video line this! Thank you so much jazza and james
This has really helped me out a ton. Starting to understand that having a strong fundamental, skeletal piece usually means that the developed piece will be that much better. Perhaps there is hope for me after all :P
I loved the vid! You are exactly the kind of teacher I needed, now if you'll excuse me I gotta binge watch all your vids
This helped me a lot. Thank you so much.
One of the most helpful videos
just awesome!!! I like it
This is the first time I’ve ever seen a drawing tutorial full of comments that say this was helpful lol thanks James!
Well, after that, how can I NOT hit that subscribe button? Awesome work, gentlemen!
In France! Welcome Jazza! I'm a french fan😁
This was amazing and helped me alot. Thanks!
Thank you for the video! I got really into comics and such after deciding to go back to the mmo DC Universe Online. Before the only superhero stuff I liked were Deadpool and My Hero Academia. Afterwards though, I watched Venom, just saw Into the Spiderverse aaaand now I’m hooked. Going to be hitting up the local comic shop after school tomorrow. 🤗 So I figured, might as well learn the basics of drawing the style! 👌
This was awesome and helped a lot! Thank you!!
THANK YOU JAZZA! thanks for introducing us this amazing artist James ! I am amazed ! Thats what i apreciate about you, that you true artist in your heart ! will there be any interview with this guy ? i would love it !

I saw the thumbnail and yeah, thought it was strange Jazza could be so similar to This guy's style xD (I keep forgetting his name). Now I know why, Jazza doesn't go about them inks XD but very nice! More teachings of TheBoxOfficeArtist, why not!
Haha he keeps saying "right" :D Good tutorial!!
This was AMAZING

Great job James
How have I not discovered your channel before? I need this, I have a quarter of skill to make drawings like this
I'm liking the 'knee in the front'
Hi Everyone! Thanks again to my buddy Jazza for letting me overtake his channel once again! Please leave your comments and I'd love to answer each and every one of them :)
Love your work! Definitely subcribing!
+xxmanuu thanks so much!
really interesting, I have always loved comics and drawing like them and have been forever, love the style. Something i have been doing is putting a thick black edge around the sides to exaggerate them, do you recommend that? (ignore the name)
Do you always sketch the entire skeleton or can you skip some of it when you are trained enough because you feel like it takes too much time
thank you very much!
