You have a very good memory to remember the intricacies of the solo. Or maybe your playing along with song in earpiece and receiving cues what to play.

Lots of time memorizing, then recording my guitar over the isolated bass/drums. Intense focus for q couple days.

I recall Robbie say that he really didn't have any musical influences.....and to that I call B.S.
    None the less, fantastic musician....
    Great video!!!!!!

Robby has a very musical approach, his solos might not be as sophisticated as some players but always distinctive and very fitting to the songs, less-is-more and all that!

Great lesson, as always! Is the solo built around a Dorian scale?

Not sure. I've seen another YT guitar guy say that, so it may very well be

This solo is a perfect example of "painting outside the lines". Robbie was about 21 when this was recorded and he only started seriously playing guitar at 17 so he was still honing his chops. But he played what "felt" right and sounded good, even though it did not fit the traditional rock music theory (major/minor pentatonic or straight blues scale) or any other particular scale. (The solo sounds like a phrygian mode to me.) Ultimately, it's a great solo because it fits the tone and feel of the song.

    Nice job!
Im 69 and remember when the single came out with the edited solo.
I couldn’t get the LP fast enough. When I put it on I was treated to this “composition within a composition” ( the best solos are always this) that most radio stations didn’t play.
I never learned it in 50 years of playing but thanks to your lesson I’m going to work on it.

    Wow! Great tutorial!!
60's and 70's played the soundtrack of our lives.
I was visiting my sis and bro-in-law sometime in 1968 when he put on this LP. I was about 12 at the time. Anyway, he got out headphones for me to listen to this track. My first song with headphones...I was hooked.

I see that your SG has P90s just like Robbie had on his first SG. Although it got stolen..... I like the sound of the P 90s as opposed to the humbuckers. Carlos Santana had a SG with P90s on his first few albums. Humbuckers have their place...... thanks for your videos.....

Helpful breakdown of the chords progression for the Intro/outro sections.
The chord sequence never made sense until you pointed out the chords are a fourth apart and mostly E shaped barre chords.
You’re breakdown on the solo is spot on. There’s so many tasty sections to the minor key solo.
    Big Up !!!❤

Question, what is the tiny amp brand sitting above the fender blond bassman amp? thanks

    • @12footchain
      @12footchain  4 місяці тому

its a late 50s/early 60s Bogen PA amp that was converted for guitar. lots of great overdrive tones in those PA conversions, not great for clean in my experience, but absolutely amazing for overdrive sounds when you turn them up.

I'm such a Huge Doors Fan!!! And, this is just a Masterpiece of Music - I'm Definitely of The ORGANIC FEEL MODE of Music - I think When you Combine with a Somewhat Defined GROOVE, that it is When The MAGICK of Music can Happen!!!!
