I'm facing amputation but above the knee so watching your videos is helping big time!

Faye Ann I'm so sorry that you are having to go down that road, and I know that is a hard decision to make... But I am so happy that I am able to help in some way. Always here if you have any questions or if I can help in any way.

I can't say it's fun, but at least for me, I can now do a lot more than I was before my amputation. I wish you all the luck in the world as you work your way through this journey

I am going to have a bka in sept due to chronic pain. I can’t walk more than a few blocks and can no longer wear a shoe. Any advice you can offer me? Are you better off now then you were then? I just don’t wanna make a big mistake.

It's not all roses, but life wasn't all roses before my amputation either. I can walk now, and before I struggled to just cross the road. I would say that I am much better off compared to where I was and again way better off than where I would have been today. My best advice is to take the time to heal, pushing things too hard to soon will guaranteed set you back at least temporarily, and possibly permanently. Outside of that, do your research, understand the surgery, and educate yourself on types and quality of prosthetics. It will be up to you to get what you need, don't leave it up to somebody else to decide what they want to sell you.

@@ReneeShadley thanks for the reply! I have been talking to a few amputees and based on the feed back I am getting, I am pretty certain that I am making the right decision. I am now pretty much only able to walk in sandals and nothing else and even that is very painful. Work is very difficult since I have to run medications around the hospital ect. I talked to amputee who just took place in a karate tournament, something I could never dream of doing right now. There are just so many things I want to do in my life that I can’t or won’t be able to do if I stay where I am at right now. I am only 37 y/o and have a young family so I gotta be able to keep up with them. If I was 70 or older I don’t think I would consider such an extreme measure. Thanks for the advice, I work in healthcare and know the system well so I will be an advocate for myself and make sure I get the right prosthesis for me. Thanks!

how did you break your ankle and was that the cause of the requirement for the amputation?, it seems a little extreme

Xantec spiral fracture when I was 17,stupid accident roller skating. Yes it is extreme, unfortunately I didn't have any other options, after premature wear over the past 23 years, there was nothing the doctors could do to help me move forward.
