I'm possibly having one put in next week if my weight keeps going down + my heart continues to be problematic from everything. It's meant to feed me 24/7 and I don't know if I'm able to eat or drink with it, especially icypoles - they help me a lot when I'm sick. Thanks
I hated going through this. I was terrified. I remember I would try to get away from it. I would climb up on to the top of the bed and then the doctors and nurses literally had to pull me back down to the bottom of the bed and restrain me from moving while they were putting the tube in. It was the worst procedure I’ve EVER had to go through, and hopefully I’ll never have to do it again.
It's good that you don't. I know the feeling of having to be restrained to have it in. What size tube did you have and did the doctor remind you to keep swallowing. Otherwise it hurts and you'll choke. When I had my first in they didn't tell me and I had never had one before so I chocked, they then told me that I had to swallow... 😐
when i got it it was one of the most painful experiences ever, the nurse put it in wrong and it screwed up something in my nose and it started bleeding everywhere

I have an ng tube. I'm 23 and have anorexia and I HATE it!! I'm on my 18th tube because I've bitten and or pulled it out 😔 Now on the 28th of August I'm on my 33rd tube
NG tubes suck, man. I feel you. I also had one for my ED. I actually knew a girl who would get really physically sick after she ate to the point of vomiting. One time she puked and her tube came up through her mouth 😣 she had to pull it out herself and she got a new one placed in. That's honestly the reason why I never purged when I had mine.
1974poundcake That’s not how it works. Anorexia Nervosa is specifically a Mental illness, which causes the thoughts that trigger someone to stop eating. If you have Anorexia, you can physically eat. It’s the built up depression, anxiety, and fear that makes your brain stop you from putting food in your mouth. It’s very different from an instance where someone is physically unable to eat because of a disability or injury.
Anyone that has to go through this is brave asl. I had to go to the doctors the other day. They had to put something up my nose but it didn’t go far. But it still hurt. I remember pulling my head back because it hurt so bad. I could never imagine going through this. I am so sorry for anyone that has to go through this. And I wish you the best❤️
I’ve had plenty of ng tubes. I put them in myself now because of a horrible experience where the nurse forced one that was too big and it broke catalidge in my nose and scratched down my throat. When done correctly and with the right size for your body it should be alright. My throat gets irritated easily so I have to change mine every 2-3 weeks but other than that they’re fine. If you think about feeling it you can feel it
Lol the first couple times I had one placed at the Mayo Clinic, it was excruciatingly painful. And one of the times they hit a blood vessel in my nose and blood sprayed out everywhere 😬
mine wasn’t actually that bad! my nose felt funny, drank some juice and it was over. once you get the tube in, i find it helps to sleep afterwards so that your body can get used to the tube and you don’t have to experience the discomfort :)
Bravery is when it’s a choice and you choose to do something even though you are scared. The vast majority of children don’t consent to this because children have extremely limited medical rights. They are forced. This is different. I had bad medical procedures as a kid and I hated when people would say I was brave because brave is choosing to do it and I didn’t get that option. An example of what is actually brave is when I decided to get my ears pierced even though I’m scared of needles, because I made the choice.
Why are we still doing these without numbing or sedation? I have one in now and it’s the worst! My nose started bleeding clots and I projectile vomited everywhere
I've had an NG tube before I was terrified but it was not as bad as I thought. I am having another one and I'm even more terrified I hope everything goes well
I have an NG tube, having it put in was awful, I was still gagging an hour after. I feel the tube a lot, whenever I swallow it hurts, when I'm eating stuff gets caught on it and I choke, when I take a deep breath in or swallow the tube gets sucked further down my throat, it pulls on my nose, it's horrible. I can't wait until I get a peg put in!
I’ve had at least 3 since January of 2017 they aren’t that bad. What I hate is when you walk around the tube kept gagging me. When I was getting mine placed I wasn’t able to have any fluids.
Emma Reinhart I didn't have water when mine was done either. I find that I have to ask of they can secure the tube to my nose or just underneath with some kind of special sticky tape. Otherwise I find that whenever I move, it moves.... that's horrible but if you have it secured there and the usual cheek plaster should make it fine... What size is your ng tube though... mine was an 8 French (8fr)
Denise Shephard I’ve had a tube twice and I’m actually getting another today I’m watching for re assurance when I’ve had mine previously the first day I had a scratchy throat but after that it’s all normal
They arent actually uncomfortable. You get used to it being put in. Then again I am on my 33rd tube since the 12th of july. Anyway as long as the nurse does it properly and knows what she's doing and you swallow as soon as it enters your nose you should be fine. The nurse should tell you to swallow constantly as it goes down. If you don't swallow THEN it'll be painful... Mind you I have anorexia so I HATE the tubes and would never have it in willingly. Hence why I'm on my 33rd tube... Having it in is okay but it can get uncomfortable... Then again though what size tube did you have put in... mine was an 8 French (8 fr)
I have one in my nose rn and it wasn't painful it was just uncomfortable. I only need it in for a few weeks but I still can feel it but not much i can only feel it when i eat or drink
hi, for anyone who says it hurts too have an ng tub in, i can explain why. with my two years experience of having ng tubes in, I've learnt this... if you try to struggle or resist, it WILL HURT; this is because, when you resist your nose shrinks and this is why it hurts. Because imagine trying too push something up where there's no room too push it up. your nostril closes up when you resist making it hard for the tube to pass through, therefore creating pain. so my advice is, I know how horrible it is too be forced to have an evil tube up, but if you resist you'll only make it more painful for yourself. TRUST ME I know how horrible the tubes are. If you don't let them do what they will eventually manage too do, pain or no pain, it'll just hurt you! Truth is, is that if you don't have a choice too put it in, they'll just do it and succeed eventually; no matter how hard you make it for them. Remember, it only hurts us; not them! Best thing too do is too swallow too avoid the pain and too get it in without it going in your lungs. trust me, mine comes out weekly an I don't like it any more than you do!!
I have had 4 before , but today they have already tried 3 times and once it was only 3 cm away from the end but I coughed and gagged and pulled it out. I have very severe anxiety and I was getting a attack then, they say they need to try again in a few hours I’m so scarec
@@mabelsyrup6366 aww hugs! I'm anorexic so i can sympathise. Maybe ask if they can give you a sedative to help you relax. Why do you a tube? try to relax and keep swallowing and it won't be painful. keep me updated!
horselover7216 thank you! I’m sorry you have to suffer from this disorder like me :( but for now there is no tube, I don’t think I’ll be able to eat so they probably will put it after lunch time ( abt 1 hr from now 🥺 ) and usually I’m fine with the tube, but my throat still hurts a bit from yesterday. But I’m definitely going to try my best, and if I cough or gag I’ll try not to pull it out. I am a bit more relaxed today... I’m still scared though :( any tips for the sore throat?
@@mabelsyrup6366 yeah, it sucks :( hugs! I'm sorry you have to go through it too! how old are you? So another trick is that you take sips of water through a straw as the tube goes in as it'll help you swallow. If, however, like me you can't; I'd just keep dry swallowing all the time. It's tricky for the first part until it gets down through the hole to your throat. What i do is open my mouth first and then swallow, this helps, not sure why... keep swallowing at all times because if you stop, it'll hurt. it's easier said than done but try to relax. The more you tense up, the more painful it'll get. Maybe watch something on your phone while they are doing it to help distract you. they will try to use lubricant on the tube, don't let them! Ask for them to just dip the tube in water too help it go down. Lubricant tastes VILE and it burns the back of my throat. at first the tube may hurt the side of your nose, but you'll get used to it. when the tube is in, I tend too use a lot of tape as having it taped to one spot allows the tube too move in and out and i hate that! I use tape from my cheek all the way to the bottom of my nose so it's fully secured. good luck today and keep me updated!
horselover7216 thank you! So far I’ve just managed to eat... but I can’t do dinner. I always sip water when I get it put in, and the weird thing is I’ve had it 4 times, and it went fine almost every time and I barely even felt it going in, but now it’s terrible, I can’t stop coughing and gagging, which causes me to panic and pull it out. They always use lubricant, they don’t use it as a option , and they put it in my nose first then also on the tube. I’m used to the burning feeling, it’s fine for me 🤷🏻♀️ but question, my throat kind of hurts ( like I have a cold exept I don’t??) so is it the same? Or is it different because my throat hurts? Also hugs and I’m 13 1/2 ʕ•ᴥ•ʔ wbu? Xox
Once I had a feeding tube when I was 13 to 15 and they put it in my nose and went down to my stomach it’s was so embarrassing and uncomfortable the tube was in my stomach for 15 years and I’m 2017-2019 now I’m 17 I don’t have the feeding tube anymore.

I had an NG tube because I had a bowel obstruction. It is one of the most horrific feelings I think. Especially when it goes in your lungs and then you cough uncontrollably. And then when they finally get it in you gag it up… I was 10.
Question... I'm very sensitive to things being in the throat in that space between nose and mouth... is the tube really noticable being there? Like I feel it would cause me to constantly want to snort it back to clear the passageway or a constant urge to swollow... Not sure if that makes sense
I'm so scared. I've been having sudden severe stomach pains and so I went to my doctor and he said one of the tests he wants to do is a breathing test where he's gonna put a tube in my nose, through my throat, to my stomach he said. I'm so scared! Is he gonna give me medicine beforehand to make me sleepy at least? So I don't instinctively fight the doctors cuz the pain will make me react and I will fight the doctors just reaction from pain even if I don't wanna cause them trouble but I think they might have to hold me down if they don't give me a drug or something

@@愛-t9w Are you alright? Because I'm afraid that living with the belief of nobody caring, or on the contrary everyone caring, is a great testament to the state of your wisdom. It's actually impossible for nobody to care about something unless they all have absolutely no idea what the subject is, or that it even exists. You see, I feel completely ignored here. I must say, I do care about this person at least a little bit - even if they are a stranger. Maybe you should go take a class on humanity. It's not illegal, I've had tubes put in while I've been pinned down to the bed screaming, crying and trying to get away; I've even had the tube go somewhere it shouldn't have gone which stopped me being able to breathe but i couldn't tell the staff that because i had my arms help down It's legal, it may not be nice but if it's in your best interest they will do it no matter what

Minta Penman At the time I had my NG Tube in, I was very young and in a very bad Mental state. I was also very uncooperative with the Doctors and Nurses. I hated any idea of people telling me about my Health and how I could improve it. I was pretty much delusional and sick. However, in your case, it’s a medical problem that is Physical. If your Doctor says that is what is best for you, and can provide a logical explanation for the Tube, then all you can do is stay calm and distract yourself. Tell yourself that this isn’t going to put you in jeopardy in any way, and that your doctor knows what they’re doing. I can tell you it will feel a little uncomfortable at first, but it isn’t that bad. I’m sure they will give you some water as well, to help it get down a bit easier. I also promise that if you’re willing to cooperate with the Doctor and Nurses, you won’t have any problems. Tons of people before you have gone through the same sort of thing, and they’ve turned out just fine. ;) Don’t worry too much about it. No matter what, the world will keep spinning. Also, may I ask how old you are?
Minta Penman Lol sorry I keep commenting under your name. Tip: Make sure you swallow while the tube is being inserted, or better yet ask for a glass of water with a straw. It’ll be a lot easier. If you don’t swallow while it’s being inserted, then it’ll most likely be painful.

I have a tip: try not to throw up while you have one in if you can help it, because I was having a panic attack which caused me to throw up and my tube came out my mouth in a loop which caused me to choke, luckily a nurse came in and took it out before any damage could have been done. Now on the 28th of August I'm on my 33rd tube
horselover7216 after u bite it off like do they force another tube on u?
NG tubes suck, man. I feel you. I also had one for my ED. I actually knew a girl who would get really physically sick after she ate to the point of vomiting. One time she puked and her tube came up through her mouth 😣 she had to pull it out herself and she got a new one placed in. That's honestly the reason why I never purged when I had mine.
horselover7216 Wishing you the best of luck, and a healthy recovery. I get that it can be difficult to deal with. Just know that you are loved! ;D
START EATING LIKE NORMAL PEOPLE AND YOU WONT NEED FEEDING TUBES..
I’ve had it 50+ times it’s so hard I currently have one as I’m waiting on a permanent surgical tube
If you think about feeling it you can feel it
I had one in and I felt it ALOT 🤕😖
ZoeAndKira 192 same
ZoeAndKira 192 Ibfs?
I think that's normal
Same especially when you swallow
Lol the first couple times I had one placed at the Mayo Clinic, it was excruciatingly painful. And one of the times they hit a blood vessel in my nose and blood sprayed out everywhere 😬
mine wasn’t actually that bad! my nose felt funny, drank some juice and it was over. once you get the tube in, i find it helps to sleep afterwards so that your body can get used to the tube and you don’t have to experience the discomfort :)
You are really brave! I cried and screamed when I had mine in guess it shocked me how uncomfortable it felt
I swear children are much braver than most adults!!
No kids just are to scared to move or ask any questions or anything like that
Bravery is when it’s a choice and you choose to do something even though you are scared.
I am having another one and I'm even more terrified I hope everything goes well
hope it goes well
@@Ruby-vk8rk thanks.. I goy it in and its not too bad

Well it was hell having a NG to for me all though I coughed it out at night :p
i know that feeling but for me i vomited it up
I have an NG tube, having it put in was awful, I was still gagging an hour after. I feel the tube a lot, whenever I swallow it hurts, when I'm eating stuff gets caught on it and I choke, when I take a deep breath in or swallow the tube gets sucked further down my throat, it pulls on my nose, it's horrible. I can't wait until I get a peg put in!
I’m belive I’m getting one of Thursday and I’m a teen - I’m so scared rn because Ik how painful or uncomfortable it might be 🙏🏼😭💀❤️❤️
I’ve had at least 3 since January of 2017 they aren’t that bad.
What size is your ng tube though... mine was an 8 French (8fr)
ng are very uncomfortable it helps with feeding but it causes pain
Denise Shephard They way I remember it, it wasn’t painful to me. I was also very young at the time, so I could be wrong.
I just had mine done yesterday

I have one in my nose rn and it wasn't painful it was just uncomfortable. I only need it in for a few weeks but I still can feel it but not much i can only feel it when i eat or drink
hi,
for anyone who says it hurts too have an ng tub in, i can explain why. with my two years experience of having ng tubes in, I've learnt this...
if you try to struggle or resist, it WILL HURT; this is because, when you resist your nose shrinks and this is why it hurts.
I’m sorry you have to suffer from this disorder like me
:( but for now there is no tube, I don’t think I’ll be able to eat so they probably will put it after lunch time ( abt 1 hr from now 🥺 ) and usually I’m fine with the tube, but my throat still hurts a bit from yesterday.

Mine hurt repaly bad :( they messed up the first time , and they put it back in and it was a pretty big one too
I had an NG tube because I had a bowel obstruction. It is one of the most horrific feelings I think. Especially when it goes in your lungs and then you cough uncontrollably. And then when they finally get it in you gag it up… I was 10.
Hey. I might have to get one.. when the fluids were going up the tube could you feel it going into your body? And did it hurt?
Question... I'm very sensitive to things being in the throat in that space between nose and mouth... is the tube really noticable being there? Like I feel it would cause me to constantly want to snort it back to clear the passageway or a constant urge to swollow... Not sure if that makes sense
it is for me but for u it might be different
I’m getting one tomorrow I can’t stop crying this is hhorrible

@@愛-t9w Are you alright? Because I'm afraid that living with the belief of nobody caring, or on the contrary everyone caring, is a great testament to the state of your wisdom. It's actually impossible for nobody to care about something unless they all have absolutely no idea what the subject is, or that it even exists.
You see, I feel completely ignored here. I must say, I do care about this person at least a little bit - even if they are a stranger.
Maybe you should go take a class on humanity. And really pay attention when it is explained how everyone will think slightly differently. Not everyone thinks the same way you do (this means some people think a bit differently than you). Also make sure to pay attention to the empathy section! I think you could really use more knowledge on this as well.
One more thing, the word 'yo' is not needed in that sentence. You're also missing a period.
How long does an NG tube stay inside of your body?
They usually keep it in as long as you need it- it could be for just an hour or a few days or a few months or even years depending on why you need it

She is obviously having a panic attack and I thought that when patients have anxiety, A NASAL FEEDING TUBE IS NOT THE RIGHT OPTION FOR THEM? This is illegal and the medical professionals should go back to training.
It's not illegal, I've had tubes put in while I've been pinned down to the bed screaming, crying and trying to get away; I've even had the tube go somewhere it shouldn't have gone which stopped me being able to breathe but i couldn't tell the staff that because i had my arms help down

I used to have a NG tube when I was little. I hated the insertion part. They never told me to drink water. They had to get 4 or 5 nurses to pin me down to get it in me. One of the most uncomfortable feelings in the world, and I’m glad I don’t have one right now.

Tons of people before you have gone through the same sort of thing, and they’ve turned out just fine. ;)
Don’t worry too much about it. No matter what, the world will keep spinning.
Also, may I ask how old you are?
Minta Penman Also, it isn’t painful, just uncomfortable. It’s not like a Shot or an IV. It just feels strange until it’s where it’s supposed to be. ;)
Minta Penman Lol sorry I keep commenting under your name.
Tip: Make sure you swallow while the tube is being inserted, or better yet ask for a glass of water with a straw. It’ll be a lot easier.
