As well as I recall this was part of the railway master plan developed by previous govt to rail all heavy duty cargo ex tema port via the lake to an inland port for onward carriage to landlocked countries to extent the life span of our roads which are currently bearing all the load and deteriorate in no time.We already dont maintain things well. Single rail is good for this stage to keep costs manageable, the idea is to complete these single rail tracks so resources can be transported efficiently to where they can be processed.Once that generates it's own revenue, then 2nd tracks can be build.2nd tracks are actually easier than first.So be patient, the idea will help balance books and take pressure off the spiralling dept.

We've built bridges that allow only single lines with no space for future expansion. So in future when we want to double the lines are we going to build new bridges? Nigeria is building doube lines, standard gauge lines from Lagos all the way to Kano. The Lagos to Ibadan sections are done and theyre double lines standard gauge. We should stop doing things small small as if we're poor people with no ambition. Other nations are doing mega stuff

When will Ghana move up its development? We are engulfed by the "poormans syndrome". Which is- we allow price tags of projects to force us to shy away from projects that can provide us current and futuristic values. As a country we have not been able to build a stretch of 650 miles of dual carriage road in 64 years. Ghanaian political leaders and economic planners are timid with respect to infrastructure. In this day and age, we are still constructing single railway tracks. Cost is the prefered reason readily offered for such decisions. The planners forget that cost will continue to creep up. And no country has ever been put on the auction block because it can't pay its lenders. So please have guts and look into the future and build infrastructure that can sustain future generations, After all, the coming generations will pay the bills. It is cheaper to incur the costs now.
