I just love how passionate you are about Czech Republic. It's true most of czechs doesn't like spicy food. But I love things like chilli, wasabi, carri etc. But socks in sandels bruh...You're review of Czech Republic is so sweet and kind. Glad someone understands we're not Czechoslovakia anymore.
Love your honest opinion about the city and country that has left a deep enthusiastic impression. I feel the same way during and after a visit and try to learn or do something new. The public transport is how it should be, note to UK transport bosses. Alas motorways were and still can be a challenge, although have improved over 30 years ;-). Keep up the good work it is appreciated by this Czechophile :-)
I don't understand that thing about socks in sandals. I don't know why people criticize it. I myself don't wear sandals, but if I did I would certainly wear it in the Czech manner in order not to get blisters on my feet.
I love this video. You're very discreet and tactful. Your perspective was much appreciated. By the way, Jožin is a great name for a pet... all the best to you!
I remember watching your videos a year and a half ago when i was thinking of moving here. I'm still here and wouldn't leave if you paid me! I'm trying to keep it a secret though how good life is here in case the whole place gets flooded with people fleeing the UK!
@@paulcolto I'm definitely planning a holiday over there (it's somewhere I've always wanted to visit), and seeing as the UK is going to hell in a handbasket we may just end up staying!
It is a nice summary, however D1 motorway is indeed finished, you were talking about the neverending reconstruction. :) Anyway, say hello to Jozin. :))
I think, that Czechs understand as spicy something different than other nations. For others the spicy means hot or burning, but many Czechs means spicy as variability of tastes. Like for others the food can be tasteless but spicy means for them that it burns their mouth. But for many Czechs (as like for me) spicy means the kind of specific taste of food because not all spice is about to be hot.
From my experience, everyone working at the post office is very grumpy and surly. They are overworked and underpaid. Try to make a joke, complimet some accesorry of their's or generally sympathise with them so you can complain about your shitty day together. They appreciate those small gestures and will smile right back at you. Greetings from Brno ^^
Great video, but you forget, that you are in Czech republic and czechs are don´t care if offend someone. It´s our nature and we use the sense of humour to it. Don´t be affraid to offend someone by your opinion. We are still, allmost all, normal and different opinion is not the problem for us.
That's why Czechs are probably the most banned nation on Facebook, because today censoreship ruled by algoritms and robots is directly focused against dark humor. Can I even still say dark humor? I know about person who was banned because he wrote name of Prague part Černý Most (black bridge), today time is terrible, you have to be carefull like before 1989 on facebook and other social networks and it's even worse when robot can ban you for anything. :-D
Czechs are peaceful nation and prefer diplomatic solutions. In almost all of our history, we have not agressively conquered or occupied other nations. By the way, our passport is one of the best im the world (in top 10) - we can travel to 183 countries without obstacles. (GB and US to 185).
Hello! I wanted to ask you how easy or hard is it to get a room in a flat with a dog? I am moving from the US to teach this year and bringing my 40lb border collie mix with me. Cheers!
By my opinion its like 30% dont wanna animals in their apartment and 70 does.. even by law they cant prohibit animals but u dont want landlord hate you or he Will chose someone else. Be patient I think it wont be hard to find :D
It is more of a political dividing. Geographiclly it's not true. This comes from the time of the cold war. Communists (East) x Democrats (West). Czechs don't like been called Eastern Europe coz it feels like you are calling them communists. Hope it helped to understand. Take care.
I've lived in Bratislava for many years and planning on moving to Prague soon. I know Slovaks and Czechs are very similar in many ways, but the Slovaks like to make fun of the Czechs eg socks and sandals, and the Czechs' thriftiness. I am interested to find out what the Czechs think of the Slovaks (perhaps less sophisticated? :))
Very good Paul. I once heard czechs are very good in inventing gadgets and improvements. We know how to bend rules, despite of asians who are completely oposits us.
I did know but it's great to be reminded! Have you seen the video on UA-cam of Metallica playing it when they were in Prague? Thank you so much for your comment :)
the "atheism" think...its complicated...on one hand people wont say they are part of a church but % of people beliveing in divination, astrology, some sort of "karmic" law etc. is quite comparable to the surrounding countries...the anticlericalism has more to do (imho) with the church finding itself at odds with primary identity of nationalism and less with particular absence of "religious" ways of thinking
Please realize that atheist is a human who believes NO GOD EXISTS. I would not dare to say we Czechs are mostly atheists, as you can also believe in God, but this is your private thing and you need not go to some church with it. Also please read something from our older history.
Atheism is not believe that god doesn't exist, atheist doesn't care about god at all, question "Is there god?" is nonsense for atheist, atheist doesn't think about such things, it's not believe, it's vice versa.
I LOVE the fried cheese by the way 🤤
and have the highest index of honesty, greetings Paul and have a merry Christmas!

What's the big deal about being (or not being) in Eastern Europe?

Easy answer Czech women are pretty, smart and hot...😄
should i completely avoid discusing politics, if i stay there for a longer time, say 20 weeks?
You don't have to avoid this topic, but be aware that the talk coud become very very long. (-: But I don't think it is that bad.
We are very expresive about politic just be careful with that topic 🤣

The contact lens and the sugar cube are two of the most famous Czech inventions, right? Thanks very much for your comment :)
